I think a lot of people serve it out of nostalgia. It was a popular dish when I was a kid a long time ago (they also used to do aspic and appetizers made from vienna sausages -- not a great time for the culinary arts back then) and compared to some other things, it was not that bad tasting (at least to a kid). In our family, it was a once a year kind of thing like cranberry sauce. It would be good one time a year and you never thought about having it in between. I also did grow up in a poor white family, so maybe it's just common white trash food?

A 'classic' holiday dish that came out of 1950s corporate kitchens and insisted upon canned fried onions along with the canned soup and the canned beans? Yes, fellow UK/Euro fags - the Seppoes not only put fried onions in tins but they revere that shit as a 'tradition' on their most 'meaningful' national celebration.

The fuck are they 'Giving Thanks' for when pounding down this bilge? The death of fresh local food? The ultimate win of Campbells (of Camden NJ, the USA's most infamous inner-city eyesore) over farms, gardens and allotments? New 19th c. city families surely must have grown food within the platts and sections that were gifted to them by the continent's vastnesses (when in the UK they were lucky to have access to an open drain to the mid-street runnel). But of course, in the Land of the Free, such little local enterprise paradoxically had to die because business must prevail. How dare those peasants not accept their new overlords by growing not buying! What are the new nation's struggling middlemen gonna do? So, a few years later and meanwhile 'traditional' (ie. mass-produced mush) cranberry still wins only because people were desperate to taste something - anything - from that Classic Thanksgiving table laden with the 'American Dream' of a cotton-wool-textured, mutant-flesh, broken-leg Butterball tom-freak surrounded by bowls of the afforementioned cost-diddled mushy saline slops.

I have to say Jen was on my B list of fatty hate watching, mainly because she is just so boring. But this development with Gene is stirring up her life. In the last videos she has demonstrated that she is struggling to deal with all the extra criticism (and people not believing in their true love) and her bitchy “I’m not stupid” attitude is shining through.

Now this Gene character, as many have mentioned, is definitely not out of the woods with alcoholism and it is now pretty interesting to see how this train wreck will unravel!

That tree is triggering. I don't have fancy decorations, either, but I at least put them on carefully. It doesn't look like I just wrapped all the lights tightly around the top and dangled some off the bottom leaving a big gaping area in the middle of the tree. To me, he is just the user type. The type that will come over to help an old lady with yard work and then look through her medicine cabinet to steal her good drugs. Or the kind that will slowly take valuable things a little at at time so you don't notice and then pawn them for cash. He'd likely be the kind to tell Jen that he needs to be added to her bank account so he can write a check / use her debit card when he goes out to do errands for her. All he has to do is just flash a smile at a lonely, desperate fat girl and convince her that he really likes her for who she is. Easy Peasy.

When he's taken as much as he can from her, he'll either move on or try to get her kicked out since his name is on the lease now. That's if he lives long enough to do that. If not, she'll just get to take care of him and clean up the mess when his organs fail and he dies in her apartment.
