Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

That's a bad comparison because the Star Wars Holiday Special was just a low budget and poorly written television special that was aired only once.

This Star Wars movie however is a movie with a multi-million dollar budget that I'm sure that they spent a lot of money on the actors, the scripts, and the special effects too.

So they probably spend a few thousand dollars in today's money to produce the Star Wars Holiday Special while this shit I'm sure costed millions to even produce.
If the earlier leaks are to be believed (and I see no reason not to at this point), between shooting twice as much footage as they needed in the first round with the hopes of saving it in editing, and the at least 2 additional rounds of reshoots, plus marketing, I wouldn't be surprised if this movie cost close to a billion after all that was said and done.

Well, we did have that guy in the thread whose friend was a consultant for Lucasfilm.

He said they were intentionally tanking the merchandise so Disney could get better deals....

It seems like they are moving away from Hasbro and replacing them with Mattel...

Oh please tell me you remember what page that was on because I want to read that. They seriously wanted to ruin the franchise just for better merchandising deals?

I wanna see your "Autistic" ratings because I need to purge my thoughts on Kylo Ren, the most horribly wasted opportunity of a villain. First off I definitely have my gripes with the Force Awakens. But to its credit I don't think the three leads are that bad, in fact I'd say for introductions they were serviceable. Rey was a tad bit Mary Sue-ish but there's no reason to hate her and when she gets Luke's Lightsaber it's emotionally satisfying. Finn's story of betraying his "family", the morally abhorrent Stormtroopers is an interesting side story. These two were wasted (but not horribly mistreated) with The Last Jedi & ROS because they didn't get any new arcs to go thru and grow as heroes. Oh and btw Poe Dameron should have definitely been killed at the opening of TFA (as initially intended) but that's another topic.

Kylo Ren was the star of TFA, he's the most interesting character. He shows the most range and was given the most memorable scene where he deceitfully murdered Han Solo. Adam Driver was able to visually communicate the fall to evil that Lucas wanted (and most definitely failed) to show when he directed Anakin's downfall in Episodes 2 & 3.

Maybe I'm just thinking the best of JJ Abrams & Lawrence Kasden (writers of TFA), but I sense that Kylo Ren's story was meant to be a Star Wars retelling of Faust. Where Anakin was born into tragedy and a constant victim of it Kylo Ren was given it all with a powerful loving family. But he wanted obscene power, he wanted to be Darth Vader. And to be on the Dark Side you must lose all that you love. And he willingly is the perpetrator of his own tragedy & suffering.

At the end of TFA Snoke tells Kylo that he should return so he can complete his training, this to me signifies that we were meant to see what it takes to become a true Sith Lord. Where Master Yoda's training was a training of discipline and learning of zen-like serenity the training of a Sith Lord should be a cruel tortuous affair where one would learn to shed away all weaknesses of compassion and only live for one's self interest. The way I see it Kylo Ren should have been the ultimate evil in this trilogy, more evil than even Palpatine who ultimately at least sought to have control & order in the Galaxy. Kylo's ultimate conclusion should have been wanting to destroy everything, becoming a figure akin to Darth Nihilus in Obsidian's classic "Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords."

Ultimately though all of this was clearly abandoned, because Kathleen Kennedy wanted to have some Twilight-style YA Romance garbage put in. Kylo Ren is just left a mess of contradictions, he wants to "kill the past" as Rian infamous wrote but he goes back to worshiping his Dead Grandfather. He's evil enough that he murders his own family and slaughters innocents but really just loves Daisy Ridley's sweet ass (I can't argue with him there that girl has an exquisite ass). At the end of the day what could have been a very interesting and tragic character was left a total mess. You deserved better Adam Driver, everyone deserved better than making the final villain a bad guy who got his ass handed to him 35+ years ago.

Remember when planet explosions were special?
And the planet busting superweapon returns in the third episode of the saga, boy, that sure doesn't sound familiar.

Also damn, the first Final Order is really putting effort into its new diversity hires, is Disney trying to tell us something?

Well, I am heading off Kiwis.

Off into Hell.

I go by myself, because bringing my family into this would bring nothing but shame and depression.

The theater I booked has next to ZERO seats filled. The worst part is that it's a rather popular theater to go to as well, so with THAT knowledge...

I'm away.

When the localized mental trauma screening film is over, I will provide thoughts and insights for those that need them.

Bon voyage, and best of luck in your future endeavors, all.
YOU 👏 DON'T 👏 ACTUALLY 👏 HAVE 👏 TO 👏 WATCH 👏 THIS 👏 FUCKING 👏 MOVIE

General is the keeper of this thread. He will gladly point you in the direction...

It was very illuminating. He also said the pandering to the female demographic was largely to secure their declining princess line....

Disney bought Star Wars for boys, but decided to take a detour(this was before Frozen happened)...

I guess it backfired in the end. It also explains the scambling for male-centric projects as of late....

Ya know the ones that people seem to give a shit about: Mandalorian, Fallen Order, Obi-wan show...

I still don't get the Cassian Ando show nobody wants, but you get my point...

So has it been confirmed that Matt Smith has been cut out of the film entirely? If so, what a lucky break for him.

Still gets a (presumably) massive pay day, without his reputation being saddled to what surely would have been one of the worst parts of a godawful movie.

Huh...guess it makes sense that a Cenobite would be present for this nightmare in order to harvest all the pain and suffering the audience feels

Ah you had better links and images. I had low energy text.

But with our powers combined.....

Rip Van Winkle (1819) have better claim to being first isekai (time variant) protagonist than Dorothy.
Not really, it's just a guy that goes into a coma and wakes up in the future of his own world years later. So it's not really an isekai.

For it to be an isekai, the protagonist has to end up in a completely different world that they are not native to it.

Something which always tickled me about the first order was the subtext that race didnt matter because all would be absorbed into the mono-culture. Kinda like what Holywood is trying to do to the world.

Part of me considers that this actually may be applicable here.

Remember the movie the 'Producers'? Where the main characters borrowed so heavily and prayed the movie to tank and thereby kept all that sweet sweet money.

Could, in all the 'hype' leading up to TROS have many loans, guarantees, bank notes and all other hollywood accounting shenanigans attached to it and then have it fail to meet 'expectations' and wipe out Disney's debt from all the other movies it propped up throughout the year? Compare it to being married, your spouse, your kids have debt, you transfer all that debt to your name, you declare bankruptcy, they walk away debt free. 4D chess or "Creative Use of Game Mechanics"?

Short answer, no. Longer answer, no way in hell.
Studios will play some behind the scenes fuckfuck games, but nothing that would fuck with the bottom line to the tune of 300 million dollar production budget after the mess that was Solo. Now you will see a lot of other films' budgetary fuckups being buried in the dumpster fire that is Plan 9, but that's a byproduct not the intention.

Never ascribe to malice what can be attributed to incompetence.

Remember that according to some people Star Wars is a movie for kids, well, if I was a kid I would be pissing myself for having to look at those monstrosities.
