As is predictable, people reacted to the tweet about reproduction by bringing up a TED talk about disorders of sexual development. This just annoys the $#$% out of me.

Here's the thing - when it comes to the actual biological function of the reproductive system, intersex people are not some sort of third "intermediate" sex. Their reproductive systems are dysfunctional. People with functioning reproductive systems are all male (produces sperm in testes) or female (produces eggs in ovaries). There are only two types of functional gametes in humans. There are no functional 'third' or 'alternative' sexes in humans. Intersex conditions are caused by various mutations or disorders of development. That doesn't mean I think that intersex people are bad or that the only purpose in life is reproduction (I've never reproduced myself). But there are only two functional sexes (in terms of reproduction) in humans. Even so, even most infertile people are clearly one sex or the other (i.e. the reproductive system appears male or female). Disorders that cause truly ambiguous gonads or genitals are quite rare. Sexual reproduction in mammals requires a male and female parent. People without any sort of advanced education in biology understand that.

None of that has anything to do with the transgender issue. Rhys isn't intersex - he's a castrated male. The majority of transgender 'women' aren't intersex but are biological males who may take artificial hormones or have their genitals mutilated. Females are not castrated males..
