Anytime I see that, all I can think of is the REAL story of what happened, as shown in this episode of Troops.

Ah, back when fan flims meant nth gen VHS tapes and nobody looked for a handout via kickstarter or whatever shit.Anytime I see that, all I can think of is the REAL story of what happened, as shown in this episode of Troops.
I'll add daddy issues to the list.Seriously, what the fuck is their problem with Han?
Sometimes I think this whole nightmare has just been the universe's way of punishing me for posting this about the old star wars EU in a long forgotten thread almost exactly six years ago...

I love how literally fucking EVERYTHING i brought up as a condemnation of the old EU has been repeated a thousand times worse in Nu-Star Wars and the Nu-EU....like literally fucking everything I sneered about, all the writing shit, the mary sue shit, the rehash shit....goddamn it even my line of "any new writer will be bound by the eternal list of their predecessors narrative fuckups".....fucking christ...
All of my predictions as to the bright future of the franchise turned to fucking ash and misery, with only my claim of the Holiday Special being better than anything after Return of the Jedi still ironically holding true in the worst way possible. Hell even fucking rifftrax turned to absolute shit once they jumped on the usual REEEE bandwagons come 2014 so that reference aged like milk left out on a pripyat windowsill.
If you niggers take away one lesson....let it be this...
Be really fucking careful what you wish for

I'm one of them. I assumed that they could do a basic, workmanlike cash-in- little of Lucas's virtues, but little of his flaws, either. They had this entire extra canon of work that had already been market tested, and they could just pick over it, grab the stuff they liked, and grind and sand it into something that was... fine. Not Shakespeare, but Star Wars never was.I know several people who were massivelywhen Disney bought Star Wars who probably want to go back and throttle themselves for being delusional and naive.
It feels downright unreal to me how badly Disney has fucked Star Wars up, In The Mouth of Madness is the perfect metaphor.
I never in a million years would have thought it would go this poorly as to make the Prequels seem desirable in comparison, I mean that would have sounded like a cruel joke: "Imagine if the sequels wind up even worse than the prequels! Heh, no way THAT could ever happen!"

How the hell do you predict something like this? It's like predicting a pro basketball player will go for the layup, miss, and somehow catch his underwear elastic on the rim thereby get pantsed on national television.
"It won't be as bad as the prequels, Disney has this in the bag." - Every Star Wars fan everI know several people who were massivelywhen Disney bought Star Wars who probably want to go back and throttle themselves for being delusional and naive.
That's what a lot of us thought too. That, and they were going to do to Star Wars what they did to Marvel comics--make a lot of simple, kind of bland, yet still effective movies, since Disney promised a Star Wars movie every year until "whenever". TFA was basically this, even if a lot of people slammed it for blatant plagiarism and how awful the last third of the movie was--people were still giving it a benefit of a doubt since it introduced a bunch of new shit and looked like it would set up something cool plus had TR-8R. And Rogue One was the sort of Star Wars movie we all expected Disney to make--functional and workmanlike, kind of empty, but fan-pleasing.I assumed that they could do a basic, workmanlike cash-in- little of Lucas's virtues, but little of his flaws, either.
Oh, to go back to those more innocent days before TLJ fucked the franchise in the ass and lifted the blinders from our eyes.
"Before the dark times. Before Rian Johnson..."
still enjoyed solo tho. but have no hope for IX.

Are we all from the same timeline in here? Because I recall people being furious about Disney buying out Star Wars.
But I only remember this because I felt like I was the only one who was fairly indifferent about it at the time. Almost everyone I talked to, everywhere I saw online when the buyout happened, other Star Wars fans were lamenting over the fact that Disney had done this, fearing the worst for the franchise. Years later, I went in to The Force Awakens in 2015 with no expectations. I figured hey, everyone seemed to be upset about this buyout but you know, let's give Disney a chance and see what they can do with it. Roughly two hours later, for the first time in my entire life, I exited a theater actually fuming and angry at a movie for wasting my fucking time. All of these fans I had seen pissing and moaning about Disney in 2012 were suddenly singing their praises and rejoicing about how wonderful this objectively shitty excuse for a film was, and this fucking garbage pile took the undeserved spot of highest grossing movie ever.
I would explain to my friends and family, logically and factually, why this movie didn't make any sense. Why it was a complete unoriginal rehash and why Rey was and still is the worst character I have ever seen in any high budget entertainment production of any kind. They would listen and they would acknowledge my arguments with understanding but they would naively hold on to their opinions and insist that this cinematic abortion was still the best movie they had ever seen. I could not get through to anybody about this.
And then The Last Jedi came out. And it wasn't a wake up call for me. It was merely my "I told you so" to everybody else.
I have noticed over the years following the release of TLJ, an increase in people claiming optimism after the Disney-Lucasfilm buyout. I wonder if they are telling the truth or not, because I only remember people being upset about it before immediately about-facing after the TFA nostalgia wankfest of 2015.

I do wonder why Disney would take a franchise that seemed vibrant enough at the time of acquisition and run it into the ground with bad decision-making so much so that many of the fans that stayed loyal to the franchise since ANH came out in the 70s now feel disillusioned and alienated by what's happening now. The fact they're being harassed and branded at haters or worse on social media certainly does nothing to persuade them to stay interested in a franchise that currently treats them and the characters they grew up with as little more than obsolete parts that need to be replaced and discarded. That's the biggest disappointment; SW could have easily continued to appeal to multiple generations of fans with the right decisions and content. Instead, the older loyal fans have been pushed away like they're neither wanted nor needed while their favorite characters get treated in a similar, persona non grata kind of way.
