Also, why is she coming "for a visit" with the man she's married to? She doesn't want to live with him full time but let her impregnate her?

The whole "too sick to return to Canada" thing is pathetic, but I have seen couples do the visiting thing during the time they're waiting for a partner visa to be granted.

It's an issue which really only comes up in short relationships - otherwise there is plenty of time to get the visa before marriage. We no longer have birthright citizenship here, but when we did you would sometimes see mothers returning to their home country and leaving the kid here with dad while the immigration process played out.
