Iraqi supporters of Iran-backed militia attack US Embassy

BAGHDAD (AP) — Dozens of angry Iraqi Shiite militia supporters broke into the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad on Tuesday after smashing a main door and setting fire to a reception area, prompting tear gas and sounds of gunfire.

An Associated Press reporter at the scene saw flames rising from inside the compound and at least three U.S. soldiers on the roof of the main building inside embassy. It was not clear what caused the fire at the reception area near the parking lot of the compound. A man on a loudspeaker urged the mob not to enter the compound, saying: “The message was delivered.”

The embassy attack followed deadly U.S. airstrikes on Sunday that killed 25 fighters of the Iran-backed militia in Iraq, the Kataeb Hezbollah. The U.S. military said it was in retaliation for last week’s killing of an American contractor in a rocket attack on an Iraqi military base that it had blamed on the militia.

Dozens of protesters marched inside the compound after smashing the gate used by cars to enter the embassy. The protesters, many in militia uniform, stopped in a corridor after about 5 meters (16 feet), and were only about 200 meters away from the main building. Half a dozen U.S. soldiers were seen on the roof of the main building, their guns were pointed at the protesters.

Smoke from the tear gas rose in the area, and at least three of the protesters appeared to have difficulties breathing. It wasn’t immediately known whether the embassy staff had remained inside the main building.

The protesters hanged a poster on the wall: “America is an aggressor.”

Shouting “Down, Down USA,” the crowd tried to push inside the embassy grounds, hurling water and stones over its walls. They raised yellow militia flags and taunted the embassy’s security staff who remained behind the glass windows in the gates’ reception area. They sprayed graffiti on the wall and windows in red in support of the Kataeb Hezbollah militia: “Closed in the name of the resistance.”

Hundreds of angry protesters, some in militia uniforms, set up tents outside the embassy. As tempers rose, the mob set fire to three trailers used by security guards along the embassy wall.

No one was immediately reported hurt in the rampage and security staff had withdrawn to inside the embassy earlier, soon after protesters gathered outside.

The U.S. attack — the largest targeting an Iraqi state-sanctioned militia in recent years — and the subsequent calls by the militia for retaliation, represent a new escalation in the proxy war between the U.S. and Iran playing out in the Middle East.

Tuesday’s attempted embassy storming took place after mourners and supporters held funerals for the militia fighters killed in a Baghdad neighborhood, after which they marched on to the heavily fortified Green Zone and kept walking till they reached the sprawling U.S. Embassy there.

AP journalists then saw the crowd as they tried to scale the walls of the embassy, in what appeared to be an attempt to storm it, shouting “Down, down USA!” and “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday’s strikes send the message that the U.S. will not tolerate actions by Iran that jeopardize American lives.

The Iranian-backed Iraqi militia had vowed Monday to retaliate for the U.S. military strikes. The attack and vows for revenge raised concerns of new attacks that could threaten American interests in the region.

The U.S. attack also outraged both the militias and the Iraqi government, which said it will reconsider its relationship with the U.S.-led coalition — the first time it has said it will do so since an agreement was struck to keep some U.S. troops in the country. It called the attack a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty.

In a partly televised meeting Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi told Cabinet members that he had tried to stop the U.S. operation “but there was insistence” from American officials.

The U.S. military said “precision defensive strikes” were conducted against five sites of Kataeb Hezbollah, or Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq and Syria. The group, which is a separate force from the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, operates under the umbrella of the state-sanctioned militias known collectively as the Popular Mobilization Forces. Many of them are supported by Iran.

Or maybe the US made a deal to kill Soleimani to help shake up the government in Iran and allow Iran to fire missiles at empty bases to let Iran keep the appearance of power. Tin foil hat time

hitting nothing but dirt with their farthest range most threatening weapons, and shooting down a Ukrainian airliner in their capital is kind of the polar opposite of “keeping up the appearance of power”. It more solidifies that they are incompetent retards play acting on the world stage.

It's all so tiresome.

Seriously, it must be exhausting for someone to get riled up every time the news puts out a fearmonger piece.

Yeah, but the trade-off is that getting outraged about everything makes them feel like the moral betters of everyone else.

Don't try to take some sort of highground by claiming you were following the rules of debate procedure or whatever the fuck you think you're doing by endlessly arguing with me about your own understanding of a country you've never been to and have no interest in besides shitposting about on /pol/.
Have you been to China?

Why did you come into a thread about Iran and derail it into a thread about China?

Clearly a covert way of saying Ukraine is dirt. A powerful statement ordained by Iran's Kremlin overlords.

Because the sky is falling on the West, guis. And if Joshie boy sees one more fucking Micky Mouse he's gonna have an aneurysm

You don’t tell the soldiers “hey, we’re not actually trying to blow up the devil worshippers. This is for us to not get into a bigger civil war over Soleimani. Don’t fire at any planes you see”

Now Iran has to double over to try and hide this fuckup every way possible. They’re never giving up that plane’s black box

I am absolutely not sorry about saying what I want, and I don't know if you realize this but I've streamed every Wednesday almost without pause for more than a year. The Iran shit literally just happened and it wasn't a prepared stream, as I'm moving to Friday, so that's what I had to talk about. I wasn't even angry at the US, I was angry at how shitty Europe is.
Then I hope you won't mind me saying what I want:

By 2040, China will not have reabsorbed Taiwan, will not become a new global hegemon, and won't even retain its illusion of a good economy. China's AI will remain second-place at best to the US's, and the US will have completely buttfucked China in every way. China's economy will probably collapse by that point, and China itself will probably split into warring states.

Don't bet on red. Bet on red, white, and blue. Time and history will prove me right in the end.

When it comes to normal crimes refusing to relinquish items or not cooperating doesn't automatically mean guilt. When it comes to aviation disasters like this however, specifically refusing to relinquish the black box does tend to mean you're guilty as shit.
Am I right in thinking that if they refuse to relinquish the black box, they may be locked out of the international civil aviation authority, which would mean airlines could be banned from flying to Iranian airports?

If Iran did shoot down the Ukranian plane near Tehran, it will have officially killed 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, 10 Swedes, 4 Afghanis, 3 Germans, and 3 Britons + dozens of Iraqis in its retaliation against the U.S, which so far hasn't killed any US.

So, following the US assassination of Qassem Soleimani, Iran's response has so-far seen:
- A crush at his funeral that killed 56 Iranians
- A ballistic missile strike that killed nobody but continue to violate Iraqi Sovereignty.
- A shoot down of a civilian airliner killing 82 Iranians.

Yes, a trifecta of fuck-ups.

Not surprised to see both sides apparently pulling back. Iran knew they couldn't win a war against the USA. So they made their face-saving gesture. Okay. Believe Iran will now think very carefully before committing any terrorist acts against the USA. And should any terrorist acts happen any time soon, Iran will be blamed and be retaliated against.

Shoot-down, in my opinion, was due to piss-poor leadership and training of air defense people. Probably also bad communications between air traffic control and those providing air defense. This should never have happened. Look for Iran to offer settlements to the airline and all foreign passengers killed. Bet Putin's already called and insisted on it, maybe the Ukrainians too.

The thing about this situation I find unbelievably disgusting is all the "Americans" who acted as apologists for Soleimani and their hatred of President Trump. Get the impression that these people revel in the thought of American men and women being killed by Iranian actions. The ONLY way Soleimani was going to stop what he was doing was to die. Fucker's dead now. President Trump is merely doing his job. Am sure if he had to do it over he'd still wax Soleimani.

You come out of this thinking the Democrats/leftists/MSM are a bigger enemy of and threat to our country than ANY foreign power. Seriously, the Dems never miss a chance to fuck themselves and increase the divisions in our country.

The chinese and ABCs are buying up property all over the united states. A lot of the action on the coasts has slowed down but now they're coming into the flyover and buying up houses, condos, apartements, and commercial real estate. It's concerning that America allows such willy nilly property purchasing.

But i'm not going to lie, the chinese landlords (abcs) are a little more understanding than the previous jewish consortiums i've had to deal with. For one, they fix shit pretty quickly as opposed to waiting toward the end of the year as legally required.

e:

I should also say that chinese illegals are able to open businesses legally in a few states. They can't work or do any profit making, but they can hire legal employees and then reap the profits and cut themselves a salary. apparently, there's nothing illegal about that.

The old solutions do not work. We've been trying to pound the Middle East into dust for the last thirty-something years and all it's ever accomplished is death and destruction and a constantly-escalating incident. It's never solved a single problem and it's never improved a single life. The old solutions have been an abject and pathetic failure, so new solutions had to be found.

The new solution is a massive amount of disinformation and MILDEC in order to make sure that absolutely no one outside of the planning has any fucking clue what's happening. That's why all of the reports during these situations are an absolutely nightmarish clusterfuck and even the people with legitimate sources get it completely wrong because those sources are either misinformed intentionally or willing to lie.

The new strategy is to purge out the mistakes of the past. There's nothing of value in any of the previous strategies so all of it has to go away. However, the damage that the previous strategies have caused also made it impossible to just wipe the slate and walk away from the table like nothing ever happened. Once everyone's finished burning every last page from the old rulebook and gotten rid of the hold-overs who won't let things change, then everyone can get back on the same page, again.

Once everyone gets to walk away looking like a hero to their own people, there's no sense in fighting over the past anymore. If all it takes for the situation to calm down is for Iran to throw a shit-fit to make it look like they held their own and walked away having avenged Soleimani, then what the Hell, why not?

The thing about this situation I find unbelievably disgusting is all the "Americans" who acted as apologists for Soleimani and their hatred of President Trump. Fucker's dead now. President Trump is merely doing his job. Am sure if he had to do it over he'd still wax Soleimani.

The Democrats and the mainstream media were more understanding and receptive of Soleimani than they ever were to Nick Sandman or Brett Kavanaugh.

My current theory on the Ukrainian airliner goes something like this.
“Hey Hassim, do you know how these missile things they gave us work? The radioman says the Americans are about to bomb us!”
”Yeah look. You hold it this way. You look through this thingy at an airplane, and hold this button until it goes”
BEEEEEP!
FWOOOSH!
“Oh Fuck Me On. Camel! Can everybody remember, we were never here! We were cleaning the latrines left handed when this happened! ”
