[insert witty shrugging gif here]
I only played the first episode of the first season of Life is Strange, the one featuring Max, the 18 year old that talked like a """"hip"""" 50 year old and Beanie Cap Skater Girl Trope #12. It was one of the very few games I intentionally put down. Not like, "got distracted by something else" put down, but conscientious effort "no thank you," put down. Main reason why I couldn't get into it, besides the attrocious "to cool for school" hipster-speak, was that it felt like every character was thought up by a high school creative writing class. Oh, this character is a Christian, therefore she's all mousey and demure. Oh this character is rich, therefore she's a stuck up bitch. Hello token, inoffensive black character! Hello token fat character that can't stand up for themselves! Hello manipulative white guy stereotype 1 through 5! So, maybe by the end of the first game they were more fleshed out or something, but all I know is that is that the town may or not have been destroyed by Sappho Surprise and that is enough for me to give it a pass.
Now with Life Is Strange: Return to the Diverstiy Well - this doesn't surprise me in the least. This doesn't even qualify an eyeroll from me, because Dontnod is setting themselves up for a fucking fall. The usual neckbeard dumbfucks are going to be the usual neckbeard dumbfucks, and the usual Let's Get Bitchin' Tacos groups are going to shower this with praise... until when the game comes out and then everyone remembers "Oh yeah, this is a game written by Dontnod," and the "first main transgender character" is going to yet another character built entirely on "positive" stereotypes and will not bring anything new and/or insightful.
All the same... just whatever. I don't even care anymore.
...
Also, another forgotten Dontnod game: Remember Me. Actually don't all that terrible. Fighting mechanics leave a lot to be desired but the design of the game is awesome, the Time Rewriting Mechanics in Life is Strange 1 were stolen wholecloth from this game too.
