Iraqi supporters of Iran-backed militia attack US Embassy

BAGHDAD (AP) — Dozens of angry Iraqi Shiite militia supporters broke into the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad on Tuesday after smashing a main door and setting fire to a reception area, prompting tear gas and sounds of gunfire.

An Associated Press reporter at the scene saw flames rising from inside the compound and at least three U.S. soldiers on the roof of the main building inside embassy. It was not clear what caused the fire at the reception area near the parking lot of the compound. A man on a loudspeaker urged the mob not to enter the compound, saying: “The message was delivered.”

The embassy attack followed deadly U.S. airstrikes on Sunday that killed 25 fighters of the Iran-backed militia in Iraq, the Kataeb Hezbollah. The U.S. military said it was in retaliation for last week’s killing of an American contractor in a rocket attack on an Iraqi military base that it had blamed on the militia.

Dozens of protesters marched inside the compound after smashing the gate used by cars to enter the embassy. The protesters, many in militia uniform, stopped in a corridor after about 5 meters (16 feet), and were only about 200 meters away from the main building. Half a dozen U.S. soldiers were seen on the roof of the main building, their guns were pointed at the protesters.

Smoke from the tear gas rose in the area, and at least three of the protesters appeared to have difficulties breathing. It wasn’t immediately known whether the embassy staff had remained inside the main building.

The protesters hanged a poster on the wall: “America is an aggressor.”

Shouting “Down, Down USA,” the crowd tried to push inside the embassy grounds, hurling water and stones over its walls. They raised yellow militia flags and taunted the embassy’s security staff who remained behind the glass windows in the gates’ reception area. They sprayed graffiti on the wall and windows in red in support of the Kataeb Hezbollah militia: “Closed in the name of the resistance.”

Hundreds of angry protesters, some in militia uniforms, set up tents outside the embassy. As tempers rose, the mob set fire to three trailers used by security guards along the embassy wall.

No one was immediately reported hurt in the rampage and security staff had withdrawn to inside the embassy earlier, soon after protesters gathered outside.

The U.S. attack — the largest targeting an Iraqi state-sanctioned militia in recent years — and the subsequent calls by the militia for retaliation, represent a new escalation in the proxy war between the U.S. and Iran playing out in the Middle East.

Tuesday’s attempted embassy storming took place after mourners and supporters held funerals for the militia fighters killed in a Baghdad neighborhood, after which they marched on to the heavily fortified Green Zone and kept walking till they reached the sprawling U.S. Embassy there.

AP journalists then saw the crowd as they tried to scale the walls of the embassy, in what appeared to be an attempt to storm it, shouting “Down, down USA!” and “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday’s strikes send the message that the U.S. will not tolerate actions by Iran that jeopardize American lives.

The Iranian-backed Iraqi militia had vowed Monday to retaliate for the U.S. military strikes. The attack and vows for revenge raised concerns of new attacks that could threaten American interests in the region.

The U.S. attack also outraged both the militias and the Iraqi government, which said it will reconsider its relationship with the U.S.-led coalition — the first time it has said it will do so since an agreement was struck to keep some U.S. troops in the country. It called the attack a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty.

In a partly televised meeting Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi told Cabinet members that he had tried to stop the U.S. operation “but there was insistence” from American officials.

The U.S. military said “precision defensive strikes” were conducted against five sites of Kataeb Hezbollah, or Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq and Syria. The group, which is a separate force from the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, operates under the umbrella of the state-sanctioned militias known collectively as the Popular Mobilization Forces. Many of them are supported by Iran.

I wonder how /pol/ is handling the situation?

Like the Alt-Right cucks they are. Defending Iran.

Trump killed a huge fucking thorn in our side, and they do nothing but bitch about muh ZOG.
This motherfucker was worth more than Bin Laden dead. Bin Laden had nearly zero control when he was killed.
Qasem Soleimani was the wardog of the Ayatollah.

I am incredibly confused what are we arguing about again?
Some dumb asses think that the "Totally Peaceful Jawas" are somehow the victims here because "Neocons." and the Middle East hasn't been a shit show for it's entire history and the only -real- solution is to carpet bomb the entire area until one of the Goatfuckers says "Hey maybe lets not say "Death to America" because that phrase magically makes bombs drop from the sky for a week."

Why Trump drone striking Qasem Soleiman is actually a bad thing, because "muh ZOG", "muh Iran-Russia-China alliance", "muh American imperialism/corporatism/exceptionalism", etc.

The Syrian Strikes were much less effective simply because of the whole "chemical weapons" horseshit. Assassinating Soleiman? Absolutely the most important kill in the entire fucking war.
This motherfucker has armed EVERYONE that has been against us and our interests. They thought we weren't gonna do shit because that's been America's script. Diplomatically bitch back and forth, get nothing done, and let the wars continue forever.
Not this time. He killed a CRITICAL target. Trump isn't afraid to slaughter these leaders, which btw almost always survived and dictated the wars in the past. It's the best surgical strike since all of these middle east wars started in the 80's. We could have assassinated ALL of the Hussein family but instead Bush wanted to pull some insane fucking bullshit. It took us 4 fucking years and thousands of lives to get Saddam again "just cause".

If anyone is against the message of "DON'T FUCK WITH US" then I find it extremely ironic they have called so many people "cucks". Talk shit, get hit.

That is because Assassination is "frowned upon" because "My Rules of War" it is one of the dumbest things Modern Military Doctrine has done to itself.

Iran went crying to the UN only for Russia to tell them to fuck off.

Holy shit you can't be this delusional.

Nothing but lies and distortions of reality.

The "kick-start Iran's nuclear program" is especially hilarious, as if Iran ever stopped their nuclear program.
0.50 per post is a hell of a motivator I guess. Seriously that came up in this thread last night, how do you miss Russia telling one of their allies to get fucked?

Committing 1 War Crime with nearly zero American casualties is somehow worse than many War Crimes and thousands of American Casualties. The whole "Rules of "Respectable" War" is pure bullshit. Germany bitched at us for using fucking shotguns against them....in World War 1....where they both used Chlorine Gas.

Fuck that shit. Killing several innocents is worth over killing THOUSANDS of innocents. War is never fucking clean, but you should always try to keep it clean.

Hell, the very concept of a "war crime" means less and less the more geopolitical power or influence that a state has.

I’ll just leave this here. I’m starting to think Kiwidom is more widespread than we thought.

how do i apply for that deal?

Germany bitched at us for using fucking shotguns against them....in World War 1....where they both used Chlorine Gas.
Shotguns were against the rules, Gas wasnt because it wasnt invented when the Rules were made...
The father of Gas warfare got a noble prize for his work....

I dont get all those cries about warcrimes, killing an officer from the enemie is just in bad taste.

They could have bombed that whole area of iraq for a week without commiting any warcrimes. bombing civilians is NOT a war crime, just ask bomber harris.

Trump is now threatening to sanction Iraq if they don't pay the US for the bases and keep requesting the US leaves; Doubles down on threat to bomb areas of "cultural significance"

I don't see how this is not becoming a disaster for the US; Iran is pursuing nukes as quick as possible while Iraq's 75% Shia population is jumping into Iran's hands. If there is a silver living here, the US has done wonders in fostering relations between Iran and Iraq, lol.

Desperate to prove his value to his masters, the Iranian Asset continues to waste his time here:
Not willing to miss a beat, A Russian aircraft straight from Moscow is about to land in Baghdad. Putin? Somebody's gotta feast on the US fuck up.
The same country that openly dropped Iran and actually agreed with our use of force by the way.
The vote passed by 10 votes. Meaning that even if the iraqi kurds (idiots at this point, imagine still trusting the US to stand beside you) were there, it would have passed. Despite Shia being demographically underrepresented in the parliament because of confessional bullshit, they still wrangled enough Sunni votes to pull it off.
Hey, that measure passed by one vote. Those three votes proved that the government doesn't want the US there. I'm telling you those six votes mean that America is the Devil and my masters will pay me well for poorly trolling this site. I'm telling you, those ten votes will matter even though the current executive can't back this measure due to being a caretaker.

But seriously, those twenty votes matter, despite the parliament having no quorum due to half of them walking off and my masters were planning to intimidate those Shia ministers.
What happened, do we decide democratic mandates by minority opinion now? Iraq is majority Shiite and the majority have spoken under a system set up by the US itself. :story:
Ignoring that the reason the caretaker government exists right now is the Shia openly refuse to want to be puppets of Iran and protested that he was a puppet.
What Trump achieved with the killing of Iran's top general:

Unify all factions in Iran, stabilize the country.
Iran had to force their own children to cry about their terrorist agent getting chumped by a shitty drone. People are still rioting in your masters' lands, tens of thousands being killed by a corrupt and shitty panel of mullahs.
Garner massive international support for Iran.
Not even China and Russia are willing to back Iran; they dropped them because they fucked up hard with this Carter 2 Electric Boogaloo play. Macaroni and Merkell mean fuck to us until they decide to be real people allies.
Kick-start Iran's nuclear program like Bush Jnr did regarding North Korea.
No, that's Obama. Get your anti-america doctrine right you pathetic excuse of an asset.
Alienate the US from all regional factions outside of Israel and the KSA.
Dumb; even the Shia in Iraq cheered upon this fuck's pathetic death. Our major allies are about as reliable as they previously were in that area; ie not super trustworthy but fuck it.
Restart the US-Iraq war OR if US actually does leave, hand Iraq over to Iran on a silver platter. Trillions or loss of 30 million shiites to Iran. Choose.
Tweet and yeet the Iranian leaders and economy with airstrikes until they learn to stop being lunatics. Oh you mean Iraq?

Let it become a failed state or ignore it because the measure means shit all by their own interpretation of their government, since their current executive can't sign it.
And the fuck up list will continue to grow...
You're right; Iran paying you sub-minimum wage to back the gay cyberwar they're using as an impotent tantrum is a massive fuck up.

That is because Assassination is "frowned upon" because "My Rules of War" it is one of the dumbest things Modern Military Doctrine has done to itself.
EO 12036 and EO 12333. Carter and Reagan if I'm remembering correctly. Bush 1 took the teeth out of them with his "clear and present danger" stipulation (Pablo Escobar), though he didn't push his luck more than opening the door. Bush 2 rescinded both entirely, and Barry-O made it business as usual.

EDIT: Really, drone tech had to catch to catch up with the policy change. Now it's a standard practice.

I like how threads on Middle Eastern happenings bring out all kinds of spergs.

Truly, the Middle East is the battleground of empires.

First American soldiers bootytickled you, now it's the Jews (may Allah curse them) bootytickling you from their "fascist" nation that allows for free elections.
The Middle East, along with the Balkans, is the most cursed region on earth.
