I think it's for liability reasons.

When trump deranged goons have their dedicated Trump threads they just go insane. There is a reason why they had to ban politics in General Bullshit and change the dedicated Trump thread to "United States Politics."

It's because of goons going literally psychotic. They make themselves so upset that they are either threatening to commit suicide or harm others.

That is just so bizarre to me, why would you let yourself get that upset over Trump?

The guy has done literally nothing to warrant that type of response, it all just comes down to the fact that he's not who they wanted or expected to be President and they're spoiled fucking children that are throwing temper tantrums.

I always figured that he was the ultimate scapegoat. Someone they could project all of their issues onto without ever being told to calm down because everyone else in their online communities despise him as much as they do. The man himself and his actions have nothing to do with it, they are just screaming in pure rage at the world.

Even among the Tumblr atmosphere over there they have to either ban the threads or dilute them with other subjects. Now the people fantasizing about going postal or killing themselves are drowned out by dozens of other people trying to have relatively normal political arguments and the extremely mentally ill have had their well poisoned and move on with relatively little fuss.

You can see it in the first of the new iterations of the "United States Politics" thread. When they closed the dedicated D&D trump thread there was a large contingent of posters fucking losing their minds in protest. They tried to claim that the problem was allowing a platform for chud racists to complain about Democrats but they were upset they no longer had what they called "The Funniest Thread on the Internet" which was a 24/7 lynchmob reading a steady drip of Trump tweets while crafting elaborate violent/suicide fantasies and now they were expected to talk about actual politics.

Background:
Star Citizen is a game that raised over 100 million dollars on Kickstarter. People paid $10,000-20,000 , sometimes more, for the promise of pretend spaceships in a game that didn't exist yet. Actually its still not even a game, at this point its barely more than a tech demo. Anyway this naturally attached a bunch of autists and morons with more money and sense. (OTOH $20,000 for pretend spaceships that don't and might never exist is a better use of money than chopping off your dick and taking estrogen, so not the dumbest population of goons*)

Goons like to pretend they aren't as bad as Redditors, so Goons laugh at the Reddit Star Citizen thread and their dumb hot takes. They usually do this by posting screenshots of dumb reddit posts. These usually include the user. Goons being goons, they then proceed to internet detective the dumbass in the post to laugh at other things they said on reddit.

One of the goons went really deep-dive on one particular redditor who seems to be a big mucketymuck in the Star Citizen community. Not too the level of a doxx, but like a good ol' fashioned helldumping. This was followed up by a bunch of goons doing internet toughguy shit facetiously claiming they were going to Goon Mafia and doxx the shit out of a serious of redditors.

Apparently all this laughing and having fun triggered an Admin or an Admin's toadie. No making fun of people on internet comedy forum Something Awful, you might trigger a tranny. So Beet handed out a round of sixers to everyone who was enjoying themselves, and forbade posting reddit usernames when posting reddit quotes.

Beet explained why the punishments were so light (first infractions for people obviously just laughing at redditors and making empty threats so empty they barely rise to "threat") so that any debate about them would be modsass and therefore verboten.
