Hey fams.
I recently noticed that my local grocery store now sells batat, i've never seen that thing and never tasted it so, as you might think, i want to try it. Tho it's quite pricey, expecially if you compare it to usual potato, it's, like, 10 times more expencive. So i don't want to cook it as a bland garnish, i want to make something special with it. So, do you know any good recepies?

I'm not much into sweet potato, but when I get some this is my favorite recipe to follow, since I use it so little I haven't tweaked it much and almost just follow it verbatim :) but if I may suggest, throw in a 1/8 or 1/4th teaspoon of ground chinese 5 spices, it will make it nicely fragrant and enhance the flavor greatly.

I like using it to add a sweet vegetable hit in soups and occasionally stews. Its also worth trying out seasoned sweet potato fries with whatever meat you have on hand. There is also Sweet Potato Pie and Sweet Potato Bread if you want something not bound to the savoury

Honestly your best bet would be to chopping some up into a soup, and either serving chunky or puree'd in order to gauge how much you like it as a flavour, since some people find it way too overpowering and a simple soup is probably the easiest/cheapest way you can test it out for yourself

why don't you ask ol' jack!

but seriously, just bake as per any usual potato, usually best low and slow in the oven. they tend to shrivel up a bit while cooking. cut open and add some butter, honey, and cinnamon.
there are tons of holiday sweet potato recipes too. my family usually mashes them and puts marshmallows on top, and then caramelizes the whole thing. some people hate that shit though.

That's what I do with my sweet potatoes because if you just eat them plain you're a monster.

Good luck with your thanksgiving cooking OP.

This is my are of expertise

You cut the sweet potato into fries, the thinner the better, they should be on McDonalds level of fry-thinness. Put them in a bowl, add some clarified butter (only fat you should ever be using for cooking), and some spices of your choice, turmeric, chili, powdered garlic all go well with sweet potato. You mix it all up, and put into oven, and you oven it until it's completely soft which usually takes 20-30 minutes. Then you pour tabasco and garlic sauce over it and proceed to eat.

Nutritionally it's worth it, sweet potato is similar to normal potato in macros, however the difference is it has a shit ton of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is pretty neat because it's required for biosynthesis of pregnenolone which is a precursor for other hormones necessary for optimal endocrinal health.

I usually cook it the same way I cook mashed potato, only I add some brown sugar and cinnamon to the cream, salt and pepper

I've seen sweet potato bake/casserole done with cranberries, pecans and some weird sugary mixture. It's actually pretty good.
