He wrote 137 pages about his life with a year-by-year account detailing his conception, birth weight, various birthday parties, his adventures with Pokemanz and World of Warcraft, ill-treatment by "popular skateboarder kids", a tantrum he had because his parents took him to Morocco and he couldn't play WoW, his first masturbation experience, how he created multiple facebook accounts to stalk a boy who was unsurprisingly more popular with women than him, why all this means that women should not be allowed to choose their own partners... and he just doesn't get why he can't get a girlfriend. He perpetually answers his own question. "I will punish all females for the crime of depriving me of sex" "I am a kissless virgin" "How dare those girls give their love and sex to those other men and not me"... 
I feel sorry for the families of the few victims, the worst thing must be knowing that they died at the hands of such an embarassing individual.
Scarily, I know a lot of dudebros who sound like young Eliot Rodger - they are all whiny, identify with anime villains, play too much WoW, have strained relationships with their mothers, refer to themselves as "gentlemen" and frequently wonder aloud why no girls like them, despite the answer being plainly obvious to everyone that isn't them. One of them lusted after me for a long while - took me to the local supermarket (I was 16 at the time and wanted him to buy me alcohol - he was 21, alarm bells should've rung then), and when I entered a relationship with someone else some months later, he said "I thought that was a date!" and sent a long message to my partner (who is still my partner to this day!) about how he broke some imaginary rule by not asking him if it was okay to date me, because he 'saw me first' or some such. Thankfully I think the vast majority of these individuals are too wimpy to go beyond fantasising about inflicting harm on pretty girls and their JERK boyfriends, Rodger is an extreme case.

Yeah, this little asshole did no one any favors; he's dead, whereas plenty of decent people who happen to be awkward or reticent get swept up in the blowback. And without the clarity of hindsight, it's hard to tell from the outside who's going through an unfortunate phase and blowing off steam, versus who will actually stab you 90 times, if they are expressing themselves using substantially similar language. A mess for sure.

He stabbed his roommate, the one he accused of stealing, 93 times in total.
We are lucky the 'tard was only able to kill 6. If he had his way many more would have died.
Sadly I don't even blame his parents anymore, they did everything reasonable to help him over his condition but in the end Elliot's over whelming ego and sense of entitlement was too much.
Yes they did spoil his ass to the point of him throwing tempter tantrums and crying jags into his 20s but I think something deep inside was broken right from the begining.
If he didn't kill in his twenties I think he would have become a serial killer in his 40s and the body count would have been much higher.
Really in this kind of shit there is no clear blame, just a sense of loss for everyone involved.

I have had my own "blowing people away" fantasies when I was really down, but it was just that, blowing off steam with my thoughts.

A passive approach. He expected girls to approach him and do the work, get to know him. He probably had a few girls interested in him, but he never pursued them. Possibly this is linked to the intense need for approval he displayed. His ego perhaps required they approach him, because it would be more flattering. You seek a prize, the prize doesn't seek you out.
Second was the fantasy aspect and unreasonable standards. He specifically wanted a good looking blonde girl. I think this was driven more by an urge to attain status, to have a "trophy" than just a genuine preference, because it seems in the rich California culture blonde girls have a kind of status to them.
