I do have a reason why it annoys me off that they are just giving trans children puberty blockers and hormones so easily. Would you like to hear about a group of children with legitimate physical and neurological issues who are NOT so easily allowed to access hormone therapy that absolutely makes a huge difference in their quality of life? The hormones bring on early puberty, causes their bones to fuse ( as adult bones naturally do when you are finished growing) and the children remain child size. There are no side effects really, just stunted growth aka attenuated growth.The hormones are given via a small patch. No surgery, no pain at all and the patch is applied by parents. It is not expensive, invasive or complicated.

Now why would this ever be a good thing? Consider the case of some very severely handicapped children (brain injured from birth). They have the mind capacity of infants and will never progress mentally. Many have loving parents who are very dedicated to their care. But once the kids get too large ( and as parents age and get frail) , they need mechanical hoists or may have to put them in institutions because they cannot physically care for the child any longer.

These are children with minds and needs of an infant. One of their few joys in life is being loved and cuddled by their parents. Growing to adult size makes holding them , carrying them and caring for them almost impossible.

But some disability activists are aghast at anything done to alter handicapped people and they compare it to sterilizing low iq adults back in the 50s. They say these children have a right to grow to adult height and it is cruel to deny them and these kids might grow up and be upset by this. Umm, no they wont. not ever! These are kids who will never have the capacity to speak or think or do anything beyond an infants ability.

a child that I love has the mind of an infant (rare genetic anomaly) and the parents had to fight for this treatment. As the child of very tall parents, he was likely to grow to over 6 ft tall. He is very loved by his parents who see to all his needs. He is a very joyful child, active and so lovable and very well behaved. His parents fought for the treatment and got it. I remember this ended up becoming a big issue when a family did it and it got called "the ashley treatment" but no one understood why it was done. The media made it negative without understanding the reason behind it and stopped all discussion that needed to be done in the medical circles.

I completely agree, and I know why it is happening. The doctor assumes that the therapist is telling the patient some things that they aren't being told, and the therapist is assuming the doctor is telling the patient things that they aren't being told. Both assume that the patient will kill themselves if they don't get what they want. The therapist is not allowed to ask certain questions or have certain discussions because if they get accused of conversion therapy they will be in serious trouble. The doctor assumes that the therapist is able to make a good assessment, while most of the therapists writing letters for surgery don't think there should have to be mental health assessments at all. Therapists are not able to understand the liability that they are taking on, but they will when they have to file for bankruptcy or cannot afford their insurance anymore. many lives will be ruined before that happens, unfortunately.

ALSO, when it comes to needing hysterectomies, that wasn't even known until recently. It took a bunch of emergency hysterectomies (like the kind buck angel got, where her uterus filled up with pus and growths) before professionals even knew. There are experimental medicine procedures that aren't being followed, usually if you're doing something new & different medically you have to sign up to enroll in a study that monitors outcomes over time (no cost to patients, but treatment is contingent on being in the study). Pediatric cancer used to kill the majority of patients until doctors did the mandatory study enrollment thing, now there is hope for most kids because of what was learned in the last 50 years or so. The figures that were collected in sweden (which show increased suicide post SRS) are the best numbers we have, but those aren't even pediatric transitioners. its going to be wild when someone pieces the data together.

Yes, it is also known as the ashley treatment. hers is the one of the few publicized cases and it the most extreme case. That child also had her surgery to remove her breast buds and uterus to spare her getting periods and to prevent her growing large breasts ( family genetics predicted period and or breast issues). That surgery greatly added to the controversy of her individual case and the media capitalized on it.

But that is extreme and not necessary for all the other children. Most parents just opt for the hormone treatment and thats all. No surgery. They just put a hormone patch on the child and thats it. No pain, no shots, nothing invasive at all.

There is a short 20 minutes documentary on youtube about it on youtube. It concerns 2 children in Australia/NZ. These children are exceedingly disabled ( worst case scenario possible) and cannot do anything and do require medical attention and/ or medical equipment for transport. Honestly, their cases are heartbreaking. However, their parents love is fierce, unwavering and frankly quite admirable.

The little boy i know can walk, interacts, plays, laughs a lot, and enjoys many outings with his family. We love him so very much! He is pure joy, never a tantrum or misbehavior. I know a teenager who hasn’t gone through puberty, he will be 16 this year and is on risperidone which is known to fuck up your endocrine system. Lactation, gynecomastia, lack of menstrual cycle, and diabetes are common side effects. His pediatrician refuses to address the lack of puberty and he, like Jazz, has a prepubescent body. The assumption is that he is just a late bloomer, but he is no different from a ten year old development wise aside from height. Doctors are so ready to halt children‘s puberty but won’t help a kid who is nearly an adult go through puberty.

Always found it odd how small informed consent is in that type of setting, in research my last one was an eight page document they had to sign.

This just made me wonder about a personal case in my life. A friend of my mom's has a daughter with severe Down's (has a mentality between 8-12, and she was very short (probably only about 4'7 or so. Granted, her parents weren't very tall either) She played nice with the kitties. I assumed she was their granddaughter, but my mom informed me that she was their daughter and in fact 32 years old. Now I can't help but wonder if she was given some sort of growth stunting treatment. OK BACK ON TOPIC

But why can't folks like him get a donor vagina, especially if they can make cadaver skin grafts, use their corneas etc. ?

A literal vagina transplant is currently medically impossible. There are tons of inner components to the vagina that one simply cannot structure or create on a medical or surgical level, such as its ability to self-clean or utilize the same muscle structure. You can't transplant eggs or uteruses or anything like that. The foundations in a biologically male body aren't there and you might as well be doing magic.
