Tech reporter Peter Bright has been arrested for soliciting sex with children online. He was employed by Ars Technica until recently.

A federal complaint alleges that Bright sought to molest a 7- and 9-year-old and met with an undercover agent for this purpose, at which point he was arrested. It also states that Bright claimed to be in a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old. He is currently being held without bail.

According to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, an undercover FBI special agent made contact with Bright on KinkD, a social media fetish platform, on April 18.

Bright, using the handle “randomanon,” had responded to a message the agent posted a day prior in which she purported to be a mother seeking to connect with people who could teach her children about “birds and the bees.”

The complaint states that in subsequent messages, the agent informed Bright that she had a 7-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son.

At Bright’s urging, the two then began chatting via WhatsApp, which continued for a few weeks. At times using euphemisms, Bright reportedly wrote of molesting both children and raping the 7-year-old. He also allegedly sent pictures of his penis, and photos of test results showing he did not have any sexually transmitted diseases.

I have never been locked up, but I have watched and read a fair bit on prison culture. Pedos are at the bottom of the food chain. Even in a society of killers, thieves and psychos, a lot of them still draw a line of morality at hurting children. Molesters or rapists are also not highly regarded, even if they only went after adults. There is also probably an aspect of the crime being one that is too easy, and can't be respected.

As others have pointed out, pedophiles and rapists are targeted in prison because other convicts tend to view their crimes as despicable even by the standards of condemned criminals. Plus, in the more violent maximum security places like San Quentin, Powhatan, or Attica, a good way for new guys to get the protection of the gangs is to prove their worth by attacking sex offenders.

Every once in a while, you might see a sex offender who gets put in a minimum security facility and does okay like Mad Thad. But that's because nobody in a minimum security facility wants to cop a charge that gets them placed in a more dangerous facility and actual rapists and child molesters don't get put in minimum security as a general rule.

Given that DrPizza was found with a lot of CP and actively tried to solicit sex with small children, he probably isn't going to get placed in a minimum security facility unless he rats out a lot of bigger fish and gets a good plea deal, but he may get placed in protective custody at a medium security place, where he has a shot at narrowly surviving if he keeps his head down. Seeing as this guy is a woke pseudo-intellectual soy beard, he'll probably get his shit punched in even in protective custody.

I can't speak first-hand, but IRL people tell me that he isn't going to be well-liked (duh).

I used to read Ars quite a bit, and his smugness always really rubbed me wrong. He was one of the few authors besides "Dr. Gitlin" who would get in the comments section and snark it up on the regular, though he was far smarmier and more openly autistic. You can't tell me that he's dropped that attitude as soon as he got locked up. All he has to do is get smart-assed with one guard, one time, and you can guess a hundred satisfying ways that eventually plays out.

The government also has evidence that he communicated with 2 girls aged 17 and 14 via email. He attempted to solicit sex with at least one of them, telling the 14 year old, "you need to persuade your sister that she needs to come over so I can help her first". During this conversation he "jokes" that he would not fuck Rebecca Black (who was 13 at the time) because she was "too old". He also "jokes" that one of his friends on Facebook posted a picture of his 13 year old daughter and he had to hold himself back from saying "I'd hit it". He then links to the photo and says that she looks "ripe enough".

Anyone with a fully-functioning brain can see through his bullshit attempts at a defence.
