I know this is heavily autistic of me, but I think TV Tropes might have an answer:Yeah, that and combined with the horror of nature that is the tarantula hawk (which I think Sam even said in one of his streams was his basis for Kivouachian reproduction):

(Damn nature, you scary!)
These little freakshows literally mate (and some of them even look) like insects. So I don't know why he's comparing them to mammals at all.

Non-Mammal Mammaries - TV Tropes
Look closely at a female reptile, a female amphibian, a female bird, a female fish, a female insect, or most mammals that aren't human or primate. You'll doubtless notice the lack of a particular characteristic that is common to female humans.

If he just used this excuse, instead of saying his OCs are outright mammals, it would make more sense. Every time Fennah tries to explain something about the universe his OCs live in, the less sense it makes (which is funny, because as an atheist science man, he should know how to make a new species that is coherent with modern understanding of biology. He goes on and on about the importance of science, but doesn’t even know how to make OCs that are scientifically consistent in their existence).
One more message for Fennah:
JUST CALL IT ARTISTIC LICENSE YOU HACK!!!! THAT’S THE ONLY WAY YOUR HOT TOPIC KNOCKOFFS MAKE SENSE!!!!!
