Oh yeah, I am absolutely a bleeding heart animal lover. The sight of abused animals moves me to tears. I think animal abuse laws need to be harsher because abusing animals is an evil act in itself.

Yeah like food aside (since we technically need that to live; please don't drag me into arguments over whether every human on the planet can survive on a vegan diet), people who hurt animals purely for the sake of hurting them are entirely capable of turning that abuse onto a human being. To hurt something for the sake of causing harm (not just, like, out of negligence or willful ignorance) requires some degree of awareness regarding how capable that animal is of feeling pain. A lot of times sadists who do this sort of activity do it with the intention of finding some visible sign of suffering in order to feel gratified; in the case of zoophiles who rape animals, their interest is more into sexual response rather than physical suffering but it's still based in coercing a specific reaction out of another living being to feed their desire.
Sadists and paraphiles often consider passivity or lack of response a challenge, which often leads to extreme escalation with animals (who by nature hide their pain because it's necessary for their survival). However, a complete lack of response isn't as interesting to them, and they'll go to more creative extremes to get that satisfaction. This is why so many zoophiles/zoosadists prefer mammalian victims over reptiles or fish; unless they can fabricate a situation that would cause said animals to respond in a manner that would indicate pain in a visible or auditory sense (like, as an example from the zoosadism vids, dropping a snake into a boiling pot of water so that it thrashes while it's dying) they don't get the gratification they're after that they would with an animal that screams or cries.
This sort of behavior often leads to victimizing humans down the line. Human fear response is much more visible and tangible thing for other humans to observe and understand, even in subtle fashions, because we're hard-wired to pick up on body language from our own kind. Tl;dr: The primary reason SnakeThing and co. aren't hurting people and are instead hurting animals is entirely because animals are easier for them to access and control, but while they can glean some sadistic gratification from torturing them as long as they continue to feed their impulses they will, eventually, escalate to humans as they get bored.

Not glossing over the other unfortunate reasons for why it got dropped, but I'm making a note to start bringing this up as an example as to why using autism as an excuse to get away with stupid shit does much more harm than "good". This fucker had already harmed someone before he laid a hand on his nephews and animals (unless he was doing this shit in high school, too). He's not a 'tard who can't understand right from wrong, he knew exactly what he was doing, and because he got away with it once under the pretense of being autistic, he thought he could get away with such heinous criminal acts and play the 'tism card. He's a moron for not thinking about pleading insanity in place of "I have autism, please be nice to me", but thank God that didn't come up/be taken into consideration.
Oh, and of course he's shown no remorse for what he's done. He's not a human at all, he's even lower than dirt. Thank Christ for the legal system playing hardball on this case and locking this sick fuck up. I hope he gets a shiv shoved up his ass sometime in the next few years.

So from my understanding, they've waived the 60 day period because they need more time? The sixty day period for a trial was granted, makes me question whether this is a case on a federal scale or not with it being overrode, unless I'm thinking too deeply. On top of that, they're also seeking an upward departure which means they're aggrivating the circumstances of the case to be more severe so they can get a harsher sentence.
Thank god that this moron committed these crimes in a state with laws that don't fuck around. I wish I was a fly on the wall when they denied his motion for release.

You want it to be State, instead of Federal. State is still ran like a jungle. Federal has been known to keep inmates with "sensitive" cases with special needs prisoners, so it's not out of the ordinary to put them in protection pacts. I'm really hoping it's bad, but I know the system has a tendency of protecting people like this. Beta Cowards that plead guilty are almost always going to make it despite popular belief. It's usually the guys with mid-tier offenses like hitting a woman that get royally fucked over.
