If you really want to scare an obese person take them to a surgical unit, and show them any of the multiple toe or foot amps from diabetics they almost always have. Last week while I was on my local unit there was a man there couldn't have been out of his 40's, but his toe was literally rotting off his foot. It was black as tar, and my instructor told use it could just snap off at anytime. Despite the massive strain d
Someone should take these people to their local surgical units to see the multiple toe and foot amputations they inevitably always have because exceptional individuals refuse to do anything about their diabetes.
They should show them images of gangrenous feet, amputation and festering neuropathic diabetes wounds in health class in schools with a hard-hitting description of exactly what diabetes does to your blood vessels, organs and nerves. I think a lot of people still think Type 2 isn't that bad and don't realise it will shorten your life considerably especially if uncontrolled, which it seems to be in many cases as they refuse to take it seriously enough.
I've heard about people who have lost a shitload of weight, taken up daily exercise and totally cleaned up their dietary habits who basically put the disease into remission which shows it can be done, but it takes the kind of commitment and drive that a lot of people imply seem to lack that got them into this mess in the first place.
The comments to that piece .. argh, people going on about sugar in foods. Yes, it's in refined foods, packagaed foods for shelf life and for the taste fatties crave, just like trans fats. It's people's laziness in not cooking from scratch and expecting convenience foods to be actually convenient, shelf stable and hit their taste buds like a truck that has them consuming so much 'hidden' sugar. It's not the governments' fault people are lazy retards about cooking and exercise and having enough respect and pride in yourself that you don' let yourself go to the point you turn into a human beachball on legs. We're never going to solve this issue until people stop expecting someone else to do the hard work for them, whether it be food choices or getting active. Sugar taxes don't work, people who want to eat shite, eat shite, and just moan about the cost.
