UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It’s not even the usual carbon tax thing, which is unpopular enough, it’s more ‘We need to abandon capitalism and live pre-industrial lifestyles’. (It’s the same with the likes of Greta, during her speech at the UN she said “There will not be any solutions or plans presented in line with these figures here today, because these numbers are too uncomfortable and you are still not mature enough to tell it like it is.”)

Lots and lots of Africans, Indians, Asians, and other non-wealthy, non-white people will have to die for their idea of utopia.

Apparently the amount of hot air and methane they produced were enough for the government to step in and order them to stop.

But hey, we have some good news:
I'm hoping those people who paid £1,000,000 for a shitty 1-bed flat get their shit flooded and realise what a stupid choice they made when they bought such an overpriced place.

The main problem with Extinction Rebellion (Aside from the virtue signalling protesters annoying everyone who wants to get on with their day) is their actual plans are so radical they rarely bring them up, maybe it’s because they know they’re so laughably unrealistic and alienating.

And then with interviews with the original members it turns into a social justice checklist with him blaming colonialism, the patriarchy, heteronormativity, white supremacy, etc.
Someone needs to show these people a history book to see how bad the other races can be. We can even call it, "Harry Potter and the Not-So-Perfect Pocs" to get them to read it.

History was a nasty time and some people won and some people lost. I don't feel the slightest trace of guilt that my ancestors were on the winning side. Should have tried having better ancestors.

Once again apparently minorities are too stupid to get ID's even if they are offered for free according to Corbyn.
I'd agree with Corbyn if it wasn't for the free ID part, also they could just apply for a postal vote which assumedly still won't need any kind of ID other than a signature, although there's a lot of controversy about postal vote fraud as it is.

Maybe it's to do with Labour's idea of allowing EU nationals to vote in a future Brexit referendum?

Did anyone even bother listening to the Queen's speech. I assume not since nobody's discussing it.

Pretty much shit or nonspecific all around except for potential laws involving criminal foreign nantionals and the fact that employees are entitled to their tips.

She mentioned new laws on divorce (Almost certainly shit for the father), new "Protections for police" (ACAB. If you have read any police diaries released in the last 20 years you wil know that police are not autonomous humans by design and follow the orders of the cunts upstairs to a t.), environment bill (eat the bugs goyim) and that stupid "duty of care internet" bill that the daily telegraph fucking loves (UK govt has an enshrined right to sue websites for whatever with no recourse as long as an "Impartial" "Separate" entity to be set up says they can).

Also WTF do they expect to do to the mental health act? They can't afford anything good and re-opening the asylums would be a fucking travesty. Or maybe it's just more hot air.

Based on the speech I assume that May's porn law thing is gone because Isn't the speech about setting what the government wants to do for the year?

I’ve voted to many times to count and have never been asked for ID. All you need to do is tell them your name and address.

That was in reference to Boris’s announced plan that‘d require a photographic ID in the future -

I was listening to the SNP conference where they went even further announcing that too many women are made homeless when they announce they’ve been abused so instead police will force SUSPECTED abusers out of their home without even the need of any court action on behalf of the accuser and that also includes psychological abuse -

Maybe? I think it's still in development hell.
It's either been replaced by or is integrated into the internet "duty of care" laws.

It's worth noting that the Scottish goverment's definition of "Psychological Abuse" is so wide and openly rigged it includes asking your girlfriend not to fuck other men. I am dead serious when I say that, look it up.

Porn blocker is dead:

UK's controversial 'porn blocker' plan dropped

The government has dropped a plan to use strict age verification checks to stop under-18s viewing porn online.
It said the policy, which was initially set to launch in April 2018, would "not be commencing" after repeated delays, and fears it would not work.
The so-called porn blocker would have forced commercial porn providers to verify users' ages, or face a UK ban.
Digital Secretary Nicky Morgan said other measures would be deployed to achieve the same objectives.
The government first mooted the idea of a porn blocker in 2015, with the aim of stopping youngsters "stumbling across" inappropriate content.
Pornographic sites which failed to check the age of UK visitors would have faced being blocked by internet service providers.
But critics warned that many under-18s would have found it relatively easy to bypass the restriction, or could simply turn to porn-hosting platforms not covered by the law.
For example, platforms which host pornography on a non-commercial basis - meaning they do not charge a fee or make money from adverts - would not have been affected.
In a written statement issued on Wednesday, Ms Morgan said the government would not be "commencing Part 3 of the Digital Economy Act 2017 concerning age verification for online pornography".
Instead, she said, porn providers would be expected to meet a new "duty of care" to improve online safety. This will be policed by a new online regulator "with strong enforcement powers to deal with non-compliance".
"This course of action will give the regulator discretion on the most effective means for companies to meet their duty of care," she added.
In June, the porn blocker was delayed a second time after the government failed to tell European regulators about the plan, leading Labour to describe the policy as an "utter shambles".
