The woman she adopted him from already had too many kids for her to care for, so that is what drove her to "adopt" out her kid. I never fully understood the whole "my friend went down and got the baby for me and flew him back to the states with her" thing. You would think that would trigger all sorts of red flags. But that was just one of many inconsistencies that never jived with the stories she and Ali told.

She was always vague about the details, but said that at the time she adopted him she was running a home daycare and making good money, so maybe the mom thought she could provide better? I think that the birth family was socially related to her ex, but not blood related. I do think they are the same ethnicity, based on photos I saw of her and her ex, but I never really asked because she was already with Ali when I knew her. The intermediary was a mutual friend from the same country, but like I said, the part with her getting him here was sketchy AF. As much as she loved to talk about her history, the way she obtained J was always super vague and didn't make sense to me. I always assumed his status here was not 100% kosher because she refused to apply for Medicaid for him even though she was on it herself, the only reason I could come up with for that would be fear he would be flagged by immigration or something. Not an issue now that Oregon is a sanctuary state, but back then I guess it could have happened, not that I would expect her to be intelligent enough to recognize that fully.

Yes, because as with everything, it's about Amy. She doesn't give a shit about securing the rights US citizenship would confer on this child, she only cares about her rights.

Signing guardianship papers between citizens of two different nations is no less difficult than signing adoption papers. So why is Amy lying about him being legally adopted?

I put no fault on his family origin. They saw a chance to give this child a future in the wider world. I am equally as certain they had zero idea what an absolute garbage monster Amy is. Thanks a lot for the info. We'd love to hear anything else you know.

An aside- when Amy was lying about the date of her contact with child protective services -which happened after Ali came here in 2012- she called us 'dumb dumbs' because she claimed the contact happened in 2000, ha ha stupids!!!! So... what happened in 2000 that CPS paid Amy a visit?

Not just welfare benefits but problems getting financial aid for college, certain careers and a mortgage for a home. Even if the kid has the wherewithal to rise above his upbringing and want to make something of himself and live a normal middle class life, Amy's refusal to legally adopt him has basically stymied him from being anything other than a poor, uneducated dullard like mama.

I don't think he is a LPR. She went through that process with Ali and it seemed to be a mystery to them. They were given a HARD time by USCIS. Like even harder than usual for coming from a "red flag" marriage fraud country.
