I don't know if he funded all of it but quite a bit, I think he alluded to it in one of his videos (either the one that was posted in this thread earlier or a recent one about the gamejournos trying to take him down since last August, they were ready to attack him on a personal level by bringing a spotlight on Maria and imply that Richard was a tranny chaser).

On the one hand, I caught some serious feels about the grandma story. (Bit of a powerlevel, but for context, I had some really shitty teachers who would not only refuse to help me understand the material by presenting it in another way, but also refused to believe in the 'tism diagnosis from U of M. I was called lazy, and constantly told to work harder. Can confirm, when you're doing the best you can and that shit gets dumped on you, it leaves some serious damage.)
On the other, 30-45k as "minimum wage" is absolutely ridiculous. Obviously, they were spending it all on the drugs and botched surgeries, but it's also a pretty common fact that hospitals will not send you to collections for things like necessary surgery, bloodwork, etc, and will also help you work out payment plans. In the US, you can let most medical bills sit or make small payments on them and still receive care if you need it during that time. Say you have outstanding medical bills for something or another and then get really sick with pneumonia or get into an accident and have to go into the ER- they're gonna treat you and make sure you live to the best of their ability. Many people think they won't, however. Which leads to stuff like this. Remillia probably knew they had too much, if it wasn't deliberate, and decided to just ride it out instead of going to the ER, and as such, have joined the statistics.

Not once has SRS led to a genuinely happy life. Time and time again you see people going through with it, then either killing themselves down the line or living as a shell of their former selves. The fact that an inhumane practice like SRS isn't outlawed worldwide really turns my stomach.

People should only do it when they're actually old enough to come to a decision on their own terms. Sadly parents are gonna be there and I'm sure to them it's a foreign ass concept, but it's best to watch and observe without being like "THIS IS YOUR REAL SELF" Because chances are like phases in life it could just be a fad, and you'll grow out of it or just have different opinions.
When they're old enough and want to take that risk of surgery (with their own willing consent as an adult) then they can do whatever they hell they want. But parents forcing that shit on their kids early (and over something as simple as that) is just actually horrifying.
