this process is in place in states that have a law against letting sex offenders change their name, because if even one of them pulled it off they would likely use their new identity to re-offend. Any source like Wikipedia can only be good if it is written by people who are impartial. "Just the facts, ma'am" kind of people (definitely not the "It's ma'am" kind of people). Wikipedia isn't there to advocate or protect or whatever (it shouldn't be anyway). It's just a place to document facts. Let the individual reader decide how to interpret those facts. If you are passionate about LGBQT stuff, you are the LAST person who should be moderating it. You need someone unbiased to make the call about what gets included and what doesn't.

It's not surprising that there is a concerted effort to hide inconvenient truths, but by allowing this to happen they are destroying their own credibility. As for deadnaming -- so what? If there is nothing wrong with being trans, there is nothing wrong with people knowing what name you were given at birth.
