You mean Obscurus Lupa Presents? I just remember her doing The Room, Miami Connection, and We Wish You A Turtle Christmas. I'm not sure of her viewcount on those since she ditched that era the moment she could do YouTube and Patreon on her own.

My first guess was most of her subs are from whatever momentum she had as Lupa, which was Z movies and retrospectives on series that have demographics that don't really pay attention to youtube (charmed and baywatch). I've never watched any of her stuff on youtube except for picking apart reasons here, so I took a peek at her channel to understand what's going on. Her sub to view ratio is abysmal for starters. I checked her last year of vids and the majority of them failed to crack 10k. A lot of them are charmed related and she's lucky to get 3k on those. One star trek video a few months ago got a little traction and got to 60k. Her crossovers this year were the second best at 60k (with Jack Packard) 55k (with Linkara) 27k (with Jaymes Mansfield watch if you want to see what Allison looks like with her makeup done by a drag queen that lacks foundation light enough for her skin) and 23K with Linkara again. Then I sorted by all time and her best video ever was CTC with 316k. So I'm going to revise my initial guess and say most of her subs were actually CTC related. And socialblade confirms she gained 11k subs from CTC. That's 20% of all her subs. Who probably subbed out of solidarity and have never watched and will never watch any of her content.

Her trek video did well because it's a clean staight forward click baity thumbnail. It's not clogged up with BS like all her others, it's very unique compared to her other attempts. Most of her thumbnails are really bad and I can see why she never gets any organic traction from the YTbots. Unless you sub to her you're never going to see her stuff, let alone want to click on it. I think her other problem is she is making content SHE wants to make and not paying attention to her analytics and trying to pivot based on where her views are coming from. This is a classic mistake, since she is not an influencer and can't make "anything" content. People aren't watching for Lupa first, they're watching for the content she's talking about first. You're not iDubz Allison you can't go on a year long random squirrel content binge and have people watch. Her trek video seemed to get served outside her subs, she should be picking that one apart trying to emulate it. That should tell her to focus more on "hey remember this stupid episode" videos and not "let me rant about this one charmed episode for 30 minutes to 2k people", yet it doesn't.

Which brings me to my other issue, her channel lacks focus. It's not just B movies. It's not just TV retrospectives. It's not just 90s nostalgia. It's truly random. I mean she has a 15 minute ice cream review video....wuh...why are you talking about ice cream on a movie channel? She prefaces it that she tweeted about the ice cream sharing her channel name and the brand sent her some free. So? Why even bother making content based on it if it's nothing relating to your content and you're floundering? People tend to prefer channels with a narrow focus and they know what to expect when a notification goes off. With Allison you have no idea. If you sub for the 80s movies you're not going to touch a charmed review. If you subbed for baywatch...well she's made 1 of those in 2 months. She needs to pick something and focus on it because like I said, as much as she wishes, she is NOT an influencer and the number of subs watching her content for her is very very small. The time it's taking her to do these piddly vids that no one is watching isn't worth it. If it were a hobby channel it would be fine to make whatever even if barely anyone watches but this is her entire career. She's not treating it like one. She can't keep going on with this "anything" content and expect to leverage it into a career if you're not charismatic or beautiful, and she aint.

Anyway Lupa I know you're reading so I'll take my mentoring payment in the form of you not playing with Walmart makeup kits anymore.

Even Phelous has different types of videos he does movie/animation review, bootleg toy reviews, ect. but he has a schedule for them. You can see it looking at his channel. It's not 10 bootleg reviews in a row then nothing for months. Like you said, Lupa is just doing whatever whenever she wants. Why would she do a review on the Kiss movie? Why would she review anything about Trek? She never even talked about this stuff before.

She was originally know for B horror movies and weird TV shows like She Wolf of London. I think she wants to burn her old brand so bad that she's just throwing darts and not doing things that she's really interested in.

Phelan has just a tiny bit more structure and is more concise with what you can expect. I think his overall "brand" appeals to the same type of person and that helps a lot. Someone who watches one of his vids on Dingo Pictures might be interested in bootleg toys too since they're both in that space of being shitty rip offs of other things. His content choices gel better. His thumbnails are every bit hot garbage like Lupa's though. Also as bland and grating as I find Phelan, he comes off as more genuine. Like he's actually interested in what he's talking about. You're correct that she's doing things she doesn't seem entirely interested in. She's just going through the motions of "this is what big youtubers do why isn't it working for me"? You either have it or you don't.

I agree with all this, and the makeup stuff is very emblematic of it all. She's terrible at makeup application, but she clearly doesn't like it either, doesn't get or give inspiration from it, but for whatever reason she now feels compelled to wear garish makeup all the time and make awkward videos about cheap palettes. The videos suck, because instead of her focusing on making them funny or maybe doing a "Hey, I suck at this application, let's see if we can try to fix it this time if you suck at makeup too!", she's visibly uncomfortable and tries to rush through it. Viewers only have that anxiety to pick up on because there's nothing to learn or be aspirational with in her videos, so without humor... it's nothing.
