Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

If anyone's pathologically obsessed, it's the people who keep caterwauling about A&H being a wretched hive of scum and villainy den of skinheaded neon yahtzees when it's mostly comprised of people somewhere near the center with the odd outlier, and how it's about making a home here A&H needs to be shut down or heavily moderated elsewise the mystical Elder Kiwis are going to return to their home planet or some shit.



The reason all of this shit is happening in the first place is due to the people who hate A&H for whatever ridiculous reason. The forum is already moderated now, and it's no longer visible unless you're logged in.

It was already fucking exceptional to suggest that A&H is the reason (apparently literally) all of the /pol/ spergs come to the farms, but it's even more ridiculous to do so now. It's as if everyone's forgetting that explicitly political, left-wing lolcows and groups on this site exist that would draw them in on their own.

I won't say it's all the reason, I just think that it attracts a good bit of the shit in a way that pisses a good chunk of the community off. I don't think deleting A and H or anything is the solution, but I feel like the board should have a bit more oversight. Again, I'm new here, it might just be me putting my nose where it doesn't belong, but I feel it wise to contribute my two cents, so here I am.

I genuinely do not see a difference between the quality of posts here, or the posts in the rest of the site. If Josh is losing entire swathes of moderators, then it speaks volumes about the quality of person he's charging with the task of cleaning house.

If Null noticed that the news board swings further to the right than the rest of the board, then there's a reason for that, that goes beyond it just being full of sexist transphobic bigotoids. The most immediate reason that comes to mind is the fact that the majority of American Newsmedia is left-of-center, and even Fox News isn't a shining beacon of hope for the Right Wing, because it is designed to appeal to der Boomerwaffen. Most of the articles I see get posted are making fun of the news. If that isn't perfectly aligned with the spirit of Kiwifarms, I don't know what is, and you cannot realistically expect people to turn off that mode for one single board on the site.

Yeah, sure, I see phrase-length shitposts, and I agree that shit doesn't belong here, but if you guys take a fucking step back and look at the board, it's really just a lolcow thread on the news itself, and its eternal generation of 30-second-span outrage. Some of this shit may be serious business, but fuck's sake, stop taking it so damn seriously. I don't see ANY of this criticism levelled at Deep Thoughts, which currently has Race and IQ being the top thread at the time of writing.

This site has gone through videos of beastiality, people committing suicide, people shooting up schools and grocery stores, and all manner of generally horrifying stuff, but somehow, making jokes about niggos, the chosen people, or whatever other race happens to speed by, is taking it too far? 1-800-COME-ON-NOW.

I think the reason a few people here are freaked out is because there really is nothing A&H posters can do to stop A&H from leaking, so it seems like a forgone conclusion that the board will eventually be deleted.

Stop arguing about race and jews in on-topic boards or I will start quarantining people and, potentially, shutter the politics board.

The warning sticky post is an escalation for an issue we have no control over. There is nothing I can do to stop SS Reichsmarshall from making an account, uploading a swastika avatar, and spreading the truth of global jewish supremacy (which is a legitimate worldview) in lolcow threads that have nothing to do with judaism.

Even though the the problem will persist, I think Null did the right thing to just make a permanent banner telling people not spread pol ideology outside A&H. I think it's inevitable that the ban-hammer will be coming down on idiots that sperg about jews and race in on topic boards, but I don't think anyone has a problem with that. I'm interested in what quarantining would look like.

the old guard were not bad people, but they would've rathered had kiwi farms remain a niche, isolated community. Null would rather have the site grow.

it just came down to a conflict of philosophies, and A&H was a big part of that since it does attract a lot of new users. That much was obvious when the registrations surged a surprising amount when A&H was closed off from public view. the migrants must be integrated into our vibrant, diverse society

I'm genuinely serious. In my memory, which is completely fallible, I don't really see many good 'funny' racist jokes. I don't find 'despite making up 13 percent of the population' and dry 'nigger this and nigger that' funny. I just don't. There are other jokes I find funny, but I don't think that really has any effect on the genuineness of my argument.

There's a lot to be said for this. Compare, for example, A&H, and the 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' Community Watch thread.

If you just banned the top 20 posters in that thread, you'd solve most of what problems actually exist with A&H (a board which doesn't even host that thread).

My point throughout this thread has been that the tools to keep from seeing a person whom you don't like the content from is available to everyone equally. Having a mod do it for you (the collective "you", to avoid confusion) isn't necessary.

I don't post because I'm not very confident in my ability to contribute content. I've posted in a few A and H threads, and I rate plenty of comments (mainly because I don't really religiously read on the farms, I tend to see what's new and read whatever interests me) and rate from there. Just because you and I have never met does not mean that I am being disingenuous. What it tells me is that you don't respect my opinion because I don't satisfy your requirements for being 'eligible for the discussion'. You're more than welcome to that opinion, but I would encourage you to practice the same genuineness you expect from me and say it openly.
