The Chiari trend is something I’ve been following loosely for personal reasons, and the uptick in surgeries the last 3-5 years is horrifying. No one really knows how common Chiari actually is bc it’s so often found incidentally while testing for other issues. It used to considered something you’re born with and now some docs are saying it can be acquired ie from head trauma (don’t know enough to speak on accuracy of that). The support groups are just as bad if not worse than chronic Lyme- the money that is being shelled out to see a couple doctors in the United States is mindblowing.
I don't think the munchies who self prescribe the cervical braces from Amazon help themselves at all. Bracing without an actual need can lead to muscle wasting and atrophy.
It seems like very few people have successful chiari surgery that I have seen. It's almost like the surgery is the equivalent of opening pandoras box. Especially if they use one of the hotshot surgeons who don't accept insurance.
