Arin Hanson / Egoraptor / Grump - "Hey I'm Grump!" of Game Grumps fame, hypocritical SJW doxer, shat himself recording a let's play

It just looks like a terrible rip off of Super Mario Brothers; but with a painful color palette and levels that look entirely too busy/cluttered.

I get the idea; make it look like a NES game that's glitchy as fuck and destroying itself which ties into the Battle Royale bullshit. But like you said, it's too visually busy to really pay attention to what's going on.

I’m backtracking a bit on this thread and got curious about why Thundercats Roar got attention and why Ross at first gave snarky comments/responses about people disliking it until he backpedaled a bit

Oh boy. I can see why people hated it

For the life of me; I can't understand how 1) anyone could like this series or 2) that anyone would be proud of being part of its creation.

The absolute state of western animation

I swear Arin made this show, he’s apparently a huge thundercats nerd and it’s overall laziness suits him and his animations to a T.
The soviet jump game looks so bad, I can’t believe that people are defending it the way it is.
I genuinely wonder if Arin pooped his pants in front of them, pulled the poop out and flung it at them, would they defend that behavior?

Not a cartoonist or animator, but I know what I like; and the Cal Arts style grates me something hard. There's a lot of exaggeration that gives you lots of room to play with; but doesn't anchor you to a sense of scale or offer much in the way of detail. When you're making a visual medium, you need something that's pleasant to look at; and the Cal Arts style is not pleasant to look at. It's something I'd expect from a child just learning to draw. And if your visual medium is going to be shit, you better have stellar fucking writing to keep anything more than the tumblr crowd (looking at Steven Universe).

I always assumed that these shows got green lit because 1. nepotism, weird they all came from the same school & 2. because these shows have cheap looking styles & it is easier to produce. The producers care about quantity more than quality. There was a show called OK KO: Let's Be Heroes which was about heroes who worked at a bodega that had some of the worst animation I have ever seen. Just sloppy schlock that even someone who is not an animator & misses mistakes in other shows can tell is bad. This is your average episode mind you,i'm sure the big episodes had a bit more money invested into them. I can't imagine it had much of a fan base, but it got three seasons. Why did it get green lit? 1. The guy that made it fucked Rebecca Sugar & 2. the creators bent over when the producers asked to cut corners with the animation. I mean why invest money in cartoons when for stupid kids who don't watch television & watch youtubers like ImJayStation, which definitely isn't targeted towards children despite everything suggesting it does.

Why did it get green lit? 1. The guy that made it fucked Rebecca Sugar...

Not to get too off-topic, but that's fucking disgusting. She has the look of an ape or Goblina more than any real life human I've ever seen. I don't care how warm or moist it is, it's beastiality. Their actual creation process is irresponsible as fuck and they wing shit as it goes; they have very little (if any) technical drawings, so nothing is ever done to scale which means characters are always changing shape and size, even in the same fucking scene. Then they take what little notes and ideas they have, ship them off to Korea and let them try to make sense of the scribbles provided. I seriously don't even know how her shit got green-lit; unless she sucked the entire Cartoon Network Corporate office dry in one day... then she got lucky with the Tumblr crowd picking it up.

Arin wants to do three things, and if he gave up even one of them, he'd be so much more tolerable.

He doesn't want help to play these games.
He doesn't want to try and seriously engage these games.
And he wants to be seen as a serious critic.

If he doesn't want help and he wants to be seen as a serious critic he has to try and engage the game.

If he wants to be seen as a serious critic and he doesn't want to try he has to accept help.

And if he doesn't want help and doesn't want to try he has to give up being seen as a serious critic.

He wants to do all three, and all it results in is people seeing how lazy he is and slowly losing respect with them.

As of this writing, with about 17K views, this is the current most popular Soviet Jump Game video not actually by the Game Grumps. And, despite the uploader trying to be as optimistic as possible and repeatedly mentioning how he’s really been wanting more non-shooter Battle Royales, it really doesn’t go too well.

The first round he immediately walks into a pit and dies, the second round he dies to another player, the third round the game crashes to the title screen, the fourth he dies to bad netcode, the fifth he dies to the game’s own imprecise platforming, and the last he wins by default because the only other player leaves before the round even starts.

His final thoughts are that it’s a fun concept that just isn’t ready yet and needs a lot of work, especially on the visual angle because as it stands it’s quite busy and confusing at important moments.

It’s really not the best look for them, especially because as far as I can tell it’s now the top gameplay result for the game on YT.

Bringing this back up for a second because holy shit the comment section. Actual unironic quotes:

(in response to someone talking about the controls) Maybe they tried to recreate the game feel of the original. IDK.

I think it’s supposed to be laggy and glitchy by design, as per the original game it’s based on.

Hey Aaron Hansen from gamegrumps got this game up and going. That's so awesome to see NL playing it!!!

Actually, this is my first look at the finished product. Looks like Arin tried to keep it somewhat authentic to the original cartridge instead of stealing the idea. In other words, he finished an unfinished game without trying to change too much. Being free just to release this game to the public.

It’s like a revamping of a game that GameGrumps Arin played on the Russian N64, the Dendy.

This game was refurbished from an old cartridge and was supposed to be lost but arin worked hard to get the code unscrambled, also this is a battle royal from the 80s

For those who are curious: One (1) Arin Hanson of Game Grumps had came into ownership of a really old gaming device, and there happened to be one game on it that he couldn't get to work. After the longest period of time, after research and obtaining the right number of parts to get it TO work, and with the help of a friend of if, he discovered that it held within the first Platformer Battle Royale style game, and thusly decided to turn it into this: Soviet Jump Game. The video is on YouTube, so if this wasn't clear enough then go ahead and watch the video!

It’s amazing to see just how many people fell for the marketing stunt hook line and sinker.

Even if this was just Ross being a troll, I vividly remember Oney saying the only few people that defended the show were people that didn't want to lose favors on the LA animation industry.
Honestly wouldn't be shocked since that show is dancing around the area of OK KO and other cookie cutter CN shows. That whole community is very tight knit and I'm sure causing a stink would really cut Ross deep especially when his resolution for the decade was to branch out into more VA work.

Sure they would; they'd blame his critics for pushing him into having a mental breakdown.

I'm more amazed that some of these folks think Arin made the game, personally - instead of just producing it (i.e. funding it).

And, not surprised at all to see people claim that the glitches/screwy hit boxes were intentional. (because of coourse 'Arin' would add game elements he hates into a game he 'makes'; just so the players could understand how annoying these things are. And anyone who dares to get on his case - if it was an intentional decision - just don't understand his 'marketing genius'/expertise in game design).

He doesn't want help to play these games.

Not so. Allie's express purpose during Livestreams was to handhold Arin, guiding him throughout all playthroughs (despite viewers demanding that she stfu and let Arin figure things out on his own).

the funny thing is, you are never gonna game-grumps actually playing the game outside something heavily edited and secured.
couse Arin would get so mad if he actually had to play the game, and he wouldent know what to do since he cant call it shitty design or blame the game

No, he'd play it - but the elements that he'd normally rage over (crappy hit boxes and annoying glitches) he'd instead praise as elements for keeping players on their toes/adding a sense of anxiety that enhances gameplay (or some chintzy excuse like that).

It'd start off with a really big gloat, Arin makes loud obnoxius happy noises while Dan does his laugh. They die and Arin gets all critical on the game in a good way of how fair and balanced it is. They goof around and make one repetitive joke throughout the entire playthrough, Dan goes through a story of his, they win a round, it goes to the menu screen and Arin plugs it hard.

I could probably go on a Mr. Enter esque rant about this, but I just want to point out 3 things I really hate.

1. Random Access humor :lit:

2. The over-reliance on that dumb fucking cat mouth (Get it, they're cats and it's cute. Remember how it's cute on internet things?)

3. That slow motion shot/crash in to a tree part is not only not funny, it also perfectly showcases how poorly made this show it. I'm not what anyone would call a professional in animation, but I do have a passion for it. With 2D animation you can't just play something in slow motion, you need to add more frames. That part has literally 3 frames (1-In air, 2-on collision, 3-After Collision) A lot of the trailer seemed like that, and shouldn't a trailer have, you know, the good parts of animation.

The fact that Ross is a "fan" of it is disgusting, I would have thought he would have more respect for the craft. And no, it's not the art style. Adventure Time and Gravity Falls proves that you can have the "cal-arts' style and tell fun and compelling stories in a show directed at kids.

I don't get why their fans like their let's plays so much. Every clip used there where Arin is having a bitch fit about how he doesn't know how to play games is so awkward. It's just Arin raging while Dan nervously chuckles and tries to diffuse the situation with jokes that Arin completely ignores. It feels like going to your friend's house after school and awkwardly listening to your friend's mom yell at them.
