Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Ten pages behind, but I got a Grandma update: I hadn't emailed her back yet, was trying to figure things out on how to reply back (she ended up writing back a second email to clear things up, and apologize a bit). And she thought I was mad at her (I wasn't) so she called to personally say "I apologize, you were right all along" since she saw the reviews and read comments that backed up what I was telling her. Now she's real hesitant about seeing it even though she is a completionist (now that she realized how it was pronounced, we're weird lol). I've offered to bring over the cam-rip for Christmas Eve, but she turned it down.

So I'd say that's a mission accomplished. I saved my grandma in the nick of time.

Good job. I couldn't save my mom. She gave it a B+, but said she forgot how all the characters were related to each other.

Would I be wrong to say that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has a better plot than Episodes 7-9?
With how much of a mess the series is because of the new trilogy, people should be allowed to choose their own canon. Frankly, Disney deserves that treatment.

Those Kiwis old enough to have seen the nine films in the studio or shortly after release in other forms (video, DVD, etc.) could probably share plenty of firsthand stories about the anticipation and excitement surrounding news that another SW film was coming out. For example, I think half my sixth grade class couldn't wait to order the book version of Return of the Jedi once it was an option in the monthly book sale thing our school participated in. Once we got our copies, our free time was abuzz with discussions of favorite scenes, surprises, and a key difference between the hardcover and paperback version (The former showed Luke's head being zapped by Palpatine's lightning whereas the latter had Luke edited out -- possibly to keep the image kid/PG-13 friendly).

In short, there was plenty of excitement because much of the audience (children) had no concept of trilogies and liked news about a great, fun, awesome, etc. film coming out with another installment for lack of a better word.

I still recall plenty of buzz when Episodes I & II came out, even if the prequels had their issues. Sure, every film has them -- even favorite ones -- but older fans tend to look at films more critically and be more aware of on-screen things that just don't feel right... the stuff they wouldn't be aware of as kids due to their youth. While I can't recall too much of a fervent buzz over Episode III, perhaps that's because the ending was obvious even before the film was released and people just wanted to see how that ending played out.

The ST, however, seems to have buzz that faded drastically with each film's release. TFA generated enough because people wanted to see Disney's first stab at a SW film. Many were alienated by its being a retreat of ANH, but some still waited to see what the next film was like. TLJ, however, killed a lot of long-time fans' interest with its horrid story telling and lack of cohesion with existing SW lore and (most importantly) the previous film. Apart from diehard fans and the usual shills, I've yet to see anyone unironically interested seeing Episode IX.

TL;DR - Disney not only killed the franchise, but has consistently killed off fan interest in the short time it's owned the SW IP *sigh* . They'll be hard-pressed to win back fans further alienated by Episode IX even if their next SW work hits a home run.

I am a millennial (though only just) and I remember being a teenager when The Phantom Menace was coming out. Merch for it was ubiquitous and manifold. Every cereal box had an Episode I tie in thing on the back like a board game, fact file, and/or an Episode I trinket inside. Lego Star Wars Episode I was floor to ceiling on toy aisles. My classmate had a Podracing themed filofax type affair. Star Wars Racer was the most eagerly pushed vidya of the summer. That poster with the child Anakin casting Darth Vader's shadow was everywhere. Your friendly local fast food joints had Darth Maul or Qui-Gon trinkets with every kid's meal or similar. There was even, I recall, a Star Wars Episode I pinball machine which rather than a lil' dot matrix display had a full colour CRT screen in it beaming down onto the playfield.

Everyone, but everyone, was excited to see it. Yeah, it wasn't as good as the original trilogy and Jar Jar Binks was heavily execrated, but people still queued up to see Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith so it certainly wasn't a franchise killer.

I interrupt this thread to remind you that you must CONSUME

So going forward this is what's gonna happen:

No mention of Rey at the Parks
No Major New Trilogy dudes in costume with Kylo-Ren being the possible exception
Hasbro will not be making Disney Wars figures outside of Mando guys
All current character specific ships and droids have a generic alternative name and deco
Lego is releasing more OT stuff than Disney Wars
Mandalorean figures are fucking selling like hotcakes and some are blowing past the $100 sold for a single black series figure compared to 3 cent Rose Ticos that they still can't get rid of
3.75 Vintage Collection has gone from canceled to probably being brought back under a new name like how Transformers Classics went from that to Transformers Universe to the current long standing Generations.

what a fucking 180, you could get whiplash from something like this.

They put all their eggs in the wokest possible basket and now they have no idea what the fuck to do.

It’s almost incredible how it seems like they were 100% blindsided by Mandalorian’s success, to the point where they completely missed the window to cash in on Baby Yoda. Instead of having even a single plush toy or figure related to their most easily marketable creation in years ready to absolutely take over the holiday season, they... completely dropped the ball and are currently scrambling to set up merchandising opportunities that won’t pay off until well after the holidays.

They were far too focused on trying to re-capture the BB-8 hype from four years ago by making ten different remote controlled versions of that new D-0 thing that is literally voiced by JJ himself, which you can expect to all be filling many new landfills within the next couple of months.
Would I be wrong to say that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has a better plot than Episodes 7-9?

Fallen Order actually got me to care about its characters, something that I can’t say for even a single new introduction in the ST. By that alone, it’s far better.

Seriously? How the fuck could they possibly not have a Baby Yoda toy of any kind? Everyone fucking loves that thing.

I checked 10 pages back or so, and it wasn't mentioned, so I hope I'm not too late: Fortnite is now part of Star Wars canon.

Look at this brand/product synergy. Very cool.

Because Disney overlooks what fans actually love towards the franchise. The fact that Fallen Order is one of my new favorite Star Wars game in recent history, shows that they obviously are looking a gift horse in the mouth. Instead of focusing on creating new interesting characters, or better yet, looking at what fans love in the Legends category. They instead focus to much time on adding current RL politics into the Star Wars media. All for "diversity" or what ever the hell they want to call it.

I'm a zoomer, so I wasn't around for the OT, but I DEFINITELY remember the PT and the hype surrounding it. In particular, I remember being ridiculed by classmates (or at least my nerd friends) for not having seen Revenge of the Sith. Obviously, it's very intriguing to me how the targets of ridicule have reversed.

I have no idea. Besides a jigsaw puzzle and a goddamn Funko Pop that are both releasing in January, you won’t be seeing any actual merch of it until fucking May.

I honestly don’t even think they were paying attention to what Mandalorian was doing, instead making sure that the Target-exclusive $100 version of the electronic JJ robot could chase a ball around.
