I read all three books forward and backwards, and either I'm too used to how TTRPG supplements read or the editor did an amazing job of removing any of Jake's particular voice and mannerisms from the writing.

I think I'll try again in a week or so, but if I have to read anything more about Taldor I'm gonna puke.

The don't close accounts for declined payments, they block a subscriber's access to the paid content as soon as the payment fails to go through. The user will still be listed as a subscriber and Patreon will try charging the payment method at least one more time, and then whenever the method or the subscription is updated, for each declined monthly payment. E.g. if a piggy lapses for a year, then comes back and updates his subscription to a working payment method without cancelling it first, he'll get hit with a year's worth of charges.

He doesn't even grasp the enormity of the fact that even trans people are "taking up pitchforks" against him. Usually in far-fringe extreme communities like the ones he tries to slide into, there's a sort of "shared delusion" effect going on - everyone comes to tolerate, or even believe in, everyone else's idiosyncrasies because that's the only way a community will congeal out of these disparate parts. For example, among conspiracy theorists, the Lizard People guy will often start believing in chemtrails too, or the flat-earth guy will become a sovereign citizen, or whatever. In the sphere of, let's call them "gender nonconformists", they'll uncritically accept things like headmates, invented genders, fanciful intepretations of "PTSD", the secret gay history of the world, and so on. Past a certain point, believing one weird thing makes you more likely to believe any weird thing.

I think he does believe Zoe and the rest of CON will someday come back to him. I think he also believes that there is a whisper campaign against him. No doubt he is aware of the real reason no one likes him, but he doesn’t believe it or want to believe it. I think he knows that he embellishes and exaggerates "a little" for dramatic effect, justified because he's fighting the good fight. Repeating the same shit for years also means that he's been embellishing his embellishments, his tall tales getting taller with every retelling. He might not 100% believe what he's saying right now, he might believe 80% of it, but that probably holds true for when he told a less severe version of that same thing 6 months ago, or an even less severe version a year ago, or two years, three years. We've all seen how his stories grow in scope and severity so when he needs to exaggerate the story yet again he accidentally buys into the previous version, again. He probably think he's great writer and a firebrand but I don't think he understands that he's actually recursively feeding himself lies and going crazy in the process.
