Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

I'm not sure I've ever gotten the fucking point of containment boards for this exact reason. Containment - from, like, the rest of the site? Just fucking ban them and let them eat each other after you throw them back in the lake. Unless it's supposed to be containment from the rest of the internet, in which case why the hell does a private paywalled forum have some obligation to shield society from these painfully annoying emotion vampires

One of the core points of authority that keeps coming up whenever BIGOTRY and TRANSPHOBIA gets discussed in QCS or whatever is that there aren't enough resources and safe spaces for troons and how dare you try to take that away from us, but that isn't why SA exist(ed) in the first place. It's (was) a fucking comedy forum. If your entire identity is how trans you are, go make a community for that explicit purpose and fuck off. If you want to make jokes and shitpost with your postin pals, do so? But nope gotta be pathological narcissists concocting any reason to acquire some facsimile of power on a dead gay forum. If 2019/2020 SA is a "larger audience" for your performative wokeness you need to re-assess your life decisions I'd think
It's fitting that the title or whatever for TGRS is "It's not about you".

This current conversation brings back a thought I had earlier: how do sites gain immunity to being over-run by malcontents and echo chambers?
It sounds dumb but you need to stand for something and then measure everything against that. Say what you want about the wokebrains, but that's what they're trying to force upon the forums. It's also one of the reason Always Online lefties are so derisive of Liberals, because the principles of Liberalism that most people in North America take for granted (e.g. free speech, freedom of association) are corrosive to the kind of groupthink you see in the TGRS trans thread.

There's this saying that any community that isn't explicitly right wing will inevitably become a far left shithole. It's a little hyperbolic but not entirely wrong, I think it's more about authoritarianism than explicit left/right.

Agreed, I've seen right-leaning places get taken over by Ayn Rand cultists, White Nationalists or Fundies. The fall of these places, left or right, usually begins when a member of the group concerned becomes a mod. A proper idealogue will see their own views as "just common sense" rather than the biased ideologies we all have, and they then mod the forum in a way that promotes their agenda, perhaps without even realising it because they are so certain of their beliefs that they don't think they are biased.

I stopped posting on SA when Jose probated someone in GBS for saying that "standards of living have risen under capitalism" with a probe reason that read "Cuba is good." There is no reasoning with someone that far down the rabbit hole. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the admins to make sure that the mods behave, and of course Lowtax has been asleep at the wheel for years in that respect.

Yes but generally you don't get it from the staff end except from the time mootykins bent the knee to Anita in hopes for some sweet progressive cred. So it's not as noticable as the groupthink on SA/ResetEra where if a troon decides they don't like what you say they'll get you banned.
The reason 4chan groupthink isn't utterly impenetrable is because of anonymity and the inherently contrary nature of its userbase. No matter how popular an idea is there there's gonna be drive by shitposts making fun of it.

So now that today's little drama spat between competing faggots to see who can suck more dicks behind the 711 is over, let's focus back on the faggots at SA?

Also, echoing the poster who said SA used to be a cool place to find niche stuff like car chat, then WH40K chat, then cooking/recipe chat, etc. but the cancer metastasized to the point where posting a thread asking about making sausage is bigoted because it might trigger someone's dysphoria and ban the OP. I was one of the original MAGAtar posters and was unceremonially permad one day after some screeching faggot made a thread in qcs literally stating "all Trump supporters are genocidal Nazis who support locking kids in cages, it's time we remove them all"

Shit ain't going anywhere but downhill after that. Reminder Jose is literally on record boasting about how he's been a welfare cheat on UK's unemployment benefits for years and his biggest hassle in life is having to come up with an excuse to his social worker "proving" that he's been looking for work so the bennys keep coming. Lmao these are Grade A USDA Prime fucking losers. Jose, Burt Sexual, KM, and crew are all on record being massive fucking shitstains. Jose the welfare grifter example of a Republican's wet dream "welfare queen", Burt Sexual the faux commie, KM who has literally set up a "charity for PoC", raised a few hundo then decided she was in fact the beneficiary bc of her poor oppressed Detroit suburb upper-middle class hood life. These are all pretty undeniably criminal pieces of shit. Literal criminal reprobate scum human beings make up most of SA's mod crew. Is it any shock at all the site's "culture" is like this?

This current conversation brings back a thought I had earlier: how do sites gain immunity to being over-run by malcontents and echo chambers? Someone posited the like / dislike button can cause feedback loops. That's true. There's basically one on this site as well, but I don't see it (currently) going the way of Resetera or SA. Places like 4chan seem immune to group-think via its chaotic nature and frequent shitposts. Perhaps its an administration problem, sympathetic elements allowing echo chambers to fester? A general lack of confrontation could also be a factor, running out the elements that would harm a growing subculture so it can spread. IIRC, SA started going downhill shortly after the conservative posters were banned or ostracized.

Hm. Perhaps a diversity of shit thoughts is a strength.
That's part of it. I think another key element is the development of cliques and forum celebrities. When everyone from the lowliest janitors to the first-posting newfriend is a faggot and called out on their autism, nobody can wrestle control of the culture. Encouraging posters to explore topics and participate in a variety of topics is also important. Some subforums here have a different culture than the site at large, but there is enough cross over that they haven't become too insular.

Getting fat is a predictable consequence of the constant fight or flight feeling that these intersectionalists cultivate. Cortisol is a motherfucker.
It's not just the level that matters. Exercise increases serum cortisol but parts of your body seem to interpret its presence in that context differently than just having cortisol hanging out for no reason.

Shit wait we shouldn't give them any ideas. Tell them this and the HAES goons will start making the argument that exercise makes you fat.

No one hates the trans community more than trans people who haven't gone completely bonkers.

Considering, if memory serves, the events of the last two months were kicked off when trans fyad superstar skylark made fun of a bunch of TGRS posters, that seems likely.

This point in particular's really important I think. SA's total breakdown is occurring in part due to the fact that you have a group of power users that cannot be criticized or called out in any meaningful way and are pretty much immune to the community's norms. Over a decade of cultivating a specific culture down the tubes because some dude wants to LARP as a woman.

Makes me appreciate Null's work more, especially with the line he's trying to balance across with this new highlight system.

Over two decades at this point. Then again the culture really went down the toilet around 2016 when half the userbase realized that they had some republican friends and became militant about segregating themselves.

Why hasn't anyone blown the whistle on him?

it's somewhat of a tangent, but since furries are now outing themselves all over SA and trying to make lowtax apologize for gassing them, I might as well mention that the same thing happened with the furry fandom in an even worse way than SA if you can believe it.

there used to be tons of openly conservative furries sporting all sorts of guns and self-deprecating memes, but the crazies (and I mean crazy even as far as furries are concerned) worked their way up the ranks and started getting the attention of people that up until recently were always striving to be politically neutral... and now the sparkledogs are running the show.

every community the alphabet people infest turns from having fun to policing thought and it's just so damned depressing, I think it's the main reason Null reached out to Lowtax and tried to help him when he did, but now that ship has sailed

This last month or whatever have just demonstrated that no, it isn't Important, and probably never was.

It was, if only personally. It no longer is. Value is personal.

If there was a neutral ground, I would like to argue with SA mods about how they turned the forum into an incomprehensible shithole. Or to be more precise, them allowing shitpiles on two legs to dominate the entire place is useless. The only place to argue is QCS and that would lead to a ban. There is no reasonable way to penetrate that bubble anymore. If Lowtax was still young and strong this sort of shit would never have happened but he is an addict and only cares about Patreon bucks anymore.

Moral of the story: forum is the people who write there. The rest is just trappings.
