I think I get your point however, and it’s an interesting one. Before Jon left, they did make a lot more risqué jokes that would be really offensive if they made the same type of joke to their audience now. I remember a few times Barry had to censor them for like 3-5 seconds or more at a time because Jon or Arin made a racist joke, or a rape joke. And Jon’s painful joke about shooting a hole in Suzy and Arin’s homemade gingerbread house.

... Not saying those jokes were good or better than their current humor, but they took a lot more risks back then and sometimes it paid off. I think Jon was the backbone of the show, he kept the humor and conversations unpredictable and humorous a lot of the time. Arin still walked on eggshells a lot about certain topics, like making fun of a woman or something, but he was a bit more bearable then. (Seriously, has anyone else ever noticed how weird Arin acted whenever a woman in a video game came into conversation?)

It's not a question about how do they draw in the crazies (any fanbase will have a cluster of loons lurking about); it's the fact that the Grumps actively encourage the crazies (i.e. - the Lovelies) by ignoring their toxic behavior and - at times - rewarding them for it.

Fanbases are always exceptional, it's a matter of what you encourage. The Game Grumps have pushed away anyone that cares about quality and they've abandoned their edgy roots so all that's left are casual fans and psychos. So you see a lot more of the spergs than the 12 year olds who just consume whatever's in their recommended page.

At first, it was video games being played by your favorite online entertainers. (Arin and Jon) These days, I think people come for Danny now since Arin doesn't create anymore. He just tears down shit or chases the trending dragon, which is sad.

You know those "hot" stoner college hippies with a guitar that all the girls fall for? That's Danny to these women. He also has a chill tone to his voice compared to Arin who raises his voice and gets hostile randomly. (Or drives a joke so far into the ground it's in China.) Why they still watch NOW given this has been a BAAAAD year for Grump shit is anybody's guess.

The best part of that video Airn was making Fun of people who make fun of people who make overreaction to capture the AVGN audience. Also you could tell they where having fun acting like a bunch of childish adults which is kinda infectious. I think some of the early Grump success came from them doing daily uploads. Their videos were pretty short, so it is easy to throw them on every day to eat up 20-30 minutes. Even if the quality goes downhill, a lot of fans keep watching because it became part of their routine. With that many videos/having watched them for so long, it's also easy for things to blur together. Some of the may acknowledge the recent videos weren't great but they keep watching with the hope of it getting better, not realizing that "recent" in this case means months or even years. It's basically the same mentality of watching a TV show that you used to like even though it went downhill ages ago. Except unlike TV shows, there's no network to cancel them so...it just keeps on going and going.

As for the diehard fans, I think it is just a case of sad/exceptional people who treat the casual format of Grumps a little too personally. For these fans, it isn't watching a video of Arin and Dan hanging out...it's watching a video where Arin and Dan are hanging out with them.

With Arin shifting into more PC and shilling, it really just turned into an autistic screeching lounge when Arin is just making stupid voices and screaming to pass as comedy. Dan just sucks it up since he's the yes-man(with Arin being his boss) so it just lets Arin run rampant do whatever he wants. I think the focus on that demographic was Arin would begin to embrace what the "lovelies" would post of them and encourage it, so it just allows more of them to continue posting and Arin gets the revenue for merch and the like. I'm sure rn they view Arin and Dan as a ship and would love to live in their fantasy world, especially when things like the Ten Minute Power Hour have live footage of them being together on a frequent basis.

Supermega and Oneyplays enjoy making off the cuff comments which make that comedy feel like the old Arin and Jon days, so I feel it's a big reason people left GG to watch those instead. Prime example is the Grumpcade episodes featuring Oneyplays. Like you watch those two episodes and it's essentially Oneyplays episodes with Arin Hanson noises in the background, they just control the show and that's what makes those episodes 10x funnier then any modern GG one.

Gotta give props to Matt from Supermega for editing GG for such a long time though. Some of the jokes they put it in that actually pissed off Dan were insanely funny. I love the one during one of the Mario Kart episodes where Dan said to basically post bad shit on the screen and it was NSP's latest album. That shit had me rolling.

Wowww, all those people for a Let's Play channel? I think people like the Dream Daddy crew and the merch artists should be considered freelancers, not employees. Freelancers are paid per job, employees are paid on the regular.
