"lol lots of people kill themselves over frivolous shit"

Brought to you by the same person who thinks the mildest disagreement with troons is genocidal because it can cause them to commit suicide.

Which is rather ironic because the troons who scream the loudest about how we are trying to kill them prove the most resilient to death.

I won't link Pinkfakenews, but you can be assured that Stock commits no "public" acts of transphobia.

Zach has a thought about the Bible.

For the information of anyone who has a similar query as Zach's: in Biblical times patrilineality was the rule; the hypothetical "baby born in foreign land" comes back with his dad to his dad's ancestral land.

They may even help a depressed, suicidal Zach not jump off a 10-story building... :smug:

Noooo, that would be a very bad idea.

You know what that little weirdo would try to do if Muslim zealots took him to the top of a building? It might take all day, but he'd make it disappear.

Allah Himself would scream, vomit, and destroy the universe.

And who could blame Him?

It's also not how the Roman census system worked. The author of Luke just needs a device to get Jesus from Nazareth (where everyone knows his entire family lived) to Bethlehem (where the Messiah has to be from according to Micah).

If "each to his own city" had been a thing. we would have documentation of it. Not to mention that it literally doesn't make any sense (you do a census to assess taxes, shuffling people around to places they don't live in is just counter-productive) and would be a massive economic and social disruption - thousands of people on the move - just for some hare-brained administrative fancy. The Romans knew what they were doing and if there had been such an imperial edict, we would know.

ZJ is supposedly was atheist, but in analyzing the Bible completely ignores the "total made up shit" theory.

That's the only theory that accounts for all the contradictions, and no intellectual somersaults needed.
Yeah, but as usual, Zach is mentally stuck in that fedora-tipping edgelord atheist phase we all went through when we were 15.

In his bubble of a life, pointing out that people can't walk on water is still the pinnacle of intellectualism.

I can't entirely blame Zach for wanting to falsify the Biblical account. Any objectively provable events that can be given historical analysis can and should be held up to sunlight to see if they survive scrutiny. If he wants to toss out all the supernatural stuff, fine, atheists do that by default, and that's more than understandable.

There are lots of problems with the account of Luke.

I'm Catholic and I honestly don't give a shit.

Seriously, who cares.

ETA: I mean, it's really not important. I could devote hours trying to prove the Census wasn't real to try to invalidate what the book says or simply say "wow, this Jesus guy was a cool man who wanted people love each other... he could have or not been born in manger between a cow and a donkey, but that only makes the story cool and his message is still relevant whether is true or not."

For your own sanity don't check out the last few days in the Tamar/Melinda thread in lolcow.

The only reason Zack is known at all is because he was once an atheist with a YouTube channel. But he's been mostly silent on the topic for a decade, and lately has disavowed his earlier activism, says it embarrasses him.

Now, out of the blue he jumps back into it with a staple of Bible Debunking 101? And the angle we should consider is he "feels like that's not how a census works"?

Nothing in Zack's brain works the way you'd expect.

I would actually watch this. My guess on subject would be a discussion on the finer points of dildo crafting and inappropriate costume design and how it can stop you from becoming depressed and thinking about suicide.

The topic wouldn't matter. I wouldn't sit any closer than 15 rows from the stage. Plus, I'd wear a raincoat.

Why people have an almost universal hatred of clowns. He's an expert on hatred of clowns since his mom fucked one at his birthday party.

TED talks are by "experts", loosely defined but not wide open self defined.
This requires some sort of real world success at whatever it is.

ZJ's TED talk would be about the Chelsea Manning trial and related issues.
A genuine if debatable case can be made that ZJ is an expert.

Not generic lefty talking points, even on trans issues.
The TED "expert" would need to have a degree in something.

And not the finer points of La Vida Squicky .
TED talks really don't do that. But I can picture it. ;)

Perhaps the gnome should go to school too.
They talk about Twitter like it’s some kind of prison, as if you can’t just not look. I have this mental image of Trump personally coming over to Jake’s house, holding his head facing the screen with one hand and scrolling through Twitter with the other, while Jake sobs helplessly.
