Okay, Kiwis, Grandma emails update: Was going to post screencaps last night, but held it off for her response, and I now legit have no idea how to reply back to her about this lol. She's a rambler, and while religious people have drawn parallels with Star Wars and Christ's teachings, I have no idea how to explain to her that having the metaphorical-Devil winning in Star Wars is not the way to do it to keep the Force (the balance of good and evil) balanced.

And it's already been established she's not a Star Wars fan, she just likes going to movies, but she keeps seeing bad movies.

I love my grandma, but I'm stumped. Do I just send J.J.'s box of mysteries at her or what?

I wish I could give you some helpful advice because I'm also slightly in a similar situation with someone I know. I love this person but sometimes it seems like they're in denial over their actual feelings regarding the Sequels. But fuck it, let them do them. 'Though if I wanted to throw them under the bridge, they do collect those Funko Pop figures.

The root of this rot is KK, but I remember reading some insider leak saying that the order to have TFA out by December 2015 came down from Iger, which led to Kathy firing Michael Arndt for asking for more time to write a script. That's where JJ was brought it.

Ardnt had already written the script. JJ came on and asked to do two rewrites.

Abrams then insisted that the script wasn't good enough. This was bullshit, he just wanted more control. Time only became an issue because of JJ's manipulative diva shit.

The fault, though, is Kennedy. Instead of siding with the quality writer(by extension Lucas), she wanted the "name" director.

She could have kept Ardnt's script and gotten a journeymen director(ala Favreau literally). But, she is a hack who acted like a hack....

The problem with journeyman directors is that Kennedy is a political animal, not a creative one. Treverrow, Miller & Lord, Edwards, and several others were all hired and fired (or de facto fired) because Kennedy had the final say and couldn't split the difference between the directors and her catlady writing department.

Hasbro has apparently put out a word of warning that they're not expecting their partner brands division to do well in this quarter and the next and that they've reallocated resources into their original brands.

So in case you're wonder why Hasbro will be pushing out more classic transformers including a new version of Optimus Prime (complete with a modernized version of the 1984 Trailer base) they're having to make up the difference from Star Wars. They're going with what sells.

This also means that if the new MLP doesn't work they're going to go back to FIM/Equestria Girls.

Also according to Disney canon, Anakin is technically Rey's uncle since Palpatine is his father now. So you know, the granddaughter of your abuser is also your niece, and now your niece and your grandson want to fuck. Even King Charles II would have a field day with this family tree.

Don't quote me on this and take this with a grain of salt etc etc but I think I recall hearing that the name Sheev originated from the Star Wars Underworld scripts and they've kept on mining those scripts for further material (Saw returning as a renegade Rebel, etc).

I think part of my response back to Grandma will be pointing out that as a writer (albeit a failed writer--her books are long out-of-print and she never got an audience), how could she ignore plot-holes and bad character motivations and just watch the screen make pretty colors? Does she not appreciate lore and world-building? I think I'll also ask her that out of all the movies she's seen this year, which are/is her most favorite and why--and will she remember it next year or even five years from now? Because she tends to buy DVD/Blu-Rays of movies she enjoyed, but she's not really big on watching movies at home unless a cable channel's airing one. They're mostly just there for us grandkids to pick out from to watch, but they've otherwise been gathering dust on her shelves.

It looks like I'll be able to see her on Christmas Eve anyway and we'll just take our conversation verbally that way, but I think she just really likes hearing back from me regardless of what she and I ramble on about. But it's still kinda frustrating to see that she completely agrees that Hollywood has been a cesspool for decades (she remembers when the Oscars were fun to watch back in the day), yet continues to give them her money. Maybe it's denial or because movies are her last favorite hobby to enjoy since she knows the day will swiftly come when she won't get to see whatever movie she wants to see (because she'll end up in a home or something--she and Grandpa are pushing 80, after all).

Meanwhile, I have no idea what my little cousin will think of the film. Dad's been the one who's taken him to see these movies, but I don't think he's been all that excited for them from what I've gathered. Think he just puts up with it because "My uncle's cool, he spends time with me unlike my own dad" tbh.

Oh, my brothers are on the A-list whatever-the-fuck for AMC, so they're seeing the movie for a one o'clock showing Thursday. Crazy bastards.
