Are they not supporting PCRF anymore?
If not, why not just distribute the fundraising across a range of reputable charities?
I assume they will be for the next Vinesauce is Hope event but the upcoming fundraiser is just for Variety is Hope. I think the idea is that they'll be doing more events than just Vinesauce is Hope each year with the different events being for different charities. Like what GDQ does.

To be honest I don't know that the community collectively is large enough to do that kind of things considering all of the non big-name streamers can barely hold a collective view count equal to a low viewer Joel stream. Charity for the sake of is great and all when its a good cause but vague answers like 'administrative costs' and 'growth' don't paint a good picture. If anything the intentional vagueness gives it an air of shadiness.

But maybe that's just me being a paranoid asshole.

Yeah GDQ head-dived into being awful, boring garbage with no humor that I cannot even stomach to watch.

As for Joel who already avoids mentioning things especially when they get political or 'uwu joel pls say trans pride' whenever it crops up, I have no doubt in my mind he would be ejected in the same way GeePM was or quietly asked to step down though I agree with the post above that he would not do it quietly and he would rightly call it out as bullshit.

Glancing over the VarietyisHOPE Twitter and there's nothing actually Vinesauce related regarding the event, similar logo and HOPE branding aside. That said, the clout from Vinesauce is definitely the main draw right now. I don't see HOPE having the ability to cancel Joel from Vinesauce or the PCRF stream, nor do I think that Vinny or Joel will go along with it if it gets divisive and threatens taking the main PCRF charity stream with it.

My bigger concern now is charity fatigue. Doing more than 2-3 per year will distract from each other and drag all of them down. People already don't understand why there's the heckraiser thing this month, and every fundraising drive just makes that worse.

If I wanted to give money to a charity I'd give money to a local one that would, at worst, go directly into my town's treasury. I really hope we aren't going to start getting fucking 10 charities a year, the charity streams are always snoozefests anyway.

Joel hates scheduling so maybe he'll just fucking finally quit the team lol. The constant "VINNY COLLAB" and "DUDE LATEST VINNY MEME" clearly get on his nerves already.

Realistically I don't either but since their main draw is the Vinesauce fan base I don't think it would be entirely impossible to rile them up against one of the streamers they wish to accuse of wrong think. Hell sometimes I think the fan base wouldn't be entirely opposed to the idea of getting rid of someone they perceive to be against them in terms of political leaning and in theory it wouldn't take a large organization to jump-start such a reaction if the accusation is made by someone the community trusts. But I don't think it would happen purely because it would be more trouble than it would be worth.

I will say I agree here and that they are not doing themselves any favors by being vague on what its for or why they need it now of all times. I don't think even the people blindly supporting it have any clue of what the reasons are other than "Well no matter what it has to be good, right?"

Does anyone watch streamers other than Joel, Vinny, and Rev? I honestly think they're just streaming to an empty crowd at this point.

In all seriousness, I tend to agree - Vinny is a funny guy, but I only stay engaged when I'm watching highlights. I love a long stream, but most of Vinny's are really dry until something really funny happens, and I get bored of the dry parts. Joel is at least low-level funny all the way through, and then spikes a few times throughout the stream.

I just finished watching his Dead Space 2 streams, he seemed to genuinely enjoy that one. I feel like my enjoyment of Vinny, who is one of the few streamers I actively watch - but mostly just for games I actually want to see him play - correlates directly with how much fun it seems like he's having. I felt the same with his DMC5 stream, if he's actually having a lot of fun and not caring much about what the godawful chat is telling him to do or yelling at him over, he's easily one of the most entertaining streams out there. When he plays other games that engender constant backseat gaming it's pretty difficult to really enjoy.

I don't watch Rev very much but Joel's the only other Vinesauce streamer I even bother looking into.

I think you severely overestimate the power the community has over the decisions of the group. Fred got publicly outed for sexually harassing teenage fans and he still works under the Vinesauce name. If "wrongthink" was going to take anyone down, he would've been the first - the fact that he's still there means that they aren't taking public opinion into account much, if at all.

Plus, Joel is the only other streamer who gets some serious views. Rev has a nice niche carved out for himself, but doesn't rake in many numbers. It would take a lot for them to cut Joel out, and if it did happen, it would be because Vinny and the other streamers thought it was necessary, not because some 14 yr old said it was a good idea.

Meanwhile at Joel, he has a bumper that advertises subscribing. Joel fucking loves money.

He came from some shit factory job that probably paid crap and ended up making money hand over fist just by being funny and lucky. He's not risking losing that for anything.

I probably am to be fair so you're not wrong. Though how many people remember or know that Fred did that anyway? I didn't even really know till I read this thread or know how long ago it was I'll admit.

As for Joel's position in the group, it would take a lot for them to get rid of him but crazier things have and will continue to happen. So I would not entirely rule it out but again, you're 100% correct in me overestimating. Sometimes I forget we're not in that kind of clown world yet.

The VarietyisHOPE website went live and has some more info: https://varietyishope.org/faq/

The heckraiser is to cover the costs they incurred registering as a 501(c)3 non-profit and to get established as an independent organization. I can accept this at face value absent any evidence to the contrary, although I don't plan on giving anything to this one. Not to mention that the 501(c)3 reporting requirements is how people know how scummy organizations like Feminist Frequency and the GDQ "cancer" organization are, so it helps keep them honest.

If nothing else, Rev dusted off SCP: Containment Breach for the event, which an old favorite series of mine. Look forward to that VOD this week.

Has that game been getting updated this whole time or is he just going back to it for funsies?

If memory serves, it got a pretty big update a few months ago. I saw a few streamers replaying it after years of not touching it recently, so maybe Rev was just sitting on it to save it for this charity event. That was one of the few Rev streams I found genuinely funny, so I'm looking forward to that myself.

And come to think of it the stuff Fred may or may not have done is like never talked about in SoJus blogs like the one I found at worst only says that Vinny solicited underaged nudes and not Fred and it was confirmed to be a 4chan rumor, and even on 4chan aside from bitching about "REEE no e celebs in /v/!" have more or less confirmed Fred's skeevy-ness.

I tuned in for a little of Vinny's "BINNY PLS BLAY DEE EMM CEE TOOO" stream and he sounded bored like he just wanted to get it done and over with so he was looking for stuff to laugh about.

I'm not sure if anyone's pointed this out, but it seems the reason Vinny and his friends are doing crossovers with other youtubers like Sheetz/Criken/Jerma is because they're all part of some creator network called Screenwave Media.

Not only that, but is appears Screenwave Media is a sponsor for the Too Many Games convention, which Vinny attends every year.

So the reason Vinny has been doing cross streams isn't because he wants to but has to because of screenwave? Kinda explains why Jerma and him aren't themselves when streaming with each other.
