Is anyone else getting the impression that Glinner is another of those people Jake thought he could use to attain fame and fortune? But because he doesn’t want to bang Glinner, Glinner gets the full character assassination. The way he talks about Glinner reminds me of a dude who got turned down and then acts like she was crazy and he was never into her anyway.

This is also why Jake is so vague about his hateboner for Chelsea and why he constantly denies his character assassination of Soha - this can turn the NPcs against him, and then suddenly they won't be so keen on propping up Jake's lies anymore.
Conversely, it's why Jake needs his own trans narrative as a shield. If he were openly acknowledged as who he really is, Zoe could have Holowka'd him years ago.

Maybe it was the Glinner connection that made Jake think that he liked jokes was also an adept comedian, he always latches on to other peoples accomplishments or skills(or woes).

There's some hubris right there. Jake "gets" comedy, so all that is holding him back from standup success is lack of access to open mic nights to demonstrate his skills.
I suppose that's the way everything works in his head. He's great at everything, it's just that absurd levels of concatenating happenstance have left him a sad, basement dwelling gnome.
Happenstance or the intervention of mysterious enemies. The common denominator is that none of his failures can be his fault.

He does 'get' comedy. After all, he made a pretty funny joke right afterwards... the idea that he has "no problem being the butt of other people's jokes" while he spends HOURS a day reporting people for the crime of laughing at him on twatter... I mean, he IS joking, right?

Jake is about the worst person imaginable to take up comedy. He has no life experience and no understanding of how the world works. He has no sense of humour - he treats everything as a catastrophe and the closest I’ve ever seen him come to making jokes is self-pitying sarcasm.
