Judging from what I played of half life 2 alyx is just going to be a glorified tech demo that wins "game of the year all years" in pc circles that jerk off to anything vaguely half life related. I give it a few years before vr tech advances and this game ages like milk just like half life 2.

What was so bad about half life 2? I get all the stupid unskippable cutscenes and less weapon variety than the first but the rest was pretty awesome and the mods were icing on the cake.

Anyway, we're getting a second opinion on this whole VR fps thing. Boneworks lands in 5 days so keep an eye on it as it'll be a good indicator of if it works or not. (Although keep in mind that the boneworks creators have repeatedly stated that they're gonna be more radical than valve with their vr game design)

Yeah, clearly.

Boneworks and Half Life Alyx are seen as the big two. The two games that dare to be different.

Half life 2 plays like actually garbage the gunplay is terrible in my opinion and the physics while groundbreaking at the time didn't add to the game. The driving levels are also trash going for way to long and getting mind numbing after awhile.

Then there's that boring physics self wank section in some city infested with head crabs that would be inexcusable in any other game based on just how fucking repetitive the enemies are with the physics never adding more that throw things, spinny traps, and falling cars.

Tl;dr half life 2 aged poorly and plays poorly compared to other shooters of it's day.

Ravenholm is awesome, especially when you only use the gravity gun for the achievement.

I hated searching around for a new saw blade after every single shot.
Frankly, the only time the gravity gun was really fun was when it got supercharged and you could ragdoll the fuck out of everyone.

But Half-Life always suffered from weak weapons. The only really fun gun in HL1 was the gauss gun but you usually didn't want to waste its ammo.

When I played through half life 1, and I got to the part where you get thrown in the trash compactor and they take away all your weapons, I never got the revolver, and I had to play through the rest of the game without it.

How the hell did you manage that? Its a pickup in multiple locations afterwards. Hell because I'm a fucking psychopath the first thing I did after one of the Barneys gave me his dying speech was step on his gun.

Btw the way I've probably literally played and replayed HL2 more than HL1 and its variants combined (and I used to literally finish the game and just start over again for the first ones once I got my hands on them) and, yeah, it has every shooter flaw imaginable. Its just old and limp. HL1 and its mutant tard babies at least are a madcap deranged mess fillled with complete insanity. Shit's blowing up and falling apart around you, all of the annoying scientists are getting slaughtered in different and hilarious ways each time, the enemies are freaky, fast and dangerous, the military's fighting them at the same time, you're just trying to get out and lunatics like Marphy Black are STILL finding new AI and gameplay mechanics that most people failed to notice for 20+ years.

I think if Quiver did everything it was supposed to, it would have ended the videogame industry. Both artistically ("we can never top this") and legally ("videogames are banned forever"). HL1 is just a fraction of that and its still a masterpiece. HL2 is just... okay, I guess.

You'd figure they'd have a "hide hands" option. This is an odd way of taking pics

Been thinking about it and yeah, if Boneworks turns out to be decent, I'll probably get a VR kit. I'll be at the absolute bare minimum of spec requirements but whatever. I remember playing HL2 at like ~20-25 fps on release.
Just make sure you have a good cpu for physics calculations!

I know, but getting and maintaining hardware from 2008 (as to include the motionplus) is a pain in the ass. Especially the fucking batteries.

E: Rn I'm looking around the storage room to find controllers for a system I last played on like 7 years ago and I can't find the nunchucks or motionplus. This is fucking torture.

E: Found the nunchucks in a cupboard in a different room I havent looked in since around 2010. I'm sure I've seen the motionplus SOMEWHERE in the same spot for ages but I can't find it.

E: Still can't find the fucking motionplus. Might even have to order a new one.

First world problems, man...

Still havent found it.
I can see the giant fucking balence board tho (And I managed to remove the batteries before they corroded). Wii Fit Plus on PC is gonna be cool.
This brings up an interesting point. I like the Idea of VR because it makes you stand and kinda counts as execise.

I'd hold off if you're at minimum, FPS dips in VR are rough.

I don't know that it under normal circumstances qualifies as exercise, but room scale certainly makes you use weird muscle groups. I stand and walk the majority of the time as part of my job and I would still get tired after 30 minutes of VR from maintaining my balance blind.

Gentlemen. I have found the mottionplus.

...after ordering a new one on ebay.

Oh well, I knew part of the deal was instantly finding the original one so it was still worth it. Plus I have two wiimotes so that's one for each.
Now to clean everything and get batteries.

Wonder why there's no preorder on Boneworks?
Probably because it’s made by a small indie company, I dunno. Do you all want this forum to expand to Boneworks discussion?
