TGWTG Linkara / Lewis Lovhaug - HMMMMMMM? (Dead Gay Muppet Gangbang)

Pretty much. He won't actually try to get out of his comfort zone any more than he has to, because that's not what he's known for, and why should he review anything that he doesn't understand the backstory of? He already fails all he does regarding Power Rangers.

If you're going to do niche subject material you'd better be doing it really fucking well. The fact that innumerable Youtube channels have spawned and leapfrogged Linkara in just a few short years demonstrates that. The smaller a given fandom is I think the less space there is to be mediocre because it's more likely a handful of top creators will feed most viewers' hunger for any given topic.

The comic youtubers that leapfrogged Lewis did so by being primarily informational channels over review channels. This is due to the Marvel cinematic boom and casual moviegoers wanting to know more about comics. Secondarily, they also had better production values. Comic Book Girl 19 for instance is a more review-centric channel, but she also films with something better than a potato.

Neat! I've been digging around in the lower echelons of comics (the highest I go usually is Dark Horse, though there are exceptions) for stuff to read (Aftershock's Knight's Temporal and Coffin's Lady Death are some to have recently caught my interest), so hearing recommendations from other YouTubers with more experience than our nasty cockslut here is always a plus.

The problem with being a big fish in a small pond is that when a bigger fish comes along, there ain't enough water for the both of you.

The audience doesn't want angry reviews with character skits. They want information. This is why comicstorian and comics explained does quadruple Lewis's numbers with a low production cost. This is more like the small fish in the pond where the water turned salty and doesn't realize the hundreds of ocean dwelling fish around him are thriving.

Cutting ties with CA and anchoring his ship to the Z-list losers of #CTC was also a huge mistake.
As was marrying. Harambe is clearly spending all his money as soon as he makes it.
So many dumbass friends of mine ended up ruining their lives marrying at the wrong time in life because they thought that love would pay all the bills.

The thing is, if both spouses actually work and pay expenses together, living together can actually ease financial pressure considerably. Rent/house payments are generally pretty close to the same for two as for one, and is most people's biggest bill. Cows seem to have a pattern of marrying layabout freeloaders though.

The skits would, at least, be tolerable if they weren't just excuses for Linkara to do Mary Sue fanfiction. They really are power fantasies poorly disguised as "comedy".

Of all ex-Channel Awesome people, IMO, the only one that does skits right is Angry Joe.

Even if you hate him and his humor (and I don't blame you), you gotta admit he is the only one that has an audience that actually demanded more skits considering the backlash he got for ditching "angry reviews" for mere face cam reviews.

His secret is that his skits are actually made to make a point about the thing he is reviewing, and not to pass himself as a badass. Linkara can't just help himself.

See, this was why I first thought Linkara's scripts were okay; I thought the joke was he'd take comic plotlines and just be him riffing on it. Then I realized this doofus was serious.

I’m just thinking about how James Rolfe has the Nerd doing things like beating up Bugs Bunny and the whole Berenstain Bears review and how Polybius played like a psychological thriller. I’m not sure if Linkara was trying to do that with his story parts, but if he was, I think James did it better by just having the Nerd be like the straight man reacting to the shit around him. And also, James Rolfe has film skills Miles ahead of what Linkara has, despite what his ego tells him.

Something tells me Linkara would not approve of this.

A part of me thinks Linkara loves Power Rangers so much because it's so simple and it never challenges you.

Linkara liked to pretend with Lightbringer and his objectivist days that he had some kind of philosophical stance about good and evil, but in reality, he is all about cartoonish villains that want to take over the world and goody-good heroes. And he seems unable to comprehend anything more complex than "Villain wants to destroy the universe and that's bad."

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Power Ranger isn't deserving of Nostalgia or that it's bad, and maybe it does have some hidden gems there inspired by Super Sentai (The Japanese tend to be edgier with kids). But, overall, it's really as simple as it gets.

It knows it's a show for teenagers and it never tries to be anything else. I guess it's not wrong he still like the franchise, even after everyone has just moved on, but he really should've matured to more complex things by now.

I figured he's been tepid with Time Force and RPM because they have mature themes that challenge him.

I understand “hero of their own story”, and that’s probably an intermediate writing skill, but what I’m hearing is that Linkara can’t write a proper villain motivation to save his life that isn’t world domination for the sake of it a la Pinky and The Brain. I mean, I’ve written stuff (won’t power level or say what they are because don’t want people stealing my ideas or finding me) but I’ve done a villain that wanted takeover to one up a predecessor, and I’m thinking of one that involves antagonists just going loose in their final moments. I won’t say I’m better than Lewis or anything, but I can understand villains having motivations that they justify to themselves and doing things because “it amused me”.
