Super Smash Bros.

How are Chrom and Lucina side characters? Chrom is the main lord of Awakening alongside Robin, and Lucina is one of the most important characters in Awakening's plot. If Ike can make it despite being in some of the worst selling Fire Emblem games of all time, twice, why not put Awakening reps?
Because Robin is the Avatar of that game, so he makes sense. Chrom is his sidekick, and Lucina's existence in Smash is an outright spoiler for Awakening, much like Sheik.

If they were gonna add two more characters from Awakening, why not Tharja and Tiki? A magician and a dragon? And come to think of it, why aren't there that many magicians in all of Smash? Seems like an easy fit.

I hope the next character announced is like Duster from Mother 3 or something just to kick up that autism storm again. Alternate between Earthbound series characters and more Fire Emblem characters. Add Lon'Qu after that and then Kumatora and then Barst and just keep the shitstorm going.

Duster is already represented as a spirit. Porky, however, is conspicuously absent from the entire game. I still don't know what the hell that's about.

Chrom is one of the leading characters in Awakening alongside Robin due to wielding Falchion, being the acting ruler of his country after the 1st 3rd of the game, and more then half the story focuses on him becoming a leader in some way, shape, or form. Robin is Chrom's sidekick, not the other way around when you consider their dynamic Robin basically acts as Chrom's retainer.

Overall the only reason the blue haired Awakening characters really exist as fighters is because they're very easy to design for due to being somewhat altered versions of other Fire Emblem characters as they have little to stand out from standard sword lords, they're basically just filler/echo fighters. Robin is the real Awakening rep overall from a design/roster "slot" perspective because they actually had to design mechanics for Robin, while Chrom/Lucina are basically just balanced sword versions of Roy/Marth with a random bit of Ike.

Tharja and Tiki aren't really relevant to Awakening's overall plot they're just popular because waifu, and Robin is a mage he just so happens to be able to use a sword to reference his unique class. If you wanted a magic only lord your only option is Miciaiah as magic users usually don't get a ton of relevance in Fire Emblem games unless they're antagonists like Arvis or the traditional evil dark mage. I guess Leo from Fates is a thing, but I don't think Sakurai can make a moveset for a cavalier unless we're going to Yoshi jump off horses to recover.

I knew an other FE character was going to be in and admittingly, they look fun to play as. I already got the characters I wanted so I don't care although porky for smash would be great. I want to play as that annoying shit nugget damn it.

I just don’t understand why Fire Emblem can have 8 characters but Zelda only has 4 and Donkey Kong only has 3.

Because there are 17 (+spinoffs) Fire Emblem games each with like ~35 characters each - there's a huge well to draw from. Each game frequently features multiple protagonists - sometimes 4+ per game.

Legend of Zelda - the only "real" characters are Link, Zelda, and Gannon and this game already has 3 Links, 2 Zeldas, and 1 Gannon - not sure who you could include there as a major character. Who would you put in from Donkey Kong that would be drastically different from Donkey Kong? Cranky Kong?

DK and Zelda are much bigger series in America - but they don't necessarily have the same character pool to draw from as FE.

Metroid: 3 Samuses (yes Dark Samus counts as Samus)
Then Lucina counts as Marth.

I'll be dead before I recognize heroes as a mainline numbered release.

I think Dixie would be different enough from Diddy. Helicopter hair, hair spin attack, bubblegum gun, bubblegum on the ground instead of banana peels, etc.
For Zelda, we can use Tetra, maybe Agahnim or Ghirahim, Yuga, Wolf Link and Midna, or even just a Moblin (after Piranha Plant, we can use more standard enemies).

Dixie was planned to be a character in Brawl teamed up with Diddy like the Ice Climbers. Toon Zelda was also planned, presumably meaning Tetra.

Pokemon, nigga. Game Freak already has high quality models for all ten billion of them, and I'm sure you could pull some easy ones out of your ass like a Minun + Plusle combo by duct taping two Pichus together and giving them Ice Climbers' duo coding or whatever goes into that. Or like just take Incineroar's animations and movesets and slap them onto Super Macho Man and boom, there you go, a new character. I know Pokemon is its own company and there's probably some red tape that goes into getting its characters in Smash, but surely they've got enough animations and moves they could tweak around a little to get more representation from other franchises they fully own.

You know, I'm really surprised they didn't use the echo fighter feature more often. I figured we'd see cheap DLC over time with B-tier characters like those as echo fighters, but I guess not?

How about Loki with her gigantic cans

Minun and Plusle were yet another character scrapped in Brawl

Just because you could doesn't mean you should though.

You could put Dixie in and just have her be a copy of Diddy, but why? Unless it's a drastic change just make her an Echo and be done with it. One of the things they look for in Smash is trying to bring new playstyles - even if Blyeth is boring from a crossover perspective they are at least capable of using a lance/axe/bow and doing different things than the other FE cast members.

Would Wolf Link bring anything drastically new to the table that would justify a 4th Link in the lineup? Or a 3rd Zelda?

For Zelda, choices include:
Wolf Link + Midna
Ghirahim
Skull Kid
Tetra
Etc.
For Donkey Kong, I can think of Dixie Kong and at least some of the others

Yeah, I was certain Byleth would be in, but I was expecting them as character 1 on pass 2.
Same. I personally would have swapped the order around so Terry or Banjo would have been the last one revealed. Ending with Byleth after that hype train is just jarring.

Twitter at this point has calmed down (to an extent) and they're starting to look more rationally at it all. The best thing I've just been saying is that since they announced the second pass prior I don't feel anything past apathy for Byleth since I know more will come down the path.

It'll be nice to have another nice looking stage to play on mixed with the game's OST though.
