Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

I know I dont talk much anymore, but given the craziness died down a little, what do you think the general opinion of Vic is in the con community? Obviously he still is racking in a lot of fans but do you think the majority still believe in the pedo claims and brush it off or have seen through most of the hogwash by now? Some of you guys are a lot closer to it and Twitter is a worthless pile to use for gauging since the majority is silent on it.

Convention officials: They probably know this is bullshit. They are just worried about getting blasted by bad PR.

The Public: Majority probably still think that Monica's story holds weight. (I'm basing this off the RWBY discord I'm on.) They would have accepted the apology but Monica's story pushed them over the edge.

I haven"t seen anyone really talk about it. Even my left leaning friends think MeToo is bullshit.

My expectation is that for most in the con community (can only really gauge a small slice) is that they don't give a shit. The people who care are waist deep in things and entrenched in whatever view. If you're not directly in the ISWV or KV camps then you really don't care. For con staff, most don't REALLY care either, but given all the choices will probably choose to not invite Vic because that choice will definitely dump them into the fight. Monica and Jamie are the named defendants, so we'll have to see how their results are impacted, but you get less blowback inviting them (showing the difference between ISWV and KV imo) and anyone else just is whatever they are.

tldr: if you're not rolling around in the mud already, then you don't give a shit.

The majority of the public probably isn't aware of what's going on.
It's important to remember than the "con community" is just a small fraction of the "anime community", and that, amongst said "con community", most people are simply people who pay their pass, enjoy the event, and then go back to their day to day life, not caring the slightest about people like the VAs or the cosplayers once they're home.

When KVers keep saying that Vic's reputation was well known in the "community", they're actually merely talking about a handful of gossiping people.
They're projecting when they act as if they were the whole anime community or even the whole con community.

I pity chuck. I really do. Its pretty clear he wants this to end, but he has no way to end it himself. He cant convince either party to stop at this stage, and KV has no reason to back down.

His only hope is that he can shame ISWV into backing down since they are the only "vulnerable" group. He figures, probably correctly too, that if Vic's fans make a concerted effort to ask vic to drop the suit, he might drop it. The problem is that he's fence sitting on the core issue. (Said issue being if the Vic accusations are true.) He obvious doesnt want to burn any bridges by outright admiting his doubt of the claims, but likewise is trying real hard the shift the discussion away from that topic.

A pitiful man stuck in a wholy avoidable situation. What a shame.
I don't pity the pansy at all.

He laughably fancies himself as a Lawful Good, straight-shooting Boy Scout, but in fact he's insidious, passive-aggressive asshole, a self-aggrandizing liar.

I'm actually at a loss for words.
Even I can't fathom the idiocy of this legendarily bad sped logic.

This is what happens when you are so lonely the only person you think you have a chance with is a fat chick married to a wife beater. I actually feel pity for them. I can only imagine how sad one's life would have to be to go to such lengths. May God have mercy on their soul.

I don’t think the majority really buy it considering Vic gets great numbers at all the cons he’s gone to so far. The small cons while small have gotten way better business in the past just by inviting him. Also YouTube has been the one platform that KV fails with every time.

I think you sort of summed it up very well. Smaller cons(and lesser known ones) dont have as much to lose and are probably not as influenced by funimation as the bigger ones, so vic will probably be attending more of those in the future.

Nick has a short video coming up soon tonight regarding the hearing.

That actually is a good point I didn't think about. Small cons will keep appearing for eternity which leaves endless opportunities for Vic even if many of the big ones shut him down. Could take an interesting turn in the con community. Wouldn't be just because of Vic but we could see the flow of fans go elsewhere if more big and popular names pop up in these lesser known cons. It would be slow but is something to think about.

Is Chaotic Insane a thing?
That what I was thinking. I dont think chucks actions are good, neutral, or evil. They are simply reactionary and spineless in nature. By the end of it all, I fully expect him to be using his family as a shield as to why he is acting the way he is to throw vic(or at least those around him) under the bus.
