Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Here's a little communal activity all us Kiwis can do together; log onto the site of your local kinoplex and show us how 'sold out' screenings of TROS are. You'll either notice low sales, or oddly sold out theatres.

I'm not English but currently based just outside of the Islamic Caliphate of Londonistan for work, and this is how my 'local' theatre is looking - both in terms of midnight showings, evening showings, and a lone lunchtime showing

They told us the presales broke records
They told us Star Wars movies were front-heavy
They told us screenings would sell out unless you booked well in advance

Here is the r/boxoffice thread on the presales. Almost everyone are calling BS on the spins , which is rare because this community hypes everything that can potentially make money
Huh... I'm genuinely surprised. I'm honestly seeing a lot more indifference or hate for IX than I thought I would. And the few defenses showing on there or other sites are hardly as passionate or as well structured as they were before the trailer, with most just going "Fuck TLJ haters" or "Yeah but like the Ewoks and Dark Empire were awful so we shouldn't criticize this". Like what kind of arguments are these? Using buzzwords and "X is bad and therefore we shouldn't say Y is bad" are the worst counters you can use.

I also continue to be surprised by how many leaks and photos from the film are suddenly being posted ever since the trailer came out.

Are Lucasfilm employees doing this now as some sort of half-assed attempt at generating hype or were they too afraid to post leaks due to some contractual consequences that would no longer be valid after the trailer's release? At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if we have pics from every scene in the movie by November.

A slow house cleaning is happening...IMO...so people on the outside of the change are leaking

Sadly I don't see them ever retconning Carrie Fishers last performance, and Mark and Harrison aren't getting younger either.

They will probably go into "old republic era" for a new fresh trilogy because there is nowhere else to go. Even then the Jedi are cheapened forever by Rian Johnsons lack of imagination. Remember how grand and majestic those ancient sith temples looked , we got a fucking Island off Ireland.

I'm probably going to watch it partly out of morbid curiosity about just much they're going to have to soft retcon Last Jedi but also because Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor is always a delight. Infinatly quotable, endlessly menacing and Deliciously evil. Watching him be a complete prick with the new generation is something I'm genuinly looking forward to.
Taking one for the team, good luck fellow Kiwi! I agree Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine/Sidious was the best thing George Lucas came up with in both the OT and PT. Because it allowed the viewer to believe Darth Vader was redeemable and not the sole bad guy. If there was no Emperor, I believe it would have been difficult for fans to believe Darth Vader was able to redeem himself and save Luke if not for having a more powerful and evil villain to help take down to finally defeat the empire.

It's unfortunate the sequel trilogy exists because it spits on Darth Vader's legacy and makes his sacrifice pointless.

When did I miss the meeting where it was decided that Dark Empire was shit?
I recall it was well received and was credited as being part of the Thrawn era releases that jump-started the franchise back to life.
It was HelloGreedo and other BuzzFeed cringelords who said things along the lines of Dark Empire being dumb and pointless. Most people used it as a reason for why the EU had to be deleted, which is ironic because now those comics are another thing being used as a basis for a shittier story in Soy Wars.

The question that needs to be answered, is it worth giving your money to Disney for 3 minutes of Ian Mcdiarmid going full UNLIMITED POWA?

I mean I might have sat through it for half an hour, 20 minutes at least. But 3? Naah kaffir I want my insane scottish scenery chewer to take up at least a third of the movie before I willingly get in line.
I imagine that Palpatine won't be satisfying to watch in this movie. He doesn't have Lucas writing his character or directing him.

If past performance is anything to go by Disney will completely squander their opportunity with the actor

Also its been confirmed in the same guide that the tribe of warriors that Finn's sister lives with are not Ewoks but her actual family she returned to and they're considered a "noble and proud people" possibly based on Africa. Since this is her homeworld, this will likely be Finn's homeworld as well and where he has the shitty family reunion moment some early leaks talked about. So this is lunar Africa that became shit and flooded because of the Galaxy's fault? So its donut steal Endor, Korun and Dac rolled up into one to boot?

To be fair, Dark Empire aint GOOD but I take it over ROS any day.

Overall the concept of bringing Palpatine back is very stupid and kind of despered but I know I will feel like apologizing to Dark Empire after witnessing the amount of butt fuckery that is ROS

Disney's master plan of designing characters not be endearing but to see how many instagram thots will dress up as them for free advertising seems to also be backfiring.

If Marlin Brando's last performance can be regulated to the special features section of a Blu-Ray because it could not be used, then nobody is safe.

I don't see that going over well at all.
Well if you hate it you are a Racist Homophobic Bigot

On a slightly different note, it just occurred to me that of the major stars in the OT, they had one who seemed enthusiastic and engaged, and they killed him off.

It really is kind of amazing that the story had everyone die except for the one played by someone who died.

And the one with the strongest connection to the Brand

I've been saying the same thing for a while IRL discussions. Now we get to either see repurposed, cut scenes from TFA and TLJ with Leia and Rey or Carrie Fisher's sister with Carrie's head creepily tacked on.
