Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

Just to check in with you guys, Something Awful users calling themselves "goons"...that was always a Nazi joke, right? SA "goons", geddit? And the current crop of stupidly far-left users still call themselves that, right? Am I the only one to catch the irony, or am I just ridiculously late to the party?

I'm not sure if that was intentional or not TBH. I think the whole "goon" thing started because other people called them that early on when they showed up trolling shit if I remember right.

Goons also refers to low-level Mafia thugs.

Its a general term for "lackey", but with a bent towards 'Big, dumb, violent'.

Surprised they haven't gone full pussy and implemented shadow Bans.

They have them, but in true SA fashion they aren't used because they don't work correctly. If they actually worked, mods would probably hit that shit all the time.

People figured out pretty quick that if you pay attention to the repeating pattern of posts (they are colored differently to make reading easier, alternating between gray and white) that if the pattern gets offset (two white or gray posts in a row) then someone is hell banned. It was very easy for people to figure out and SA being SA, never bothered to fix it. They also, save for a few forums, didn't prevent the user from checking their posting while not logged in.

It's really weird that they took time to impliment a feature but didn't take time to ever fix it, but that's SA for you.

Yeah, Hellbanning was abandoned because it cooked the database. There was another outage caused by one user having so many others on ignore that it broke the SQL tables and the database couldn't work out what posts to serve to who and crashed. That was probably the most SA thing that has ever happened.

But I'm sure that migrating SA's codebase to Xenforo will be easy peasy.

Lowtax did it, it’s why Voidburger and TieTuesday supposedly left the forums.

Lowtax perm'd VoidBurger for accusing him of being a child abuser because he had his daughter make fun of Shmorky in a Youtube video. A bunch of her orbiters self-banned in solidarity and fucked off to an offshoot of the LP subforum called the LP Zone which never got off the ground because nobody with talent used it besides ChipCheezum (her boyfriend).
