So what can we learn from this stupid shit so far?
1. Woke shit will never, ever sell ever. It doesn't matter how much you want to pander to the 'progressive' crowd of feminists and beta males; shit is still going to be shit no matter what you name it.
2. A Mary Sue/Gary Stu-type of character isn't going to make audiences care about your female characters. There's a good reason why the fanfiction that is known as 'My Immortal' got so infamous because the main character of that infamous fanfiction is a Mary Sue in every sense of the term.
3. The people that worked on writing these movies are total hacks and if you ask me if I was running Disney then I would pretty much fire them on the spot for costing the company a lot of money.
4. Disney deserves what will happen to them when the fans see this stupid shit for themselves too.
These would be my 4 lessons
1) Recognize what your work is and who it'll likely satisfy and be fairly consistent about it. These movies have clearly shown that LucasFilm clearly doesn't understand or quite frankly doesn't want to understand and gauge its audience (outside people with actual political/personal acumen and charisma like Trevorrow and Filoni) as to what it wants or doesn't want, the key example of this being none other than TLJ.
2) Don't actively piss on your fans (current or even former), specifically meaning don't actively antagonize them via twitter, off-the-cuff comments in interviews, etc. (could add patently retarded story writing to the list but that's a bit up for debate). The idea here is not so much to placate or please fans, but simply not to pour gas on any fire you may have caused. If you screwed up or the fans just don't like what you've done, just take the hit even if some of the charges are unfair and disgusting. Lucas was able to take the criticism without lashing out against the audience. Why can't you?
3) Stop thinking you can somehow change a few little things in established canon/franchises and/or continue such and suddenly think you'll make bank (especially when you don't show any respect to the audience). This probably is one of the worse, most egotistical mindset we've witnessed throughout this decade. This ridiculous idea in the whole US entertainment industry where these imbeciles actually think they can just reboot or continue stories that were either the best that they could be and/or were conclusive. I don't care what anybody says, but the original Star Wars trilogy at least in terms of movies were both conclusive (again I stress in terms of movies, not games, books, or comics) and almost the best they could be at the time. How could possibly think of continuing such a trilogy and make as much money as they did especially since there would have been no way of "continuing" that legacy without defenestrating it?
4) Stop either micromanaging projects and/or deciding things by committee especially when identity politics gets involved. That doesn't mean let someone like Rian Johnson do whatever they want, it just means that you shouldn't stress over minor things like whether there wasn't enough (insert minority here) representation. Your first priority is to make sure the story makes sense and the people will enjoy it. Everything else comes last (if at all).
