trying to keep the same expression without making the character look retarded was very difficult.
the line weight is way off because i used a mouse and i just gave up when i was fully confident that it was sufficiently better than the original.
i made some stylistic changes because i couldn't get the original hairstyle to look right. i also kind of assumed that the character was supposed to be black, albeit very poorly portrayed because of tearzah's sameface syndrome. so i just kind of went with that.
Yeah, the original doesn't seem to be black at all (straight brown hair, med-light skin tone, anime features). You should focus on improving your art to the point where your stuff is at least as good as the art your redrawing, if not better, but that's just my opinion. Your art seems more tumblr than her art is in this case.

are you familiar with tearzah's art or how she draws black people in general? she draws her black characters with straight or only slightly curly hair. also, mixed race black people with lighter skin tones exist.
even if the original character isn't meant to be black, there's a clear attempt at ethnic features with the derp ass lips. tearzah is notorious for being unable to draw lips without them looking like massive puffy assholes, especially on her peeohcee characters.
and most confusing of all: how is it more tumblresque? it actually looks like a black person without looking like a racist caricature. obviously the line weight is off and all of the effort went into fixing the face rather than the shoulders and shirt. but there's no vitiligo, no bright red nose, no disabilities or shoehorned pride flags, no obesity, and technically not racebending since the original character's race is....ambiguously brown. i really do want to know where you got that from.

I have two re-draws, one older I never got around to post and one new.
This one has been done few times here and every one removed the dripping hat and cape. While looking awful in the original, I though it was a fun idea for a sea themed magic user so I gave it a go. Since my aim was mostly to make that part work and her clothes remained me of swim wear so I went to draw a pin up water witch in a bikini. I made her more rationally hot to go with pin up look but tried to keep some of the original in there. So she has big nose and booty. I tried to keep the clothing similar just tweaking details and make fit to the new body type but end up changing quite a lot. I left out all the see trough fabric because don't wear see trough stuff on a beach, you just wear very little clothes. I also wanted to emphasize that she is a water witch, a fantasy character, so I left out most the more modern and emo aspects witch I found mostly ugly anyway. I used same effect on her sea shells and wand, witch both looked cool in the original but I saw no reason why they were not more uniform. The boots were one of my favorite bits in the original but since I was giving her so different body type so I gave her high heels with similar bits instead. Probably should have gone with bare feet or sandals but I tried to keep it at least in the same ball park as the original. Ended up not doing the cape, I just could really make it fit with the bikini look I wanted. By time the line art was ready, I was kinda done so I just slapped on flat colors that I found more pleasing and vibrant.
This one just caused me so much bafflement that I just wanted to make something less ugly and a lot more sane. I of course left out the unnecessary body hair and scars. I gave her hourglass figure with emphasis on the wide hips and while I did lighten her up a bit it was because I wanted black areas and details to get more attention and I wanted use flat colors. Flat colors were because I liked how white of the shirt blended with the background so I though I could do something fun with flats and that. Original does have a shading but its half assed anyway and this is re-draw for kiwi farms, can't really show off the picture anywhere else afterwards so I don't really wanna put extra time.
My center theme for this picture was the "red lips wide hips". Picture is mostly symmetrical but has clear asymmetry to point out hips and lips. I moved the slogan from belly to shirt because it just seemed to me like a sentiment you would want put on fabric rather than on skin. I made shirt quite different in general. she is not lifting it, its riding up because she has wide hips. I think the red areas in the ordinal were some sort of shadow thing but I just made them part of her shirt. I changed her panties from uncomfortably high pulled tai type to hipsters, 'couse hips. Also I added some hearts to panties to again to bring more attention to the hips. I drew her eyes closed and made her face a side profile rather than 3/4 to emphasize the red lips. I was originally going with similar harsh colors as the original but after trying out few compos I went with more warm and pink one. I just liked the mood better and it fit to slogan.
saw this on the SJW art thread and had to fix it. i forgot what the phone looked like halfway through lol
i had no fucking idea what was in the cup so i just put some coffee or something.
ive been lurking this thread for a while and i thought i'd take a crack at this.
attempted to edit one of rcdart's steve drawings while keeping the shitty art style. i gave up because i had no clue what to do with the fucking noodle arms
Obligatory on mobile, have some tism. Apologies for my anatomy. Tearzah’s thankfully the laughingstock of the farms.
(Got bored real quick and I got some work to finish anyway. Also tried translating Ash Kinoshithouse’s proportions into a “body”.)

sheesh, tear really fucked up on this one. your attempt is honestly great but it just shows how fucked this character's proportions really are and don't all of tear's characters have this body type? i've only seen "string bean" and the fucking liberty bell from her

For the most part it's actually just Ash. Until recently Ash's male twin Elliot also had these disgusting proportions,
(and she changed him, apparently, according to her, "because of sexualization". Yes. We were expected to believe she had entirely pure intentions designing this character.) but other than those two it's all String Beans with the exception of their dad, the Token Fat Wakana and some transboii vampire, all of whom have pencil necks. Any other thiccs are just commissions.
It seems to me what happened with these characters was one of those autistic deviantart self-insert beam-struggles where insecure artists continually redesign their personas/main characters in a childish competition with their artistic rivals over something that their characters get attention for. How feminine, how abused, how short, how big/long their hair is, how big their assets are. Those are all extremely common examples and Tearzah hit every one, to the point that at one point Ash was canonically as short as 3'5". Over time Tearzah's desperate attention seeking mutated these two into absolute monstrosities.
Anyways. Sperging aside we do have a thread for this if you'd like to come join the fun.

The lips. Btw, white's with darker shade of skin tone exist too, but you should really understand by now what facial features, bones in general tell about somebody
I kept some things from the outfit in and despite not really liking momo i feel bad for the "redesigns" she's gotten. The only redesign I actually like was one for ochako and that was just a outfit redesign to make her hero outfit more space-ish themed
Anyway sorry for the shit quality of my art the pen i used for the lineart decided it was gonna be shitty

damn, this was informative lol
shame she can only draw about three bodytypes, and she's clearly never seen a male before i actually noodle around in that thread quite a bit lol, everyone's edits are so great!
