Hey y’all! A lot of you online know me as Princess. I am a Black trans woman living in Japan. I have lived in Japan for around three years, and in Asia overall for around five years, due to unforeseen circumstances. I am originally from Virginia in the United States, where I have spent most of my life. A lot of people are unaware that the current medical system for trans women, specifically Black and PoC trans women, is archaic, full of rampant discrimination, and fails so many of us in terms of obtaining medication, support, and medical surgeries. This is a global issue that not only affects America and Japan, but so many other places around the world. As a result, I am crowdfunding to support my gender confirmation surgeries.

I socially transitioned years ago in America before moving abroad. When I moved to Japan, I looked into ways to legally and medically transition here. As a result, I medically transitioned around a year ago and legally transitioned just under a year ago. The process was long, costly, and left me without savings. Even so, I feel happier and just a little more comfortable in my skin, but that doesn’t change the fact that I have faced a lot of discrimination. Because I am a Black trans woman, I face discrimination for being Black, trans, and a woman. This can result in death for a lot of my sisters and Japan isn’t an exception in this growing global problem. I have dealt with extreme racism and transphobia here in Japan for living as my true self. It has resulted in police harassment, sexual harassment from men and women (including others in the LGBTQIAP community), being followed home, and extreme work discrimination. Though I had worked successfully in Osaka for more than two years, as a result of workplace discrimination, I was fired from a following job shortly after my relocation to Tokyo, where I moved in the spring of 2019. The workplace in question took issue with my identity from the very start and my dispatch company terminated my contract by that summer. The dispatch company that urged me to relocate did nothing to intervene, or to assist me in finding other work, despite the financial hardship I endured to relocate for the position. Regardless of my wrongful termination, I simply do not have much legal backing or power to do anything about it, due to my place in society. Since then it has been difficult to return to a place of financial stability, but I am continuing to do everything I can in hopes of achieving this again, in spite of contending with continued discrimination in the workplace.

One thing I realised through all of this hardship is that life is too short and I shouldn’t keep putting things off, hoping that my situation will improve. I had dreams of saving up my money to pay for my gender confirming surgeries, but the system was not made for Black trans women in society to prosper. It was made for those more privileged in society.

That is why I am here asking for your help. I need these surgeries as a means to help me rid myself of my gender dysphoria and to survive in a world that wants me dead. Any amount donated is welcome and would go towards surgery, recovery, rent and utilities, and any other unforeseen costs. Sharing this with everyone you can would be greatly appreciated. Surgical breakdown:

Vocal Feminisation Surgery (VFS): $8,000. This should cover the surgery, lodging, and hopefully any other unforeseen costs. I am hoping to get this surgery no later than the summer of 2020, as this transition is most urgent for me in terms of improving my chances of safety and acceptance in society. Therefore, I would need the full amount donated no later than April of 2020 in order to reserve the surgical procedure while leaving enough time for recovery.

Gender Reassignment Surgery (GRS): $23,000. This should cover the surgery and lodging during my first month of recovery. These costs may increase in the case my doctor adjusts any billing.

Recovery: $4,000. This will help me recover for the required three months after gender reassignment surgery (GRS). This will help cover things such as food, medication, rent and utilities, and anything else I’d need during recovery. I will probably be recovering by myself unfortunately. These costs may increase due to unforeseen circumstances during this stage of my life.

Total: $35,000.

Keep in mind, this is referring to people suffering from dysphoria. It's even worse for people who were convinced by people in the community/other trannies they had dysphoria, and then go on to get the drugs illegally from very questionable sources to start transitioning based on guides they read online (and that's if an "informed consent based clinic" doesn't give it to them). This oftentimes results in even more unsatisfactory results than getting medication the legal way, due to the nature of dysphoria and the fact they're taking the drugs based online without tests.

One such example is /r/TransDIY, and they actually had an article on The Atlantic. This is actually a very divided topic in the community according to the article and not because of transtrenders either, but because it's risky as hell, and the Atlantic article doesn't even talk about the negatives of it besides the usual "blah blah online pharmacies are illegal and shady" stuff.

some evidence based facts:
- the only thing binary about human sexuality is what kind of gamete is produced by one's gonads. beyond that, there is too much variation, both physically and psychologically, to label everybody male or female. historically, cultures have recognized at least three sexes, male, female and intersex, and transgender people. - It has also been found that the horrifying rates of suicide, self harm and substance abuse are linked to rejection by family, getting terrorized just walking down the street and facing insurmountable ob st acles to employment, housing and access to health care. not really. i just want to say that the people who are most visible , tend to be the most weird, some of them so weird, like jessica yaniv, that they are a serious detriment to the community as a whole.

A quick look at the photos told me two things: most of those were fresh from surgery and won't look so bad after they've healed. The actual satisfaction rate for the surgery is claimed to range as high as 98%. long term results for surgery and/or hormones are very promising, showing strongly reduced rates of need for psychiatric care.
