Arin Hanson / Egoraptor / Grump - "Hey I'm Grump!" of Game Grumps fame, hypocritical SJW doxer, shat himself recording a let's play

I know comparing Oney to eggo is cliché as fuck but I just wanna point out something he did recently that only highlights how badly Soviet Jump Game and... uh... book written by fictional uncle were marketed. He recently did a one-off for AI Dungeon Master, and then tweeted about the creator's Patreon.

(It's a fucking hilarious video too btw)

Slightly off topic, but those AI Dungeon Master episodes they did literally made me puke from laughing (I'm also sick with a cold right now). The concept of an AI weaving together a storyline of a NEET Wizard screaming for chicken tendies and Prince Andrew breaking Epstein out of prison is so ingenious I'm surprised AI storytelling hasn't been pursued further.

Also, while not directly referencing Arin, this is a pretty good synapsis of his cult of faggotry.

Bits are supposed to also be convincing to people, no?
It's not much of a bit with no punchline
You know how it could have worked? If his “uncle” took over GG and hosted an episode and it was obviously Arin in a wig doing a bad voice. It wouldn’t have been particularly funny, but that would have made the “I hate this, don’t buy it” marketing actually effective to his fan base. Why would his regular fans buy a book they thought he was forced to promote?

The same reason he expects them to roll on the floor laughing whenever he talks about his pussay, his fan base is little autistic.

And now, Arin's hiding tweets he doesn't like (the message pops up when you click on his latest tweet).

Oh, and the book is now 34% off.

...yay.

And message is the redeeming thing about hiding replies on Twitter. It's a big "this man is too much of a pussy to let you see these lumped with everyone else " message

I think it’s awesome how in the second AI dungeon episode on oney plays, Chris gets major props for encouraging people to go support the guy who made it and pays for it all out of pocket. That’s something modern Arin could never do,
Seriously if Game Grumps played that, it would not be funny at all, no linkara references, no pushing the system to its limits, and Arin would be like “THIS COMPUTERS SO STOOPID DOOD!”
Then the lovelies would try to download the game, then when the creator disables the site for overwhelming traffic, the lovelies would harass him and the project would be cancelled.
Then a month later Arin would be like “Whatever happened to that AI dungeon game?”
Then Dan goes “The creator shut it down, I dunno why though.”
Arin then goes “That’s STOOPID! It would’ve made him a lot of money!”
They both laugh and the creator cries himself to sleep.

You know how Arin is bragging his(I'm sorry - his 'uncle's) book is #1 trending on; well, turns out he's lying - sort of.

A poster over on Reddit shared this info; and - if it's accurate - it's just a repeat of that weird flex he did over the Summer (i.e. - making these book sales seem more successful than they actually are; like how he boasted Dream Daddy was the second highest selling indie game of 2017 when it never made any gaming charts outside of an obscure one and only got honorable mentions in others).

Pretty normal discounting. Most book store employees get a 20%-30% discount on all books and the maximum "normal" coupons you'll see across any chain is 40% off(though it usually comes via email lists and promotions). It's common for a new book to be discounted in this ballpark to move product quickly depending on the projected sales forecasts with publisher's blessing. Bigger names like Oprah titles will try to squeeze for more money at 20%-15% instead.

The book isn't desperately on sale until you see 50-60-75% numbers. That's dumping dead product in the bargain bin to clear shelf space.

And exceptionalism marches on.
The one reassuring thing about that thread is that one guy defending Arin's marketing ploys is getting downvoted.

Oh, but I guess that must be rantgrumps users downvoting him; because real Grumps fans wouldn't find anything wrong with what Arin's doing.

Does that apply to pre-orders, as well? Just seems rather weird to me, if it does - seeing as it's not a completed sale and buyers can cancel at any time before the book launches (which isn't scheduled to happen until March of 2020).

Pre-orders in physical stores don't take any money down, unlike GameStop. You can put money down, but the big chains don't require or encourage it in the US. If there's discounting information in advance, it might get communicated to the customer but if they're aware of the product pre-printing, it's assumed they're following the author or publisher online and already know what to expect in discounts.

Online, I assume you'd have to pre-pay. The point of pre-orders for physical stores is it informs each region how many to buy/ship to fulfill interest, but Amazon just takes the money upfront and I assume any lemons they over-buy are dumped on dollar stores, flea markets or Five Below/Books-A-Million outlets.

It’s almost like it’s a clearly fake joke that anyone with an ounce of intelligence could understand and choose to play along with.

Like I said before, I don’t think this is a good bit, but anyone willing to use common sense can see it’s a bit. People write books under different pseudonyms all the time. Spoiler; Lemony Snicket isn’t the dude’s real name. And Arin is just using his Twitter to do a fun bit to promote the book.

Screw you guys for making me defend him, I just don’t see this as manipulative at all. It’s a bit of fun to promote a product.
I don't think Arin is pen-naming in good faith, but you have a valid point in general:

Ghost Hunters Adventure Club and the Secret of the Grande Chateau is #1 best selling. But when you look into it, it's not something to boast about.
It's #1 in the category of #1 New Release: in Teen & Young Adult Mystery & Thriller & Action & Adventure. Sounds like a lot of qualifiers, right?

Well when you break it down, yes, it is. Here is GameGrump's rank when you take away its verbose range of tags one by one
New Releases in Teen & Young Adult Action & Adventure: #15
New Releases in Teen & Young Adult Literature & Fiction: #34

New Releases in Teen & Young Adult Books: #52
New Releases in Books: Not in the Top Hundred

Now I would never say GameGrumps put a turducken of qualifiers that dont align with the actual story of the book to get the equivalent of a Participation Trophy to brag about. That book desciption GameGrumps put on their Amazon page says enough.

So, I know this isn't explicitly a Game Grumps thread but I just skimmed through the newest episode. Not very exciting, I know, but I think the last series of them I watched was the Kirby's Dreamcourse/Grumpcourse one (2016). All I have to say my god, how depressing.

You know those people that you have no problem with but don't really want to talk to? That was the entire episode. Half-hearted conversation and barely conscious responses. Compare this to the way they acted back then. They joked around more, acted like buddies, referenced past episodes, had deeper conversations. There were obnoxious memes of course, but not as many.

Like I said, the new episode was depressing.

You would be surprised how many original fans stopped at that series. Nothing but shitty references and over used jokes, but spread over fucking 60 parts. This was also the time Arin was really fucking boring and only had 3 emotions, anger, joy and boredom. While Dan would regurgitate Reddit stories while occasionally shit talking Arin (Which was reminiscent of the older GG, but a shell of it's former self with Dan apologizing seconds later after every call out. Or doing that GOD AWFUL baby talk along side with whatever meme interested them at the time. Like singing Nickelback songs poorly.). I know this is a little off topic, but god the depression really hits when the "downfall" was nearly half a decade ago. Mr bones has had some crazy fucking rides for these two.

Meanwhile, Good Mythical Morning, authors of 2 books, likely to get them a second NY bestseller, at the most shill it for ten seconds at the start of an episode and stopped the second it was released and they concluded their give-away fan dinner.

They went back to making content. Arin should try that.
