Inactive Andrew Dobson / Tom Preston / CattyN - STOP DOING SEXIST CRAP

For some people crying is absolutely a stress release, sure I can appreciate that personally but how is having a high opinion of someone who has the mental fortitude to hold their reactions until a more appropriate time 'toxic'? It's incredibly important during crisis management and shows genuine maturity to be able to handle things before taking a private moment.

Shut the fuck up, Dobby you utter twit.

He's also talking about Spock, who's a god damn alien.

Dobson’s comic reminded me of a scene from a great movie.

For context,in the movie Brendon Fraser’s character ends up making a deal with the devil for seven wishes in exchange for his soul so he can get the girl of his dreams. One of his wishes, seen here, is to be the most emotionally sensitive man evil because the girl he likes claims that would be her ideal man.

The movie is called “Bedazzled” and is definitely worth checking out.

And who struggles with not being able/allowed to express emotion and expresses that struggle more than once, so he's arguably not a good example. Neither is Sherlock Holmes, for that matter, considering his open excitement at being praised, as well as being engaged in the thrill of the chase. I'm not a Batman kind of girl, but I'd bet anything that he also does express his feelings.

Batman often expresses his feelings, though it's difficult for him because he has to suppress so much to do what he does... he can't run off to his Bat-Safe Space for a crying jag every time he sees a murdered kid or more kids will get murdered. So that means when he does express his emotions openly it's more impactful or meaningful.

Meanwhile Dobson is advocating going to pieces over every little thing (hey, it's what he does, right?), which means that when you cry it doesn't really mean anything. If you have yourself a sob every time you run out of Hot Pockets, crying becomes meaningless... it's just a thing you do every time things don't go your way, instead of an actual emotional outlet. (There's probably a "the more you do it the less special it is" masturbation joke in here but eh.)

Dobson has mentioned this idea that it's harmful to keep your feelings to yourself before, but it was in the context of him bitching about something, and he didn't specify at the time whether the alleged "harm" was physical or psychological (so I assumed the latter, as the former would be stupid). It's not just crying like the fat manbaby he is that Dobson's referring to, but his justification for his emotional incontinence in general. Everything from his tantrums to his constant complaining to his excessive crying to his fits of petty meanness when his feelings are hurt. The real reason for these things is a combination of autism and severely stunted development, but the self-justification is narcissism; he's not just as good as you for bawling, throwing chairs, flipping off co-workers, and whining all the time, he's better!

I'm really curious when and how he came by this strange justification that it would be "harmful" not to act on every fleeting emotion that passed through his addled egg head. The emotional incontinence seems immovably embedded in his psyche, but was he taught this nonsense early in life by his mom or some teacher or school counselor, or did he latch onto it like a barnacle later in life when he found a justification for being, well, Dobson? In other words, did this idea help cause his bad personality, or is it a result of it?

Still a stupid comic considering how much of a fanboy Dobson is for Sherlock Homes.
Funny considering Holmes is a drug addict. It's well established that whenever he's bored (ie not working on a case) he will shoot up. I forget which one, but there's a story that opens with Holmes giving himself a shot of morphine. I wonder if Dobson has either read very little of the original stories but thinks they're cool, or his only exposure is with abridged and censored versions meant for school (so parents can't complain about the content in class).

I could be wrong, but I believe the story you're talking about is either The Mark of Four or the Devils Foot. Also, I believe it was cocaine he was shooting himself up with, not morphine.

Things I've heard tend to indicate that Holmes was a huge coke fiend, though i didn't know whether he snorted it or injected it. Though, wikipedia does indicate that in some books he does use Morphine on occasion. Both Cocaine and Morphine were legal in Holmes' time IRL.

Odd choice on stoics from Dobson.
-Spock is an (half) Alien and actually feels very deeply. His behavoir is a buyproduct of his species' radically differant psychology to ours. If you watch the show it becomes very clear he cares deeply. As do the other Vulcans on star trek.
-Sherlock holmes isnt stoic at all, he's passionate and intellectually curious. He's pretty polite and dry but that isnt stoic.
-Batman's character is actually highly emotional, it's just he's a emotional disaster area due to watching his parents getting shot in front of him and spending all his time around absolute scum.

Then again Dobson struggles with the distinction with emotional control and emotional supression. Probably because he has no emotional control so has never experianced either. We are afterall talking about someone who attacked another human being due to book spoilers.

Batman cried, viciously beat up people in a rage and hanged up the cowl several times. Holmes was always portrayed as an empathetic but aloof guy. There was an early short story where a guy fearing for his life came to him and was murdered a few minutes after leaving his office, and Holmes lost his shit and went on a personal vendetta against the killers. Totally what an emotionless, toxic guy would do. And Spock is, as it's been pointed out already, a fucking alien.

They're not toxic emotionless WHITE MALES, it's just that they're not giant bitches who shit themselves when they see a word they don't like.

Not gonna lie, that one got a sensible chuckle out of me. Decent set up & good delivery; Dobson's faces being static and not dynamic works in a stop-clocked moment, where the more deadpan the security guy's face, the better it works with the joke.

Bedazzled is great because it shows the only true escape of the friendzone.
Fraser's character he realizes that he's completely incompatible with the girl he is crushing on, uses his last wish to wish her happiness, moves on and stops obsessing over her, and instead finds a girl he actually connects with who likes him as well.

Oh he injected it, at the time it was only via injection as it was medically allowed by doctors as it was seen as a more pain reliever/stimulant, especially for war veterans
