Coming into this thread pretty late but I was lurking when @Nayolfa was posting here. Dunno if he's still here or not but I guess I'll note him this on dA. Hope it's not too off-topic.

Anyways, hey, I'm a sophomore animation student at an art college. I won't get into that, but I have a good idea on how the animation industry works and I'm in the process of getting my portfolio approved for internships. @Nayolfa, if you any questions, please feel free to ask.

I encourage you (and MrEnter) to sit down and think about what you're doing and take a break from Growing Around. Take a day or a week off, even a month if you can. Work on other projects, practice storyboarding and animating, and watch some cartoons for inspiration. When you return back to your Growing Around, read some of the critique and feedback you got back on this project (that's not nice comments from deviantArt). Really think about the comments you received and focus on ways you can improve.

It's okay if your project bad and not everyone loves it. It's okay to scrap months of hardwork and to start over. The actual learning process is figuring out what does and doesn't work, not building on top of a bad foundation and hoping for the best.

With that being said, I honestly can't see Growing Around getting picked up by anyone. It's very stale, it doesn't stand out, and it doesn't take any chances. The biggest problem with this series is that you have no idea how the world works. You don't. And the world that the characters are living in is important. You have a different explanation every time when someone questions the lore and that's a giant red flag. All of this stuff should be worked out before you even start typing your script.

Actually, I'll be honest here. I'm more interested in watching a cartoon about how the world of Growing Around came to be than watching the Disney sitcom set-up you have now. There's an idea in there somewhere but you guys are refusing to explore it. You're playing it too safe. I can actually imagine Growing Around being a kid-friendly Lord of the Flies, haha. I don't think I've ever seen that on a major network before.

And there are plenty of resources available if you need help with pitching a cartoon. Animation Development: From Pitch to Production and Makin' Toons: Inside the Most Popular Animated TV Shows and Movies are two books that I recommend. Also, Chris Oatley has a good blog post about creating a pitch bible.

That's a very thoughtful post you wrote and I highly agree. This is exactly what Enter and Nayolfa should do if they ever want this to have a remote chance of being a success though I'm not so sure certain networks would still hire him due to his track record of trashing networks in his videos.

"Yeah, I've decided that I'm not gonna go through with it. Back when I first made that poll, it was because of a Spur of the Moment anger that built up inside me after I saw a few harsh comments on someone's journal entry (directed towards Mr Enter rather than the guy who posted the journal)."

Me: Well, I wouldn't be surprised considering you'll do anything to defend your god from any negative talk.

"I was ready to post a full on rant consisting of a list of all the invalid arguments I've seen for hating the guy and a reason why each one wouldn't hold up in hopes that I could get through at the very least ONE of them, But then a particularly interesting with one of his haters last night told me everything I needed to know:"

Me: Well, YOU'RE the moron who decided to post "TOUGH" when that guy asked why his arguments were invalid. YOU'RE the one with the invalid arguments. Back them up! You're not gonna get through anyone with that kind of smug attitude.

"These Guys are just not worth it."

Me: No shit.

"They're not worth it because they refuse to listen. I don't really need to say anymore than that... Besides, if I do, then this will become a rant, and I'll end up unintentionally playing into their trap, so I'm gonna stop right here."

Me: As I've demonstrated earlier, YOU'VE refused to listen. I'll give you credit you're holding yourself back right now. However, you already set yourself into the trap by acting moronic, and have now became a Mini-Lolcow. Clearly the only reason you're doing this is to say "MrEnter is right, you're wrong, I have no reasons", and yeah. Honestly I don't know how people are gonna take you seriously.

That concludes my mini-commentary. Hope you enjoyed.

Thanks!

And YEAH, I forgot to mention that. MrEnter already burned so many bridges (especially when he trash talked Casey Alexander and got his fans to attack the poor guy). It's not worth your reputation to work with someone like MrEnter. Casey Alexander currently works at CN...the same network that MrEnter wants to pitch his cartoon on. Like...c'mon now. Really.

Also, a lot of people who work in the animation industry jump studios a lot. A guy that graduated from my school worked for Disney, CN, and Nick. He's currently working on Harvey Beaks and he just got finished with the second season for Gravity Falls. It's not likely that you'll be stationed in one studio forever, but there are some people who are (Andrew Chesworth has been at Disney since he was hired).

Thanks!

I'll give him credit that at least he told people to stop flaming Casey Alexander. But yeah, pretty much everything you said is true.

Also, if Enter and Kyle are considering attending college (this basically goes for everyone)- Big name colleges like CalArts aren't the only path to success, you can go to pretty much your local college.

You guys heard of clay claymore? He has a YouTube. Page and basically points out crazy youtubers like some weirdo named 03good and enter.

He's pretty entertaining.

Yup.
Thanks!

Chris Houghton? (sorry, big GF fan here) But yeah, most animators start out on other projects and jump ships from multiple studios. It's OKAY to not start out on your own show.

John Kricfalusi had about 10 years of experience before he started work on Ren and Stimpy; David Feiss had about 17; Genndy Tartakovsky storyboarded for 2 Stupid Dogs...

All the greats in the cartoon industry generally worked on other people's shows before they got their own.

Good that he did but still, lol. If I was Casey Alexander, I'll still remember MrEnter as that guy who got all of his fans to attack him. That's not a very good impression you want to make when you want to get into the animation industry. It's already so small and there's thousands of people who are more respectful than MrEnter that can be hired. I don't really think Kyle or MrEnter understand how this industry works. It's less about your portfolio and more about who you know.

Also I need to read over my posts for typos and mistakes more ffffff. Meant Casey Alexander not Anthony, OOOPS.

Yeah pretty much. I worry for his mental health sometimes, getting into breakdowns. I hate to say this but if you get that worked up over a cartoon Enter, you should seek SERIOUS HELP IMMEDIATELY. Something tells me he isn't good in society if he does that stuff.

I've met people who've worked in animation and I was nothing BUT respectful to them. They were really great guys, admittedly, but you have to respect these guys. Everybody in animation knows everybody else.

YES!! That's him, lol. I didn't want to namedrop him because it would give away which college I'm going to. Know you probably know what school I go to, haha. But yeah, Chris Houghton worked on several other projects before he got into animation. He also has a cool comic called Reed Gunther and he told us a story about how Frankie Jonas bought one of his comics lmao. IIRC, Chris also said that Reed Gunther opened a lot of doors for him. He was able to work on MAD Kids and Boom! because of his comic and that's how he was able to get jobs from big animation studios.

AUTISTIC MAN PLANS MASSACRE OVER MY LITTLE PONY ANIMATED SERIES

Autistic 21-year old man Johnathan Rozanske, better known as polarizing animation reviewer "TheMysteriousMrEnter" has been charged with conspiracy and attempted murder after an episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic portrayed the character Fluttershy yelling at Applejack. He attempted to run into the animation studio behind the series and stab the animators working there. Luckily, security easily caught him. Here is an exclusive interview with him in his cell- "B-but, it's an ANIMATED ATROCITY! FLUTTERSHY WAS BEING A JERK!!! THE WRITERS OF THE EPISODE HAVE MENTAL DISORDERS!!!" There is now a large crowd protesting by his cell. And as a matter of fact, his Encyclopedia Dramatica page has encountered large traffic over the past few hours.
