But I get the feeling that Adrienne is likely based off somebody who slighted Jess and will be treated as a straw man who’s unfair to the bitchy cat in any future appearances without a hint of self awareness.
I think this is the most realistic inspiration for the comic.

By itself, I actually like the two pages because it's putting two flawed and fleshed out characters quickly through a complicated situation, and the reader can identify with one or more characters and interpret it a few ways. It leaves just the right amount of room for imagining your own follow-up/ending too. It's probably some of the best shit Jess has done so far IMO. Most tranny comics are wish fulfillment and a complete denial of reality, so the style and tone of stuff like this is interesting in how realistic it is.

I see your point, but considering the “Ivy needs a hug you guiz” and “I needed to get this off my chest” comments that accompany the comic, I get the impression that the intent was to exclusively sympathize with Ivy. So I get the impression that Jess purposefully tried to make the characters/situation realistic and complex is an optimistic reading at best.

A lot of SJW/Tumblr comics have this issue in my experience. They often write situations where people find the “wrong” characters just as or more sympathetic than the protagonists because of a lack of self-awareness, and then get super pissy about it.

I see where you're coming from, and I'm in agreement.

If you just look at this as a story, it works well. Someone is left out of a party, and feels bad about it; fine, we've all been there.

But if we speculate about the author's intentions, it gets a bit muddled. We all kind of suspect the intention is that we're supposed to feel bad for Ivy, but the problem is we don't really like her much and suspect we'd exclude her too.

And yeah, Udischas has this problem a lot. I respect her work but I don't think she gets how awful her characters come across.

Perhaps, though even when I try to look at this as a stand-alone and ignore Jess’ I rent, I still find myself immediately put off against Ivy by the second panel. I can’t help be notice that she already presumes that she can invite herself to this party that she’s only heard of just now, knows nothing about, and Abby already kind of hinted she couldn’t come to by describing it as being other plans that don’t involve Ivy. Combine that with the second page and it reads like Ivy is more unhealthily possessive of Abby than hurt by not being invited and that dries up my sympathy pretty quickly.

Not that I can say I sympathy for Abby either. Like I said, if someone is deliberately fueling drama chances are they’re at least subconsciously stirring shit, and the easier thing to do would’ve not to specify what the exact plans were in the first place.

By the time I get to the end the whole scenario just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Knowing the context just sours it further for me.

It's a little more complicated than that. Whoever excluded the kitty also told a friend she had done it, but not the reason why. The friend "helpfully" passed this information along but then went to the party anyway.

Man, no one comes off as likeable in that last comic.

First off, if someone doesn’t want a specific person invited to a party, the shittiest thing to do is explicitly tell the disinvited person - especially if you don’t know the reason. Not only is it none of your business, but you’re practically asking for drama to spring up from the disinvited individual. The only people who pull shit like that are people who want to stir shit and aren’t to be trusted.

Next, it’s pretty clear why the cat wasn’t invited just from glancing at the last page and previous comics: Ivy is a needy drama whore, has meltdowns at the smallest inconvenience, makes everything about themselves, and is constantly bitching or acting out in ways that are emotionally exhausting for everyone in earshot. And, to top it off, is making no efforts to work on any of these thing and would rather treat “friends” like free therapy. No one wants to deal with that kind of toxicity, and certainly not at a party.

But I get the feeling that Adrienne is likely based off somebody who slighted Jess and will be treated as a straw man who’s unfair to the bitchy cat in any future appearances without a hint of self awareness.
idk the cat is too emotional but i kinda sympathize with it. I mean, I'd be pretty upset if my best friend told me they were going to a party and I wasn't invited.
The bird's a bit of a cunt
