I don't know if she's a cow but the amount of men ready to defend her the second they hear some tiny bit of criticism is really weird.

She's not fugly and has "nerdy interests", namely Star Wars. Pretty self explanatory.

Plus, I can't help but wonder if it's not so much that Jenny sucks up to the likes of Lindsay and Contrapoints, but that it's rather the opposite - since Jenny seems to be the one with the industry connections.

The only time I've found, that Nicholson appears on any other channel other than her own, it's a corporate one like the Millennial Falcon series she did for screen Junkies. It's a safe bet that she wasn't working for 'exposure' either, she was being paid, or receiving suitable remuneration. Most likely paid to as yet unidentified LLC (why is it so hard to do a company director search in the US?)

That's not a criticism of her, in fact if I had to guess I think she's the breadtuber least likely to self destruct in the coming years. Unlike Ellis she's not going to put a half dozen of her mates on the payroll, rip her reproductive organs out, like contrapoints, defend a sex offender like Hbomberguy, or put child porn on her computer like Dan Olsen.

The zeal with which she defends The Last Jedi is very strange to me. As seen with the recent video on Frozen 2 and plenty of her past videos she is willing to shit on Disney movies if she doesn't like them so it's not like there's no precedent for her to express negative opinions on them. She really tore Solo a new one IIRC so it's not even a Star Wars thing necessarily. TLJ also seems to have plenty of stuff she dislikes in movies going off of the things she complains about in her more critical reviews. I don't know, maybe she is on the Mouse's payroll and that's just the one movie they're really assblasted about?

I read an article a while back about how people feel the need to defend such mediocre movies because the hatedom for them is so toxic. Shame on the people who drove Kelly Marie Tran off social media. Like she had any control over any of the movie’s creative decisions.

It still hasn't quite been proven that there was any mass bullying against Kelly Marie Tran, to my understanding. I mean, regardless, I only hold animosity for the film itself, and not the actors. I feel bad for Kelly Marie Tran. She was given one of the worst Star Wars characters and given the single worst subplot in Star Wars history.

The Porgs are the best part about the Sequel Trilogy. They're derpy abominations, and I kind of love them. Haha.

I've actually witnessed Kelly Marie Tran getting a WHOLE LOT of hate on her Instagram, while it was still active - but it wasn't just from people hating The Last Jedi, it was also Finnrey/Stormpilot shippers who were butthurt her character got in their way of their precious ship. But of course they're not going to call them out. I'd bet Adam Driver would get a whole lot of hate from that crowd too if he was on social media.

Of course it's a shitty thing to do, but we didn't get puff pieces about Ahmed Best being harassed or Jake Lloyd being harassed because everyone accepted that it was a very shitty vocal minority. I'm not accusing you of doing anything, trust me, I'm responding to your point that sometimes people feel a need to defend TLJ because of the hatedom and saying it's stupid to defend a mediocre or bad movie because some people are over the top in their hatred. If you want to critcize a film, keep actors out of it - in the worse case, they were just doing their job as they were told. There wasn't anything at the time. And at least part of that was because social media as we know it didn't exist, it was mostly contained to forums you could ignore. But the fact remains, everyone knows and says "yeah, that sucked, any fanbase that's large enough has those people" without handwringing over big bad misogynists and racists. The overwhelming majority of people, even those that hate TLJ, agree with the sentiment you're espousing. Where we disagree is that I think the reason those people are considered the norm is because of puff pieces that went all in on that angle to defend Disney's Star Wars. Because we certainly weren't getting those puff pieces when the Harry Potter play was getting criticized, everyone rightfully pointed out the people harassing that woman over playing Hermione were the minority and continued to criticize it for actual flaws. But we don't get that with Star Wars.

What? He was very important in A New Hope and even more important in Return of the Jedi. One of the only suggestions Lucas made to JJ for TRoS is to incorporate C-3PO, because he and R2 are the storytellers. Either way, it doesn't matter what he said, he got harassed for it. I agree it's fucked up how much harassment Ahmed Best and Jake Lloyd (who was a literal child) got, but Jake Lloyd is apparently schizophrenic. It's tough to draw a line from internet harassment to a mostly genetic illness like schizophrenia. It isn't like Lloyd was institutionalized for depression, which might be overwhelmingly caused by internet harassment.

The Star Wars franchise has literally billions of fans. The Last Jedi is hated by most of them. The vast majority of the people that hate it stick to criticisms of the movie, not going after the actors, and countless people have elaborated on exactly where the film fails for them. Most of the ones who hassle actors are stupid teenagers and kids. But even one hundredth of one percent is going to be a whole lot of people with a fanbase that big.

The Last Jedi hatedom is not "so toxic" to any greater degree than any other franchise. It's just really, really, really, really huge. Because the Star Wars fanbase is the largest science fiction fanbase in the world. And The Last Jedi really, really, really, really sucked.
