Shoudaku Con was a convention created by Shane Holmberg that was to have taken place on May 23rd-25th, 2020. It was intended to be the quintessential Kick Vic con for the #MeToo era, where enthusiastic consent is king. It failed due to infighting, backstabbing and intentional sabotage on the part of the organizer.
Announced in June of 2019, information about the event was sparse going into 2020. They had done some virtue signaling by establishing strict anti-harassment and pro enthusiastic consent policies and by promising a day for the LGBTQ+ community, but there was nothing in the way of guests other than a proposed Law Twitter panel. Shortly after the new year, all the drama going on behind the scenes was revealed.

While in the initial planning stages, Shane consulted with Amanda "Jinnie" McManus about who should chair the convention. They both agreed that it couldn't be him. She thought it should be a woman who was not associated with the Kick Vic discussions happening on Twitter, someone with connections, an on the ground runner people would unify behind. Shane came to her because he knew she was the right person for the job. He asked her to be the face of his convention.

Jinnie is an experienced industry veteran, having staffed conventions in high-level positions for 16 years. She is the founder of We Run Anime Cons, a private Facebook group for con runners worldwide. She books guests at conventions through her company, Point of Contact Booking, and has many voice actor clients. She is currently on the staff at Anime Milwaukee and Colorado Anime Fest. She wrote an affidavit for Monica and Ron about Vic's appearance at Anime Milwaukee in 2019 that was mutually cancelled two weeks after Kick Vic began. She said that while there had been rumors about Vic, she had not personally heard substantiated, actionable accusations.
Although she was publicly on the side of the defendants, privately, she told Shane that they should shut up and let the courts handle things. She said that Jamie Marchi and Monica Rial were very polarizing, even to other folks in the industry. The general consensus was that they were their own worst enemy. Shane agreed with her assessment of the situation, though would later claim that he was floored by what she had said.
On October 14th, 2019, Shane told Lynn Hunt that the reason he hadn't started event planning for Shoudaku Con yet was because he was standing up to Jinnie about Jamie. He apparently no longer wanted to work with her, though would not tell her that.

At that time, Lynn Hunt was waging a one-woman war against Anime Milwaukee and Jinnie over their association with Ryan Kopf, a staff member who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at their convention in 2018. He was a friend of Jinnie's and she alleged that Jinnie had put profits over people in covering up what happened.

On December 12th, Shane publicly defended Jinnie on Twitter against the accusations Lynn had been making about her over the past few months. Privately, he and Jinnie were pissed off that Ron Toye had noticed Lynn's comments about Ryan Kopf and was liking them, though he would never be public about it. Jinnie said that every time Shane quoted her, he was validating all of her crazy.

That same day, Jinnie tweeted that she and Shane were working together to make things better at conventions. She also tweeted insincere messages of support at Ron.

On January 1st, 2020, Lynn Hunt leaked a DM she had with Shane in October and outed his apparent dislike of Jinnie. The next day, Shane said fuck it and leaked a couple DMs he had with Jinnie and publicly came out against her. He criticized her for warning a client of hers, Chuck Huber, about an article that Anime News Network was in the process of writing about Ryan Kopf, his business partner at Anime Dallas. Chuck reportedly sold his shares in the convention in advance of the article's publication on June 26th 2019.

Jinnie would drop Chuck as a client after July 19th, 2019, when his attempt at mediation was leaked by Ron and Monica in their TCPA motion. She pretended to have been shocked at what he had proposed, though it was all for show. Shane's leaked DMs showed that she already knew. He probably told her. She waited until the news was made public because she wasn't supposed to know about it and couldn't do it any earlier. She said she didn't want to give Chuck any validation.

On January 3rd, Ron Toye had seen what Jinnie had said about him, Monica, and Jamie, in the leaked DMs and was not happy. He removed her from his followers list rendering her unable to see or respond to his tweets on his protected account.

On January 4th, Jamie started following Lynn and a user from her discord publicly shamed another Kick Vic member who wasn't supportive of Lynn's efforts to expose Jinnie. Shane flogged himself on Twitter for keeping quiet while Kick Vic gaslit Lynn, who she says had made her feel crazy.

In the days after, Shane and Lynn continued their tag-team attack on Jinnie and Chuck Huber over something he knew about for a long time. It seems like he was content to not talk about it until she forced him to.
Jinnie initially took the high road, opting not to do any damage control. She made a short statement saying she wasn't perfect, that she sometimes made mistakes and would learn from them.
When Shane and Lynn started leaking her Facebook posts, she played the race card, telling the white people to shut up and attempted to make this her own #MeToo moment.

Despite Shoudaku Con's implosion, Shane and Lynn kept trying to cancel Jinnie. They solicited gossip about her from anyone who was willing to talk.
Paula Angeles of Pacific Media Expo (PMX) claimed that Jinnie hijacked their PR web account and the $80 in credits in it after she was fired from their organization. She complained that Jinnie took her "black book" of guest contacts with her when she left. PMX apparently consulted with a lawyer, who suggested sending her a nastygram to turn over info and other assets.
Beau Dufrene reportedly turned down Jinnie's sexual advances at a convention he was covering as a member of the press and she retaliated by restricting access to guests and making things difficult for him going forward.
Following a disagreement about politics on February 17th, 2020, Shane criticized Lynn for lashing out at anything and everything without an ounce of common sense. He said this was why her crusade against Jinnie went nowhere. She apparently blocked him on Twitter and they ceased interacting.

Shoudaku Con is dedicated to creating a fun and safe environment for all attendees, staff, and guests regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, national origin, marital status, military status, or religion.
We will not tolerate harassment of guests, attendees, or staff in any form. Anyone found violating these rules will face consequences up to and including expulsion and banning from this and all future Shoudaku Con events.

Enthusiastic Consent
At Shoudaku Con, we follow the ideals of enthusiastic consent. So, when thinking about consent, remember the following:
We have staff trained to take your reports confidentially and with serious respect. You may report anonymously, or personally.
When taking a personal report, our staff will ensure you are escorted to safe location and cannot be overheard. They may involve other event staff to ensure your report is managed properly. Once safe, we’ll ask you to tell us about what happened. This can be upsetting, but we’ll handle it as respectfully as possible, and you can bring someone to support you. You will never be asked to confront the person and we will never tell anyone who you are.
To report anonymously, you may do so at safety@shoudakucon.com . We promise to investigate every report fully and to whatever action is necessary to prevent a recurrence. Of course, with an anonymous report we will not be able to follow up with you for more information or resolution.
Our team will be happy to help you contact hotel/venue security, local law enforcement, local support services, or otherwise assist you to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.

This mailbox is monitored 24-7 and a response will be as immediate as possible, even at the event.
Shoudaku Con will update this policy with a list of live phone numbers at the start of each event, where you may also reach out for immediate assistance.

Enthusiastic Consent
At Shoudaku Con, we follow the ideals of enthusiastic consent. So, when thinking about consent, remember the following:
- Consent is informed
- Before taking a picture of someone, giving a hug, or any physical contact at all, remember to ask and tell the person what you would like to do (take a picture of their cosplay, give them a hug, etc).
- Consent is enthusiastic
- Remember ONLY YES MEANS YES. Consent is a full body experience, so pay attention, and if a person seems unsure about you taking their picture, or making physical contact, realize that that is a Be graceful in accepting this answer, and move on with the interaction normally.
- Consent is mutual and continuous
- Throughout an interaction, any party can state they would like the interaction to end at any time. If at any time someone decides to end the exchange, then that means that consent is revoked and the situation should end with respect immediately. Just because you consent to a photo does not mean you consent to a hug, or anything else.
- Consent is without coercion
- Power imbalances cause many of our difficulties with consent, and all consent should be 100% done free of any manipulation, head games, or blackmail.
