Brianna Wu / John Walker Flynt - "Biggest Victim of Gamergate," Failed Game Developer, Failed Congressional Candidate

Oh, we also have a new "advisor," Danielle Citron. They did a speaking gig at MIT together, and some podcast.

Danielle Keats Citron.
She recently joined BU law.. Quoting an ancient post but I was looking for information on this person because I recently found a marginally coherent attack on CDA s. 230 by this person, derived apparently from Congressional testimony. Wrote Hate Crimes in Cyberspace (in 2014) because of course. I was wondering if anyone had discussed her here for SJWism and a few months ago (a few months after moving to BU) attacking the underpinnings of the free Internet (thesis of her piece: CDA 230 invites unfortunate shit. Force sites to do "reasonable moderation" which is actually a legally brilliant end-round against the current-century state of the First Amendment. She is definitely not a stupid woman although not the world's best writer.) This is a theme (legal paper) for her.

Book chapters:
“Why Combating Online Abuse Is Good For Free Speech,” in Free Speech in the Digital Age. Oxford University Press
“Platform Justice: Content Moderation at an Inflection Point.” in Hoover Institute Aegis Series.
“The Surveillance Implications of Combatting Cyber Harassment.” in Cambridge Handbook of Surveillance Law.
"Protecting Sexual Privacy in the Information Age" in Privacy in the Modern Age. New Press. ISBN 978-1620971079

If John's supporters in tech weren't ignorant cucks, this would disturb them a lot. Of course, if they weren't ignorant cucks, why would they support John at all?

Citron's plan is actually really smart when you think about it. I started a thread just now over in i&T. Quoting myself from that post, they indtend to: repeal and replace §230 with something that will require "reasonable moderation", left undefined. Allow hate speech to qualify. Go after sites that don't police hate speech with charges that would've been unthinkable under §230, so jail Watkins and Hotwheels after the mosque attack. Have no need to make a first amendment issue. This is diabolically brilliant and no doubt the end game of the current discussion as it, like all the other current year nonsense, is political.

I'm not claiming she's not smart. I'm wondering why John's supporters don't see her endgame and despise it.

Aren't they troons and troon enablers who would love to find a nice juicy endround around the 1st Amendment as regards the hateful practice of misgendering (and saying other meanie things to protected classes?)

Some of them identify as members of the tech community, rather than as troon enablers. A lot of them support the EFF, which has made its opinion of Citron's ideas very clear.

OK. I'm no Wu expert so I'm going to defer. (But is voting for a troon troon-enabling?) Actually it's might not be that surprising. But still, making GamerGate, gay as that was, a political issue you'd think would turn off a lot of tech types, even people who might be inclined to vote for a liberal democrat, and I imagined it did. But my real experience in tech was 20 or so years ago. Feels like the EFF is the kind of organization that could have an old guard and a new guard, though, although they remain very strong on this issue and many other important ones. I'd hope that they don't go full on exceptional though.

To my astonishment, some of them do not seem to know John's a troon.

I don't think it's reasonable or consistent for an online free speech advocate to support Brianna Wu. However, there are people who self-identify as such among her supporters. I've looked over her donor list, and of the names I know, I believe many of them broadly support the EFF. I think these people are idiots in that regard. In the unlikely event that John were ever elected to office, he'd probably try to abridge or eliminate that freedom. I say "probably" because I am not sure who would bribe him first.

Re,tards not knowing/acknowledging that John is a troon is frankly the least astonishing part about his asspatters. It is incredibly easy using non-Kiwi sources to find out that John has accomplished jack fucking shit in his pathetic life.

Some of these people are not obviously retards, though. It's very strange.

your opinion @AprilRains how will the EFF crowd react to this, or rather, it's implications? are these people just mongs politically and meme up any candidate hypes up a tech background? do they not think of the implications?
I think they ought to kick up a fuss, but I can no longer claim to understand them. It's completely astonishing to me how many of her supporters probably identify with the EFF's ostensible goals.

"jealous of her success" yes that must be it John, a billionaire celebrity and President of the United States has accomplished nothing in his life and is driven by pure malice and bitterness, unlike unemployed college dropout John W. Flynt.

I'm no Trump fan, but if you put up a kid as the face of a political movement and have her speak to the UN and world leaders, she is fair game for criticism. Otherwise, that would be the go to for any political movement: stick someone you can't criticize at the forefront to shut down debate. Some of it may be mean spirited, but this is real life, not an after school special. Her parents maybe should have considered that before they let her do this.
