I can't be the only one who actually agrees with Jenny Nicholson's white knights that it's autistic as shit to spend like 7 hours talking about how some random woman on the internet didn't like The Joker. Isn't that the kind of weapons-grade 'tism that people on this site usually mock rather than defend?

I tried to watch that EFAP stream because I figured they'd spend like maybe 20 minutes on that subject so I could find that part of the video, watch it, and then peace out. But nope! They spent honest to God seven fucking hours critiquing a Jenny Nicholson video of all things. I kept scrolling through the video to see where the end of the Nicholson section was and it just kept going.

It is an almost unbelievable degree of autism that would lead 4 men to spend seven hours discussing a half hour youtube video because someone didn't like a movie. The mere existence of that stream is closer to lolcow material than anything Nicholson has ever done.

Yeah, it’s actually funny; one of them tried to counter the complaint that they spent way too much effort on a fucking Jenny Nicholson video by saying their critics, by voicing criticisms, are also spending way too much time thinking about something they didn’t like. Except, like, they didn’t spent 11 hours recording a podcast shitting on EFAP.

I like having film critique channels as background noise, but the fact that Mauler’s videos can occasionally be longer than the films they’re about seriously puts me off from even wanting to try his videos.

But you see I must explain every single plot point in excruciating and repetitive detail to you like a simpleton, so that you can understand why [recent film] is objectively good/bad.

Also I thought the point Jenny was making when she was suggesting possible themes (like being on medications is bad) was that the movie wasn't consistent with how it communicated its theme, and as a result such ridiculous interpretations could be made. I don't agree with her, but I think it's wrong to say that she unironically thought that the theme was that you shouldn't take meds.

Look at the facts:
1) Mauler and his crew routinely produce 8-12 hour videos shitting on basic bitch youtubers like Jenny.
2) They do no preparation prior to the discussion.
3) The vast majority of their discussion time is spent on tangential or unrelated matters (shitposting, sharing memes, talking to the audience, etc.).

The fact is, it wasn't a 7 hour discussion about Jenny because Jenny just isn't interesting or important enough to deserve a 7 hour discussion. It was, instead, a bunch of guys who merely used Jenny's video as an springboard to shoot the shit for 7 hours.

Of course the white knights and the salty cat ladies desperately want to portray it as men being autistically obsessed with a "woman on the internet" because it strokes their fragile egos and makes them feel important. But the truth is, the video could have been about any half-wit's Joker hot take and Mauler's crew would have spent the same amount of time and effort ignoring it while they talked shit for 7 hours.

He's an autist because he made a 4 hour video setting out the "rules" of how he plans to review a movie (that he never reviewed) and constantly invoking the term 'facts and argumentation' to explain why his opinion is better than yours. EFAP, for all its flaws, is the least autistic thing he's done because in EFAP he's being social, engaging in conversation with friends, showing emotion, joking around, and other things autistic people have trouble with.

While they have an autistic approach to analysis and opinions, they're just the equivalent of the Youtube reply-girls. They don't make Twitter threads about somebody, they just have long livestreams where they talk about a video and some random crap. EFAP is just a really long podcast that you can listen in the background while doing something else.

Why would it be weird? From an abstract perspective, their core content is similar - deep dives into topics that most people are not familiar with. With Jenny, it’s theme parks and shit, with Fredrik it’s internet (and occasionally IRL) oddities. Her videos that aren’t dumb Star Wars hot takes or Disney shilling are actually alright.

Fredrik does seem to stick out in that list though, I've watched (and enjoyed) a lot of Nicholson's videos, the idea of her watching videos on DSP, and Wings of Redemption is a really strange one for me.

Jenny has an email address with the vidward.com domain. The Vidward website advertises itself as providing access to social media creators. The wesbsite is a bit of a mess but it doesn't seem to just be another YouTube Network.

If you do a search for 'Vidward' the google algorithim throws up a lot of Nicholson social media...?

Also they're advertising for unpaid interns, unlike Lindsay Ellis someone doesn't seem to be bothered about benefiting from unpaid labor.

The OP has a good point when he goes over how connected she is to Contrapoints, Ellis and Hbomberguy. However she's much more careful than they are, in the way she interacts with people. When she does slip up you need to archive quickly, last year she made a few snarky tweets, for of all things, fans replying to her tweets wanting to talk about stuff other than what was mentioned in the original tweet, which really seemed to piss her off. It was really strange but when I went back to reread them everything had been deleted.

Yep, because she's also probably smart enough to notice that the tides are eventually going to turn and "political content" is going to age like rotten milk. Talking about Disney and objectively bad movies/books/fanfic is a way safer bet for longevity.

Plus, I can't help but wonder if it's not so much that Jenny sucks up to the likes of Lindsay and Contrapoints, but that it's rather the opposite - since Jenny seems to be the one with the industry connections.
