r/childfree - Where child-haters congregate

As a zoomer, I can't understand why many people of my generation hate kiddies. Crotch fruit, demon's spawns, useless things they call to the future.

Minor powerlevel, I want children of my own in the future, the only thing stopping this is that Alzheimer runs on my family and I don't want my children to suffer such horrible illness. Maybe I don't have that genes, but who knows.
I member one time when I asked ma if she regrets having me and my sister, she told me that no luxury in the world can't replace what experiences she had with us. If she haven't got any kiddies, she would be depressed because no lil daughter could cook nice meals for her and no big daughter would advise her on how to dress and do make_up better. My pa couldn't talk to her lil daughter about politics and theatre and bantering with big sis. No travel to exotic places can't replace what kiddies do to you.

In other words, the child haters on reddit don't truly know how kiddies act, of course they are "obnoxious" as they say, but kiddies are curious about a new world they got into, a toddler would sleep on their house and wake up on a restaurant, of course they would be roaming around, they are in a new environment after all.

Zoomer = born 1997-2017?

Some of you guys are barely out of diapers, yourselves .... others still have collections of barbies and hot wheels scattered all over the floor.

Child haters, already?

Most kids and teenagers don't like little kids, that's normal

If you yourself are a kid though, it's not about disliking "kids", it's about disliking your own peer group. Which is completely developmentally normal.

Adults who are like "nO cHiLdrEN in mUh pUbliC SpacES" are nuts. No one expects you to have them, and there are adult only spaces where kids should not be. Kids should also be taught to behave appropriately in public. But they also are allowed out of the house. Going on in public is kind of how small people learn what is expected of them as big people.

Also, this afternoon's showing of Frozen 2 turns out to be "over 18s only" so I can't take my little girls and I'm salty.

are there really enough 18+ year olds who tardrage about kids and want to watch frozen 2 for that showing

what the hell
There are great deal of adult disney fans so there might easily be enough adults that would prefer to watch an animated movie without fear of kids being noisy or otherwise destructive. I don't think it's about hating kids just wanting to avoid unpleasant movie experience.

It's fucking incredible how some people can get triggered by a child. I mean I understand that a crying child in a bus full of people, or a kid running laps around a restaurant can get on your nerves quite easily, but to go to the internet and start making up stories about "croch droppings" misbehaving and fantacising about hurting said children is a bit insane.
I have always wanted children myself, but being an evolutionary dead end, that is not a thing that is happening. What increases my salt about things is that I have a few friends who claim they hate children and never want anything to do with them. These healthy people are considering sterilizing themselves and they are barely out of their teens. Life is goddamn unfair sometimes.

Wait what? You have to be on the damn spectrum to demand a +18 showing of a bloody Disney flick.

Kids are awesome. Little gross yes, but there’s some joy in the thought of having your own children, teaching them what you learned and having them experience all the awesome experiences you had. Gives you purpose in life too.

Bet you half of these people are just in denial and pretending they’re not bitter about not finding a good man or woman.

When I was younger I didn't want kids either. I think part of it is learning to not be so selfish. Being married really helps you there.

Which is fair enough, but could it not be a later showing as a compromise? It being the 3pm showing was kind of a dick move tbh. I'm not taking any kid out to the cinema at 7 or 8pm at night, that would be more convenient for the adults too surely.

Look I'm basically salty because my infants chewed the ears off me because they wanted "to see Eeeeellllsaaaaa" and I couldn't take them. I'm a bad person and I prefer a quiet life.

↖↖↖↖↖disgusted. I am envisioning your kids perplexed, hurt and holding back tears as they are not allowed in their own space. "Why am I not wanted here?"

It is the same shitty feeling, to be displaced by adults on swings, and adult trick or treaters. Plus a note of rejection.

Is there an over 18 version of the film? There might be reason for the age limit. Otherwise you can make something up, like "that's the grown-up version, where they beat up Queen Elsa and it is too disgusting for awesome kids like you."

Anyway, OT ... Mumsnet is down the hall, to the left. 🤣

Yeah I know. But I really hope good people do change their minds, otherwise this world will be full of idiots and scum before long.
The world already is full of idiots and scum. A decent person who chooses not to have children can still be a tremendous example and role model, for the children who do come into this world.

Actually as far as these child haters go, we should support them 100% in their desire not to breed. All they would do is perpetuate misery.

It does seem like a lot of college educated people are choosing not to have kids.

There’s two types of this.
1) is anxiety over an uncertain world and of not being able to provide for a child. This could be fixed with better policies, like subsidized daycare. Now, you’ll never get back to 6+ kids per woman, but you can get childless college educated women to have 1, and women who have 2 to have 3.
2) is the I want to party and have no responsibilities type. Possibly involving weird sexual behavior. Definitely involving a love of overconsumption. You don’t want these people having kids.

edit: Libertarian types will say: Subsidized daycare? Why should I pay for other people to have kids? But you already are. The poorest women will have lots of kids no matter what. They’ll leave them with their meth addict cousin while they go to work, if they work. If their kids get taken away you’ll be paying for foster care and if they don’t the odds are good you’ll be paying for jail. It’s good to encourage middle class people to have kids. Of course a lot of libertarians are also childfree because they can’t imagine helping someone else with no monetary reward.

Actually birth rates are down across all social strata.

Having tons of kids makes life even harder if you are poor. We tend to think that they have welfare incentives to produce more, but it doesn't seem to be that way any more. It seems like poor women are at least limiting their family size, on average, even if more are born into poverty, than wealth.

It is good that people want to avoid bringing a kid into the world if they don't think they're capable of giving it a good life, that's just being responsible with your choices. The problem comes when they act holier than thou about it and shit on kids for acting like kids.

Bit of an overstatement to relate selfishness with not wanting kids.

Honestly the least selfish thing many could do would be to resist from spreading their genetics

There are many reasons for not wanting children, or for not producing them. And most people who forego child-bearing do it for ethical reasons.

Not that I think having an on-line temper tantrum about a crying baby at a pizza joint is appropriate. But at least the child-haters are honest.
